HERE’S TO A STRONG FUTURE TOGETHER!

By Mark Parker CEC President & CEO

After nearly 36 years at Covington Electric Cooperative, I’m honored to assume the role of president and chief executive officer. I’d be remiss, though, if I didn’t acknowledge that Ed Short not only made an indelible impact on CEC, but also that he’s a tough act to follow. I’m thankful for all he’s done to shape the strong cooperative which I now lead.

I’m proud to have played a pivotal role in the growth of the cooperative throughout the past three decades. When I first joined CEC in 1987, members still read their own meters and returned a card with their energy usage so we could calculate their monthly bill. To say a lot has changed since then would be a great understatement.

During my time with the cooperative, I’ve held several positions, including director of member services, vice president of member relations, staff assistant and vice president of information technology and, most recently, senior vice president and chief operating officer.

ply chain issues and the push for more renewable energy resources, I’m eager to lead CEC as we work together to find ways we can be more efficient with our technology and continue to provide the best possible service.

Most importantly, I’m confident in the future of CEC because of the team we have in place right now. I’m privileged to lead the CEC staff. Their abundant knowledge and passion for our members makes my job so much easier.

And while our close-knit team at CEC is like a family to me, I’m indebted to my wife, Teri, and our two children for their constant support. If you see me smiling in 2023, it might be because Teri and I will soon welcome our fourth grandchild.

Outside of CEC, I’m an active member in the Andalusia Kiwanis Club, Kiwanis Covington County Fair Board and Andalusia Chamber of Commerce. Much like how CEC serves our area, I’m committed to offering my talents to community organizations as well.

I’ve been heavily involved in the implementation of several new technologies, including the first CEC computer networks, updated billing systems, the prepay program, the dispatch system and the Buzz Broadband project.

Now, it’s time for a new challenge. In light of volatile interest rates, inflation, ongoing sup-

I’m excited about the future, and I plan to do everything I can to earn your trust and respect as CEC works to provide you with reliable electricity and broadband.

I look forward to our future together! 
