As of late, I am interested in the ability of built structures, when considering their role in the enhancement of human life. I believe architecture innately correlates with the interaction between living beings and inanimate objects. Consequently, this relation far exceeds the reaches and understanding of aesthetic beauty. Space and setting strengthen the appeal to emotion and manipulate moods either positively or negatively. I pursue studies, and my professional career, while carrying this philosophy with me, using it as a tool to help guide design decisions along my journey as an architect.

Les Strates Project Location: Term 4A: Year Completed: Tools used: Designer(s): Project Information:
Sudbury, ON Design Studio 2019 Photoshop, Illustrator, Rhinoceros 3D, Vray A. Roy & J. St. Pierre Basing ourselves on the concept of geological strata, which has had an unforgetable impact in the history of the city of Sudbury, our team designed a mutli-use structure, while taking into consideration the numerous layers of urban tissues found in the city’s downtown core. Our site analysis made it evident that these numerous layers of urban tissue would have the possiblity of being overlayed on top of each other consequently producing a strucutre, as well as a community, that is stable, balanced and united. The main floor is composed of a food market and a health clinic, while the superior floors are composed of residential units.

Matawa Education and Care Centre Project Location: Term 3C: Year Completed: Tools used: Project Information:
Thunder Bay, ON Co-op Work Term 2019 Rhinoceros 3D, Lumion, AutoCAD This project was my first approach at the professional world of architecture. During this very lengthy project, which lasted throughout the entire work term, the Matawa Education and Care Centre, a high school for people living in remote northern locations, endured a variety of renovations. These renovations included completely renovated floor plans and a new gymnasium. My role was to model the complete building using, three-dimensional software programs, and create visual representations of the building, suitable for presentations.

North Bay City Hall Lobby Renovations Project Location: Term 3C: Year Completed: Tools used: Project Information:
North Bay, ON Co-op Work Term 2019 Rhinoceros 3D, Lumion, AutoCAD An exercise given to me during my work term at Critchley Hill Architecture Inc. Alongside another student, I was given the task to re-design and model the current conditions of North Bay’s City Hall. The client wanted a contemporary renovation as well as an improved and larger office space. My co-worker and I were able to create a set of working and presentation drawings, which we presented in front of elected members of North Bay’s city council.

As a society we have evolved towards a system where it is almost inevitable to seek automobiles as primary means of transportation. Allowing bystanders to physically interact with the city in which they reside, we hope to educate Sudburians on sustainable transportation. Utilizing Junction Creek as a unifying trajectory will encourage citizens to explore their city in a way they may not have previously considered. An immersive walk through the installation echos the enclosure of vegetation & tree canopies found along the Junction Creek trail as well as interesting regions found along this route.

A few photographs of our installation while it was displayed a the Downtown Sudbury Farmer’s Market. These photographs focus on human interaction and how bystanders decided to dwell within the installation. We also designed an unfolding poster explaining to visitors our intentions and the installation’s intended use.
