Centuries ago, humans were struggling to survive, so they asked the eight deities for help. In response, each deity stored a piece of their powers in a small stone. These eight stones together formed The Maloria. It was supposed to help the humans with their survival, however, the powers of The Maloria corrupted them. They started to misuse The Maloria, believing that it would make them deities as well. The deities tried to stop them, and a battle ensued. In fear of the deities’ wrath, the humans broke off the eight stones and hid them across the land. This only infuriated the deities. They forced the humans to live in closed off communities. They couldn’t trust the humans in their lands anymore. They searched far and wide for their stones, but could only ever find one… Over the years, and a prophecy is created: the chosen one will restore The Maloria and thus calm down the deities. The only problem is that this chosen hero never shows up. A thousand years pass. No longer patient, teenaged girl May decides to enter the forbidden lands and restore The Maloria herself. Along the way, she meets Sachi, a young whisp, and together they travel along the different domes, in search of the missing stones.
May
Main character No problem or foe could ever be too great for her! At least…she seems to think so. May is an everyday 17-year-old. She is headstrong, witty, and sometimes a know-it-all. She also has a sweet and caring side, usually reserved for the people she’s close to. At times, her overconfidence can lead her into problems, but luckily for her she’s smart enough to save herself when in danger. She longs to see The Outside, and she’s incredibly interested in the mystery that surrounds The Maloria and the deities. She is very studious and curious towards the world around her.
Sachi
main character Sachi is the loveable, quirky companion of May. Sachi is incredibly playful and can often become distracted by small things. She is only a child after all. She is a sly trickster, who is never afraid of those bigger than her. She perceives the world with childlike wonder, and is quickly impressed. She’s a whisp, a creature similar to will ‘o whisps. They feel the urge to guide people who are lost to the right path. This is also how she meets May. All whisps have a human and an animal form. Which animal differs for each whisp. Although she has no interest in finding The Maloria stones, she wants to help May. May has promised her that when The Maloria is restored, Sachi can come live with her in her dome. This is somethings that Sachi longs for; to live among humans.
The Deities The Deities are the eight spiritual leaders of the world. They all have their own element. Although they are not immortal, they can become extremely old. When a deity dies, a new one is immediately born. A big event always occurs whenever a deity dies. This is because the deities are connected to the earth. When a deity dies, the earth feels this, and a disturbance arises. The nature of the event decides what element the new deity will be connected to.
The world Environments
The world consists of domes, separated from each other. These domes are all surrounded by nature. Humans are not allowed to enter these lands. To humans, the forbidden lands outside their domes is referred to as “The Outside”. It is completely unknown to the humans what lays within The Outside, as nobody who has ever entered The Outside has ever returned to their dome. Without the interference of humans, nature has boomed within The Outside. There are a variety of different landscapes, with different flora and fauna. The domes are adapted to the climate and geography of the nature around them. Every dome also uses the elemental powers they have to their advantage, which is reflected in their buildings, clothing, etc. The people living within the different domes all have powers belonging to a specific deity respectively. here’s also a difference in technolgy between most domes.
Creatures The world contains fantasy creatures, mostly based on real-life animals. The creatures are adapted to their surroundings. A good rule of dumb is to think of a real-life animal, exarate its features and add elemental details/ powers. In general, the creatures cannot talk and behave like normal animals. There are rare exceptions to this rule, like whisps. There are also some giant creatures that roam The Outside, but these are very rare.
The Maloria The Maloria consists of eight identical stones that can be connected to their casing. Each stone contains a part of the deities’ power, and thus a piece of their souls. Therefore, the deities feel a connection with their stones and explains why they long for the stones to return to them. If someone tries to destroy the stones, the deities will feel pain. Maloria stones have strange side effects to those who carry them. The stones often whisper strange things only audible to the carrier. The carrier can also use the powers of the stones, even though this always has an effect on the carrier’s body. Some stones also clash with each other, and thus should never be too close together. If clashing stones touch each other, they admit a highpitched sound. Every Maloria stone clashes with the one opposite to it in their casing. When the ancestors misused the stones, the stones became partly corrupted
Season one story arc Season one will mostly be the introduction of the series. May is mostly learning about the world, The Maloria and the deities. Half-way through the season, she will obtain her first stone. This gives her a confidence boost, making her overconfident. She tries to infiltrate the deity headquarters, believing she is ready. However, Rayla stops her from obtaining the only stone the deities have. May gets injured and needs to escape. For her, this is a wakeup call.
Springboards 1. May has decided to leave her dome and heads out to find the missing Maloria Stones. Not knowing where to go, May contemplates her decision in the pouring rain. Just when she wants to head back home, she hears a mysterious voice. The creature reveals itself to be Sachi, a cat-like creature, who tells her she can help her find the stones in exchange for a deal. 2. May and Sachi arrive at the water dome, where the people are incredibly interested in her. They never had any outsiders enter their dome and they tell May that their dome is guarded by a mysterious wolf spirit, who keeps the water they rely on clean. Lately, the spirit has been seen less and less, after which a giant creature appeared and started destroying their farmland. While investigating the creature, May has a run in with the wolf spirit, who turns out to be none other than the water deity, Fenor.
Season two and beyond The second season and the seasons beyond focus more on May’s personal growth. She becomes more mature and deals with her feeling of insecurity. Along the way, she obtains more stones. She learns to use her powers more effectively and becomes fully at home in The Outside. In the last season, she manages to complete The Maloria. She gains the trust of most deities, who make the part of their soul within the stones return to them. All is not well however, as the corruption of the stones also enters the deities’ souls. The corrupted deities wreak havoc among the humans of the world. The humans, tired of the deities’ tyranny, fight back. A huge battle ensues. Not wanting history to repeat itself, May has to face off against each deity one by one, using her newfound skills. After she frees a deity of their corruption, the deity in question will help her free the others. In the end, all the deities are freed of their corruption. May calms the tension between the deities and the humans. An agreement is formed between the two groups. The humans are allowed to start living in The Outside once again, with respect for the earth and the deities’ powers. As promised, Sachi starts living with May, who continues her research of the world.
What makes it unique? Hero not Found uses the well-known cliché of a destined hero and flips it completely on its head! We live in a world in which we can connect with others in a matter of seconds. Although this is amazing, there are also dangers. On social media, great things get shown, yet the road towards these achievements does not. The bar is set so high, that it appears unachievable. Added to this is the fact that most shows and movies are about someone who is destined from birth to achieve great things. When will there be a story about the average Joe, who simply works hard every day? Hero not Found will inspire those who feel like they are always in the middle. Never the most talented, never the most athletic, and never the smartest. Those who feel completely unseen. Those who simply feel that they were not born with something to make them standout. May will show them that they can make themselves standout, and that they do not need something rare or unique to be seen.
