What Is IFC Preview Day? IFC Preview Day is an opportunity for prospective members to experience fraternity life at The University of Alabama. Men who attend IFC Preview Day will get a firsthand look at each chapter and gain insight about what to expect during 2014 recruitment. Participants will have the opportunity to meet the Alabama Interfraternity Council, chapter recruitment chairmen, active fraternity members, and other men who are planning to participate in recruitment. Prospective members and their parents/guardians check in on Saturday morning. IFC Preview Day begins with a “Welcome presentation led by the UA IFC Executive Council. The Council will discuss topics such as how to prepare for recruitment, what to expect during recruitment, and basic information about fraternity membership. Participants and parents/guardians will then be divided into groups to tour fraternity houses before lunch. After lunch, prospective members will have the opportunity to walk around fraternity row and participate in various activities hosted by the chapters. We encourage men interested in joining a fraternity to be engaged during the recruitment process, be outgoing, take the time to meet men from different chapters and exchange contact information. During this time, parents/guardians will have the opportunity to attend sessions hosted by campus departments, and attend additional informational sessions on the recruitment process.

IFC Preview Day provides prospective members, who are unfamiliar with the fraternity recruitment process, an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the process as well as the obligations of fraternity membership. Although IFC does not require a specific grade point average to participate in recruitment, it is strongly recommended that prospective members have at or above a 2.5 cumulative high school or college GPA.

The attire for IFC Preview Day is casual. Jeans or shorts, t-shirt or collared shirt, and closed-toed shoes are appropriate. It may be cold, so participants may want to consider bringing a jacket or coat. Fall Recruitment Registration

To register, visit www.greekaffairs.ua.edu or www.alabamaifc.com and follow the link to IFC Recruitment. By registering for recruitment your name and information is made available to all the IFC fraternities. Registering for recruitment does not mean you will receive a bid for membership. Remember, recruitment is about getting to know the chapters, and letting the chapters get to know you. It is important that you make an effort to meet as many fraternity men as possible throughout the recruitment process.

UGC & NPHC Fraternities

If you’re interested in joining a culturally-based special interest group, such as a United Greek Council (UGC) fraternity or a traditionally African-American NPHC fraternity, you should contact the chapters directly. Please note however, UGC and NPHC recruitment varies by chapter. All NPHC and UGC fraternities will be participating in Greek Preview Weekend. These councils recruit members through a process called Membership Intake.

What is IFC? The Interfraternity Council (IFC) serves as the governing body of the fraternities at The University of Alabama. There are currently 28 fraternities at the Capstone. For more than 150 years, fraternities have stood for excellence in academics, leadership, athletics, and service. The University of Alabama is known for its strong Greek community and commitment to excllence. The IFC serves its members by sponsoring several enriching programs throughout the year. IFC constantly works with the Panhellenic Association, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and the United Greek Council to further strengthen and support the Greek community’s value and vision.

While each organization’s requirements vary, both councils pride themselves on brotherhood, scholarship, and service. General requirements for Membership Intake include 12-24 UA credit hours, documented community service hours, and a minimum cumulative college GPA requirement ranging from 2.5-2.75. For contact information and additional information about NPHC and UGC fraternities, please visit www.greekaffairs.ua.edu or attend UGC and NPHC specific programming during Preview Weekend.
