The design itself eliminates the furnitutres so that in a circular building it is easy to access and the area is so spacious. The reading area and the stack area are designed in a similar manner creating a niche’ in the circular wall. It also facilitates a gallery seating area on one side. Bamboo supports provided along the inner circumference of the wall act as a reinforcement and truss connection these poles form the framework of the roof. The roof made up of THATCH supported by bamboo truss work.

BAMBOO WORKSHOP

RESEARCH PROJECT AUROVILLE BAMBOO CENTRE

Project Type : Internship I| Bmaboo day Year : 2019 Location : Auroville | Tamilnadu | India Bamboo splits have been replaced as reinforcement and placed it as a 1m*1m and spacing of 10cm with use of steel wires it has been tied in every joints.

Every end of the slab we have given a wooden slab for the concerte to rest on when they pour them on it and bricks have placed to support the wooden planks.

Nature’s material bamboo has been widely used for maany purposes.Mainly as a strength bearing material. it is used for building shelters from an earlier time. we have used bamboo as reinforcement, bamboo shows all essential properties to withstand the load . the main requirement in reinforcement is the tensile strenth which is appreciable in bamboo from its orgin gives this property.Bamboo is by its orgin an orthotropic material. It gains high strength along the fibers and low strength in the transverse direction. AUROVILLE BAMBOO CENTRE | RESEARCH PROJECT

Concrete is poured into t pared and inbetween the a opening so that the vie bamboo splits which is re men

the cast which is pree slab we have created ewers can see thats a eplaced as reinforcent.

Bamboo splits X Reinforcement rod

After the concrete is fully poured in the cast it has been rested and soaked in for 24 hrs to dry and then the cast is removed.

Then the slab is converted into a seating in the pavillion which is polished and waxed and even the 4 people sat on slab for the strength check and it was fine and used as seating area at the pavillion.

we have chosen bamboo splits as the reinforcement, which acts as the steel rod and we have done frame work with splits of 1m*1m and the spacing of 10cm each and they are tied using 6mm steel wire and then we have to soak it for 24 hours in which the water absorbs and do not allow to extracts from the concrete and bambusa vulgaris hard ,bvs are the ones which abssorbed less water. the rate of water absorbtion can also be reduced by certain treatment. The casting is done using the concerte which is in the ratio of 3:2:1.

SLICED GEODESIC DOME AUROVILLE BAMBOO CENTRE

Project Type : Internship I| Bamboo day year : 2019 Location : Auroville | Tamilnadu | India The pinth was ceated byRamming to make the stage area. Layers of bricks were arranged and infill of mud to create a stable plinth.Foundation of the stage was then made using PVC pipes filled with cement which is cost effective and easy solution. The dome is similar to the geodesic dome but the front side was sliced to make it a stage area. The joinery for dome was fixed using nut and bolt joints. The structure is temporary area for the cultural events of bamboo day.

Each face is an identical equilateral (all sides are equal) triangle. Rotate the edges of those triangles slowly toward an imaginary center and eventually you wind up with a rough version of a sphere, called a geodesic sphere. Cut that sphere in half and you have an approximation of a geodesic dome. The geometry of geodesic allowed stability even it was half built dome

AUROVILLE BAMBOO CENTRE | SLICED GEODESDIC DOME

Joinery with bolt and nut

Rammed stage area with bricks

These bamboo supports came from the pvc pipe which is poured with concrete

Every bamboo have been cut on the edges for the joinery purposes.

This dome was made for the Bamboo day stage where a fiber cloth was used as a shading element to cover the direct sun lighr.A dome encloses the largest volume of interior space with the least amount of surface area, thus saving on materials and cost. Additionally, a dome’s structure is one of the most efficient interior spaces because air and energy circulate without obstruction.

TREE HOUSE AUROVILLE BAMBOO CENTRE

Project Type : Internship I | Bamboo day year : 2019 Location : Auroville | Tamilnadu | India

Flooring done by splits

AUROVILLE BAMBOO CENTRE | TREE HOUSE

The tree house has been renovated for the bamboo day the tree house was in a complete diaster with the flooring, roofing and the railings and even steps where falling apart Mostly splits are used for flooring with base supports of full round bamboos. For roofing support system of bamboo is created to take the load of different layers of roofing. Railing panels are designed with nailing splits in patterns to complete the complete look of the flooring and the railings where nailed in a pattern and a sunken seating area is created with proper design for a spacious seating and chilling .

Thatch with bamboo purlins

Railings done using bamboo splits

ROOF Roof is made of simple thatch with bamboo pulins ,You should never use a flat roof for a treehouse. A properly sloped (or ‘pitched’) roof is much superior. Aim for a slope of at least 30°, but preferably 45° or more. If you get particularly harsh winters, a steep pitch is critical to avoid a build-up of snow which could easily spell disaster for a treehouse of limited support

FLOORING We were renovating the tree house for the Bamboo day ,we were doung the flooring, roof, railings and ,we done flooring using the splits and as well as the railing also done using the splits and the tea area were done using the normal mud and for the seating we used the concrete bed

FLOORING The sunken courtyard is conceived as another room where the amalgamation of external and internal space creates a unique room atmosphere. There was a place beneath the tree house so we thought of doing a sunken seating area for the tea break inBamboo centre we left the area where the foundation of the tree house and started to dug a .60m around the foundation.
