THE INTRODUCTION OF EACH PART

INTRODUCTION In the 20th century, the industry declined and housing deteriorated further into slums amongst the derelict factories. But 21st century Great Ancoats Street is rising again, with many of the great mills converted into apartments and offices. Ancoats was analyzed and planned in Studio A in an effort to energize the entire Ancoats community. In Studio B+C, I deepened A planned marketing project based on Studio A's design. This makes the project a complex of local markets, dining and entertainment. It is hoped that the complex will become an activation point where Ancoats will be revitalized.

LOCATION LOCATION Ancoats is an area of Manchester in North West England, next to the Northern Quarter, the northern part of Manchester city centre.
4
5
HISTORY Historically in Lancashire, Ancoats became a cradle of the Industrial Revolution and has been called "the world's first industrial suburb". For many years, from the late 18th century onwards, Ancoats was a thriving industrial district. The area suffered accelerating economic decline from the 1930s.

9
SURROUNDINGS Ancoats is surrounded mainly by industrial, residential, and commercial districts.
10
11
FACILITIES Study the surrounding facilities to analyze the functions that may need to be supplemented within the site. Public transportation in remote areas is analyzed to see if it is convenient for people in remote areas and other cities.
12
13
TRANSPORTATION The transportation is convenient.
14
15
CURRENT LANDUSE The building along the street in the southwest of Ancoats is mainly a combination of shops and residences. The buildings in the middle are mainly residential and further northeast are some offices and warehouses.
16
17
BUILDING QUALITY The quality of the building is an important criterion when we consider whether to renovate or dismantle the building in Studio A.

NEW TRAFFIC SYSTEM
23
PROJECT LIST
25
NEW TRAFFIC SYSTEM The planned Ancoats is an area completely free of motor vehicles. In this way, pedestrians and bicycles can walk and travel safely and freely in it. We set up a major commercial pedestrian street through north and south and extends to the city center. It is hoped that the main pedestrian street will bring downtown people to Ancoats. For the convenience of motorists, two indoor parking has been set up.
22
23
PROJECT LIST This is Ancoats after the redesign. These projects were arranged in combination with various factors and requirements in the original site conditions.

STUDIO B+C SITE ANALYSIS OF PROJECT "TRADITIONAL MARKET"
26
Based on Studio A's planning, this part analyzes demands of surrounding people and cities for the market.
27
SURROUNDING TRADITIONAL MARKETS There are few traditional markets in Manchester, and they are far from the city centre. Therefore, if a traditional market is built here, it can not only provide shopping and dining demands for surrounding citizens, but also allow Manchester residents to have venues for sales and shopping.

On weekends, booths can be set up on the road to form temporary markets. 50
T ENTRANCE
51
FOOD COURT Half of the second floor has almost no roof covering, so people can enjoy the sunshine on the second floor in good weather. The ground floor is relatively closed. The main entrance is a glassenclosed space. Such a design can help the space on the ground floor shield from the wind and rain without affecting the sun's entry.

MARKET The southernmost market is a closed market, which sells products that are afraid of light and wet, such as spices, sausages, cheese, etc.
56
57
GREEN SPACE There is a small landscape green space between the two markets, where people can stop and rest. It can also form an opposite relationship with the opposite building.
58
59
FOOD MARKET The market here is completely open, mainly selling fruits and vegetables. Because of the lack of walls, merchants generally don't store much, which makes it always possible to buy the freshest fruits and vegetables. Secondly, the construction cost is relatively low. Lower venue rents have reduced people's selling costs. This provides employment opportunities for the people in financial need.

FISH MARKET Live fish is rarely sold in Manchester, so I wanted to create a fish market where frozen seafood and live fish could be sold together. Frozen seafood is sold on the side surrounded by solid walls because it needs low temperature and is afraid of strong light exposure. A fishy smell can be created by slaughtering live fish, so a closed operation room connected to the roof has been set up. The odor can be eliminated through the skylight on the roof. The water supply and drainage system can also be placed in the operation room.

MINI FARM As there is a community center and a primary school nearby, I hope this place can not only increase the greening of the project, but also play an educational role for children. Children who grow up in the city have little chance to see how daily food is grown, and it can provide a place for general education.

YARD North Yard
On one side of the north yard are the flower shop and the cooking classroom. Anther side is the bathroom and the administrative staff's office. There are some flower beds in front of the shop to create a garden atmosphere. Cooking classroom usually can sell some kitchen supplies. On weekends it can be a place for culinary exchange. South Yard
The southern yard is surrounded by restaurants and has a stage where people can play. So it's a great place for parties and dinners
