Area students represent Pea River Electric on Montgomery Youth Tour

March 14-16, nine high school juniors from area schools represented Pea River Electric on the annual Montgomery Youth Tour. This tour is sponsored each year by the Electric Cooperatives of Alabama and the Alabama Rural Electric Association to educate students on electric cooperatives, cooperative ideas and various aspects of state government.

Students made visits to the state capitol building, the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Church and the State Archives and History building. They also had an opportunity to meet with and ask questions of their local legislators during a visit to the Alabama State House.

When the students weren’t touring they participated in a variety of leadership and team-building activities and heard from motivational speakers. The group also had time to make new friends with other students from across the state of Alabama, representing the 19 electric co-ops that participate in the statewide tour.

Following the tour to Montgomery, students have the opportunity to interview to be one of three students selected from Pea River Electric to attend a week-long trip to Washington D.C. in June for the National Rural Electric Youth Tour sponsored by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
