The Right of Way Crew is hard at work for you, our members. As you drive down the highway & see these men hard at work, have you pondered to yourself, “Why they are doing what they do & how does it benefit me?” Here are the answers to a few of those questions.
How close to a power line should I plant a tree on my property?
Fifteen feet away from any power lines.
What do I do if I see a downed power line?
Stay away from all downed power lines and call 911 or 256-586-3196.
What should I do if a tree falls on my power line?
If a tree falls on your power line, the first thing you should do is stay away from the area and call Arab Electric immediately. A fallen tree on a power line can be extremely dangerous, and attempting to remove the tree or the power line yourself can put you at risk of electrocution.
When do I need to call the Power Company to look at my trees?
You should call if you notice that your trees are growing within 15 feet of a power line or growing into the line that services a structure. Under no circumstances should you try to clear these limbs away yourself. Call Arab Electric at 256-586-3196 to arrange for the Right of Way Supervisor to come out and look to see if we can cut it for you.
Why do I need to call AEC to look at or trim my trees?
Tree trimming reduces the frequency of power outages caused by downed lines due to trees or limbs falling on lines during storms or inclement weather. Trimming & pruning trees proactively keeps lines clear and power reliable.
Does the Right of Way crew clean up limbs & debris after trimming my tree?
It is the responsibility of the landowner to dispose of all debris or limbs trimmed from their trees.
