NEW PRODUCT GUIDE CELAP (China Executive Leadership Academy of Pudong) Place: Pudong, China Year: 2005 Surface: 72 000 sq m Award: Luban Price 2005 (Best construction in China) The CELAP design was an exceptional experience for Agence d’Architecture A.Bechu in terms of scale, program and encounter. The campus spread over 80he with a complex brief and a deadline of 25 months from concept design to inauguration. 7 other prestigious architectural firms were invited to participate in an international 2 phase competition. The winning project captures the interest of China’s top leader and future party chairman by its audacious and contemporary rendition of the traditional professorial table lacquered in crimson red. Seen from above and as a whole, the 300m long “table” is the Chinese pictogram for the number one as this is the high learning institute for the nation in business administration. Seen more partially through the campus gardens, the sculptural legs and more free forms evoke stability with movement.

D2 Tower
Place: Paris - La Defense, France Year: 2014 Surface: 54,500 sq m / 37 floors / 171m height Environmental certifications : NF-HQE, energy performances Cref -30%, RT2012 conformity, BREEAM La Defense is Europe’s biggest Business and is now under a “Renewal Plan” in the goal to adapt to today’s needs and comply with sustainable development objectives. The D2 Tower is first of all an urban project: it transforms the current ring road into a urban boulevard where life can be resettled. The D2 Tower is an architectural icon. It complex shape and structure generates 3 major frontages with its surrounding: a high tech prow pointed towards Paris, a thin overlooking figure towards Courbevoie, and a gentle
curved rear abutting the ring road. The D2 Tower is structured like a tree: the bottom galleries and pedestrian links act as the roots, grounding the project on the site; the elevators, stairways and servicing areas as the trunk; the floors as the branches; and most importantly the steel exo-structure as the foliage that holds every entity together. At the top of its 170 meters height, its open-air top “Clouds’garden” under the canopy gives a thriving sense of well being at the heart of Paris’s business district. The D2 Tower is the first tower in La Défense to enable 30% of material economy through its sophisticated steel exo-structure. D2 is a symbol of sustainable development. The D2 Tower is a real innovation in terms of high rise construction. Its complex superstructure to gather over a narrow site and busy ring road implied creativity, innovation and efficient planning to meet the 3 year construction targeted.

Hotel-Dieu Intercontinental 5* The Hotel-Dieu in Marseille is the former old general hospital of the city founded in 1753. The Agence d’Architecture Anthony Bechu, representative of the project, has been associated to Tangram Architect’s to lead the reopening of the site to the city, the reconversion and the valorization of the historical monument, as well as the conception of housing to connect the Panier district to the old harbor. The partner’s objective – Cogedim as contracting authority, Axa as investor, Intercontinental as operator and Thed International as hotel advisor - was to bring the monument into the 21st Century by a respectful transformation of the spirit of the place, to transform it into a 5-stars hotel. The restoration of the Hotel-Dieu, remarkable heritage of the city of Marseille, has been carefully driven. The architect’s work proceeded in three phases: • A deep historical study to find the ambition of the original architect, Jules Hardouin-Mansart: remove extensions added over the centuries, and reposition the monument at the hinge between the old Panier district and the old harbor. • The restoration of heritage zones: the great stairs, the terrace, the facades, the roof, galleries and pavilions. • The reorganization of interior spaces to set up the hotel program: 172 rooms, 22 suites, a SPA, 2 restaurants (one has already won a Michelin Star), a cultural center and a seminar center; with a decoration inspired from the city of Marseille and the Mediterranean sea. The contracting authority has associated volume ABC and Ocre Bleu to the architect’s team to realize the interior decoration. The Hotel-Dieu of Marseille is one of the first hotel restructuring in Europe that obtained NF Commercial Buildings - HQE; Standard.

