Sitting on 12 acres, the new 56,000 square foot CenterPointe Hospital of Columbia, single story acute behavioral hospital helps solve the issue of significant needs for beds in the Mid Missouri region for behavioral treatment. Located in the emerging Mid Missouri area of Columbia, the facility features both inpatient and outpatient treatment. Through the home-like feel, the facility is redefining the stigmas of psychiatric hospitals. In a safe and comfortable setting, patients are more relaxed to be able to focus on treatment. The overall facility was built with comfort in mind while also being safe. The biggest way the design accomplished this goal was through the flooring. The wood look luxury vinyl tile gives the feeling of warmth while also being easy to clean.

Designed as a prototype that can be adapted to a variety of sites, CenterPointe Hospital of Columbia’s design is anchored by the lobby and dining room. The design intent starts in the main lobby with the high ceilings and large windows that are continued in all public spaces while continuing the same feel with clerestory glazing in the more sensitive areas. The stone look Mannington LVT flooring contrasts between light and dark to enhance and highlight the architectural elements while bringing a natural feel into the space.

Dining Room & Community Spaces

Greeted with an abundance of light from the floor to ceiling windows keep the dinning room feeling open while continuing to bring the exterior elements to the interior. The horizontal banding in the dining area emphasizes the connection with the exterior by directing sight lines through the use of reveals. The dining room is not only a place for patient functions but also a meeting space for staff and public events.

The light color palette of the walls and flooring keep the space feeling light and fresh to allow the natural light to infuse the space. Half court basketball gym is a place for patients to relax. The windows at the top of the gym fill the space with natural light.

The InPatient area of the hospital builds on the same feel from the outpatient areas and entrance. Each of the two nurse stations continue the wood element that is repeated throughout the entire hospital.

Each Patient Room has one of the four accent colors to help patients find their room. No same accent color is adjacent to each other, across from each other, or diagonal from each other. Adding further interest and incorporating the wood look in the patient rooms, the headwalls give the rooms more of a home-like feel.

Offsetting the neutral walls from the corridors and nurse stations, the InPatient Activity and Group Rooms have accent colors for way-finding and are full of natural light that look into the landscaped outdoor activity space.

New stairs from the lobby lead up to one of the highlights of the renovation is the new Media Library located on the second floor of the school. The large iconic arched windows allow in lots of natural light but with a flip of a switch the window shades can control how much light is allowed in the space. The custom accent colored Interface carpet matches the accent paint colors that are carried through out the school while keeping the noise down while adding some fun to the space. It is the same carpet used throughout the entire building. At the entrance and center of the Media Library, the look and feel from the main entrance lobby contiues with the wood look LVT flooring and wood look paneled ceiling hanging over the large librarian welcome desk. The desk continues the same casework finishes that are found throughout the building but with an extra pop. 3Form Varia Ecoresin Panels Paper Cut incases strips of recycled colorful paper in the resin to add a fun pop of color with abstract feeling of books.

Finishes for McMurray need to be durable, easily cleaned, and easily repeatable to renew or refresh. The hallways are a great example of following these guidelines and MNPS standards. Offsetting the neutral wall colors, the floor pattern is a fun pop of color. The blue lines down the hallway was a request from the school for way for students to line up especially for the fifth and sixth graders. It gives a nice linear walking path for the students to keep hallways less chaotic and adding that pop of color.

EDUCATION

Classrooms were renovated and modernized. The same main flooring is continued from the corridors into the classrooms. To bring in the accent flooring colors and adding a pop of color, each classroom has an accent wall with one of the below paint colors. To differentiate the classrooms by grade, each grade has a designated accent paint color.

With the completion of the new tower, the hospital will have a total of 345 patient beds. CHMC is one of the busiest maternity departments in Los Angles with 3,400 babies being born at the hospital every year. The upper floors of the new tower will accommodate the new Labor and Delivery department that will include private suites that can handle multiple births and a water birthing suite, midwife services, and Ante Partum and Post Partum services with private rooms. The private rooms permit family to stay with moms and babies overnight. The tower will also include an enhanced Neonatal Care Unit with private rooms. One way to achieve the home-like feel is with the flooring. The flooring is a warm wood look LVT. The LVT is easy to clean and further enhances the space to be less sterile and more home-like. Patterns and color changes are not incorporated in the flooring design. Geriatric patients have a harder time with depth perception if the flooring is changed. The consistency of the flooring allows for a safer environment but the wood look LVT does not compromise on the overall look.

To offset the neutral walls and help patients find their room, each room has an accent color that can be seen in the corridor as you walk by an open door room. Original Branch Design RETAIL BANKING 47

Original Branch Design

The integration of the TCR (cashier recycler) machines into financial centers has changed the way First Tennessee does banking. The employee interacts with the machine and allows the transaction to run faster and more accurately. The customer does not see a difference in service, only how the branch is laid out. There are two TCR machines per branch. One is placed between the two Financial Service Representatives desks and the other is placed on teller’s row. In Phase I, of the integration, Glory TCR machines were deployed at 51 locations throughout the entire state. In Phase II of the integration, Glory TCR machines were deployed to 45 more locations throughout the entire state. In the end, every retail banking location has TCR machines.

In three different markets, one branch in each market was transformed into a universal branch. This allows all employees to help with any customer transaction. The transformation was a learning process. As we learned what worked and what did not work we made changes.

After the first phase was complete, we realized that the employee at the concierge desk needed to be able to get out from behind the desk faster to help the customer more efficiently. The concierge desk shape stayed close to the same design but location was changed and pulled off the wall for better access.

Through each phase, we learned what worked and what did not. We realized that we needed access to the drive-thru so there was not a designated person for just that one position. The wall dividing the drive-thu and the rest was of the branch was partially torn down We also learned that since commercial customers need different type of assistance than other clients. A special location called “the business center” was created for these customers.
