America’s Premiere Outdoor Drama April 9, 2022

Dear Friends of The Lost Colony: Welcome to the 4th Annual Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival. Today’s Grand Tasting features over 120 wines, fine food from local chefs at 10 restaurants, and local and regional craft beers. All the wineries, distributors, breweries and restaurants are listed in this program. While you are here, enjoy the musical stylings of Jessica Hudson and ????? in the SoundStage and Joe Mapp & the Coordinates in the Beer Garden. The proceeds from The Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival go directly toward helping to fund the production of The Lost Colony. The Roanoke Island Historical Association, a non-profit historical and educational 501(c)(3) corporation, has produced The Lost Colony since 1937, and has just concluded its 84th Season. This historical production, written by North Carolina’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Playwright Paul Green, is the longest running outdoor symphonic drama in America, and the only one that has received a Tony Honor for Excellence in Theatre. The Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival is fortunate to have great sponsors, generous donors and tremendous volunteers. The donors, sponsors and volunteers are listed in this book. If you see any of them, please thank them for their support of The Lost Colony. We also thank the participating wineries, wine distributors, local and regional breweries and local restaurants for helping us make this festival a premier event on the Outer Banks. Have fun today but please do so responsibly. If you need helping getting home from the event, please look for a Staff Member to help you arrange transportation. Please do not drive after drinking. Thank you again for being part of this special event and supporting The Lost Colony! Sincerely,

Cindy McGann, Festival Committee Chair

ABOUT THE LOST COLONY WINE & CULINARY FESTIVAL, THE ROANOKE ISLAND HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION, AND THE LOST COLONY Welcome to The Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival’s GRAND TASTING on the beautiful and historic grounds of the Waterside Theatre on Roanoke Island, home to The Lost Colony. Produced by the Roanoke Island Historical Association and first staged in 1937, The Lost Colony is the nation’s premier and longest running outdoor symphonic drama. The script was written by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Paul Green to celebrate the 350th anniversary of America’s first English child, Virginia Dare, and to commemorate the first English colony, settled on Roanoke Island in 1587. The production has just concluded its 84th season! The Lost Colony performs from the end of May through late August every summer. One of North Carolina’s most treasured cultural and historical legacies, the production has received a Tony Honor for Excellence in Theatre and continues to educate and entertain generations of patrons each year. Not only is Roanoke Island the site of America’s first English colony and the birthplace of America’s first English child Virginia Dare, it is home to the Mothervine. Hailed as America’s oldest cultivated grapevine, the Mothervine is the only witness remaining to these events. Dated to be more that 400 years old, its myths and history are interwoven with the 1587 colony, Virginia Dare, and the story of American wine. Today, Old World and New World wines will be celebrated on the site where the New World was first explored by Sir Walter Raleigh’s colony. The Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival is a benefit event produced by the Roanoke Island Historical Association, a 501(c)3 non-profit whose mission is to commemorate the history of the first English colonies in North America on Roanoke Island, NC - primarily accomplished by the annual production of its symphonic outdoor drama, The Lost Colony, and through educationally engaging events and programs. All funds raised from The Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival will benefit The Lost Colony production. For more information: www.thelostcolony.org or call (252) 473-2127

The Vintner’s Dinner Opening Event - Friday, September 27th, 2019 Last night, The Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival opened with its Vintner’s Dinner. 84 guests were treated to a unique and special dining experience prepared by six local chefs. The menu was paired perfectly with wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle winery in Washington state. Teri Morgan, Development Manager of Chateau Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, led guests through a one-of-a-kind epicurean adventure beginning with savory appetizers and followed by two incredible entrees and dessert. The Vintner’s Dinner featured a collaboration of some of this area’s most celebrated chefs. Chef Sam McGann, a local and regionally renowned chef and co-owner of The Blue Point in Duck, was joined by The Blue Point’s Pastry Chef Jack Baumer, Johanna Lachine, Chef and owner of Johanna’s Café Lachine in Wanchese, and Chefs and owners Bryan Whitehurst and Mark Newsome of Greentail’s Seafood Market & Kitchen in Nags Head. The event began at 6 PM at 108 Budleigh, a lovely Elizabethan style venue full of antique touches, a brick fireplace, and cathedral ceilings accented by stained-glass windows salvaged from a church in Virginia. 108 Budleigh is located just one block from Manteo’s quaint waterfront. Elegantly dressed tables accented with gold Chiavari ballroom chairs completed the picture-perfect setting. The entrees created from the collaboration of chefs featured local North Carolina fare, focused around fresh catches, shrimp, crab and oysters, as well as local and regional farm-to-table produce. Chateau Ste. Michelle is Washington state’s founding winery. Their award-winning wines interweave with their rich heritage to create an unforgettable wine experience. Their winemaking philosophy is to highlight the style, quality and expression of their Washington state vineyards and respect the varietal characters and individuality of each location, yet still craft each wine to give you a pleasurable, food friendly experience. This commitment to quality has led Chateau Ste. Michelle to earn some of the highest accolades in the industry today. To find about more about this event, see our website at TLCWinefest.com. We hope you join us next year for another gourmet adventure at the 2020 Vintner’s Dinner. Our Gratitude to All that made the Vintner’s Dinner last night, a Night to be Remembered!

And an extra special thank you to Cindy McGann for her expertise and dedication to making this dining experience such an extraordinary and memorable event. And to Allison Martin for facilitating and supporting the event.
