ISLAMIC CULTURAL CENTRE

(5th Semester studio work)

Located in the outskirts of the city of Roorkee, Uttarakhand, this cultural centre is designed on a site which has a majority of muslim population in the vicinity of the site. The main objective of this project to express the elements of the local heritage through the arts. This entire campus is specially made taking in thought the accessibility of the differentlyabled persons.

Site is located near a Masjid in a muslim locality on the outskirts of the city of Roorkee. The main road has high level of traffic. The surrounding buildings are of the Islamic architectural style. Many evergreen trees are present on the site.

7 Keeping the site context into consideration Islamic architectural elements are needed to be involved into the design.

Taking the traffic into consideration the entries to the site had to be provided such that there is less traffic jams.

FITTING THE DESIGN INTO THE SITE CONTEXT

One of the major challenges in this project was to make the design such that it was acceptable to the local masses as well as be highly functional and well equipped. In order to achieve this, traditional Islamic elements are exposed on the facades of certain buildings. The landscape also makes its share of contribution by providing the classical axis in the centre. All the buildings are universally accessible thus allowing the differently abled people to commute seamlessly.

PARIVAAR – A CARE GIVING CENTRE

(6th Semester studio work)

‘Parivaar’ is a very unique centre with a distinct character in itself. In simple terms, it is a perfect fusion of an old age home and an orphanage for children. Both of these age groups enjoy and stay happy and prosper in a homely and family like environment. This facility aims to accommodate both the groups in such a way that they help each other learn, grow, and ascertain the well-being of each other.

INDIAN ANTARCTIC RESEARCH STATION (7th Semester studio work)

Focusing majorly on the harsh and unforgiving climatic conditions, the research station is designed in such a way that it does not disturb the surroundings but at the same time it accommodates the researchers and provide them a very specific minimal space for their work to go on without tiring them. Specific viewing pockets are provided to appreciate the natural beauty.

D 3D RENDERING AND WALKTHROUGH OF THE STUPA AT SANCHI

The Great Stupa at Sanchi is the oldest stone structure in India and was originally commissioned by the emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE and is located at Sanchi town in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1989, it is counted among the best conserved ancient Stupas of central India. We made a 3d model of some parts of the site and produced a walkthrough of the same. Working on this project was a thing of honour for me as this is a part of heritage of my country.
