BY SAMANTHA HENDRICKS

In today's dynamic workforce, individuals are constantly seeking new opportunities to enhance their skills and expand their career prospects. One such example is Seth Lovvorn, an employee who recently completed his Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) training in partnership with Calhoun Community

College and Alabama Farmers Cooperative through our local Co-op stores. This collaboration between AFC and Calhoun not only benefited Seth personally, but also exemplifies the value of partnerships in fostering employee development at our local Co-ops and driving community growth.

Seth, an employee of Taleecon Farmers Cooperative in Notasulga, Alabama, recognized the need for a Class A CDL license at his local Co-op and committed to the time needed to receive the license. The program offered expert instruction from experienced instructors and a comprehensive curriculum that covered essential topics such as vehicle operations, safety regulations and proper handling and maintenance of commercial vehicles. The hands-on training provided by Calhoun allowed Seth to gain practical skills and experience behind the wheel, preparing him for a successful career with his local Co-op.

The partnership between our local Co-op stores and Calhoun brings numerous benefits to both parties involved. For our Co-ops, it means having a highly skilled and qualified driver who can contribute to our operations effectively. By investing in Seth’s training, they are committing to employee growth and loyalty, fostering a positive work environment, and enhancing staff recognition. On the other hand, the collaboration with the local community college allows Calhoun to showcase their ability to tailor programs to meet industry demands.

After completing the training program, and with the support of both Taleecon Farmers Co-op and Calhoun, Seth was able to take and pass both the written test and comprehensive practical exam, earning his Class A CDL license. He now has the opportunity to pursue a fulfilling career through multiple facets at his local Co-op.

Seth’s determination and hard work exemplifies the positive outcomes that arise from partnerships between businesses and local educational institutions. By investing in his professional development, the Co-op not only enhanced their workforce locally, but also contributed to the overall growth of the community. This serves as a reminder of the importance of investing in employee development and the impact it can have on businesses and communities alike.
