loss of power, it sends a signal to our dispatch system, allowing our staff to quickly identify affected meters and dispatch crews to address the issue. And when power is restored, the meters light back up, providing another signal to the cooperative that service has resumed.
AMI also allows for more accurate billing. With traditional meters, your electric cooperative had to rely on monthly meter readings to calculate your usage. With AMI, we have access to daily usage data, which is especially helpful when assisting members with pinpointing potential issues with electric equipment. It also allows us to remotely connect and disconnect meters.
With these meters, members can also use the SmartHub app, which makes it easy for them to stay informed about their energy usage.
While AMI is an incredibly useful tool, it’s important to remember that it is not infallible. The cooperative still recommends members call or text if they experience an outage, just in case the system misses something.
AMI is just one example of how cooperatives take advantage of technology to better serve their members. n