NEW PRODUCT GUIDE Qingdao International Shipping Center Place: Qingdao, China Year: 2012 742,000 sq m Located in the harbor area of Qingdao, the International Shipping Center is key to Qingdao’s development strategy and sets a new standard for mixeduse transit-oriented development. The project links via a two-layered landscaped pedestrian promenade the waterfront to a world-class shopping mall, A grade offices and a five-star hotels. The retail is located in continuity of the public space, interacting with and animating it, allowing for instance cafe terraces to extend on to the public space. There is no limit between the outside and the mall.

Residential Towers in Istanbul Place: Istanbul, Turquia Surface: 69,000 sq m The rampart urban growth devouring Istanbul has overwhelmed the parks that used to extend down the slopes from the city above and along the bank of the Bosphorus, where the agency’s project is located. The aim is to regreen this district and recreate the landscape of the river banks. Three heavily planted tower blocks positioned down the slope of the site and resting on a base containing a shopping centre with terraces and hanging gardens, free the ground level and allow trees and parks to be planted. These avant-garde buildings are designed to be energy-positive.

To comply with the site, its context, its climatic conditions and enrich the living environment, our inspiration comes from observing nature: the spiral pattern of the quarter gathers and assemble the houses as penguins huddling together and rotating positions to keep warm during a storm. The bioclimatic master plan of clusters result in maximized solar gains in each house and cluster while providing wind protection for a greater comfort during winter and summer. Energy efficiency conceived according to “Passiv Haus” standards, the houses will benefit a very high performance level, reducing heat losses to the minimum. Thiqar stadium Place: Nasiriyah, Iraqi PROGRAM: Main stadium with 30,000 seat capacity, athletics stadium with 2,000 seat capacity, training stadium with 500 seat capacity, 4* hotel SURFACE: 55,000 sq m Located on the exit to Nasiriyah to the south of Iraq, on the road to Baghdad, the project includes a stadium seating 30,000, two training stadiums seating 2,500 and 500 people respectively and a 4* hotel with 80 rooms. Designed to meet safety regulations and FIFA standards, the stadium is sheltered by an embossed aluminium shell which seems to float above the ground and whose patterns evoke the vegetal ornamentation of traditional Iraqi monuments. Its strong identity brings together tradition and modernity within a contemporary movement.

It retains 60% of water per volume and 37% of air at all time, because it can’t be fully saturated with water it is the perfect growing medium for any hydroponic system. The high capillarity of the foam insures a homogenous repartition of the water through the grow-bag. It also insures that the medium can be flushed efficiently for reuse for the next crop. TERRAfoam is a water retention product used in a mix with soil that can reduce water irrigation by 40%. It’s biodegradable over a period of 15 years. The world energy consumption is estimated to rise considerably over the next decades. Being constantly reminded that traditional methods of energy production are contributing to serious environmental problems, the Governments have seen the urgent need of decrease pollution through renewable energy generation. In the dynamic evolution of the renewable energy industry a wave energy industry is emerging. Although the technology is relatively new the interest is steadily increasing, because an important feature of sea waves is their high energy density, which is the highest among the renewable energy sources. Faggiolati Pumps S.p.A. has always been involved in the design and marketing of innovative and environmentally friendly products. Several years of research and collaborations with the best Italian universities, has led to the creation of a new turbine that converts the energy from sea waves, using systems called OWC (oscillating water column). The turbine’s particularity is that it always maintains the same direction of rotation, both during the compression phase-rise of the level of water and during the depression-lowering of water level in the water column. This machine allows to avoid the use of valves which rectify the efflux of air, with obvious advantages in terms of reliability, efficiency and operating costs. Like all the Faggiolati products, the turbine is made with the highest quality materials and components: bronze and stainless steel AISI316L suitable for marine applications, high efficiency generators and inverter, and an appropriate control logic that allows to maximize the energy converted from the sea. The results obtained has allowed the creation of an international patent (N. PCT/IB2014/059339 ), which further improves the performance of the turbine for each energy condition of the sea.
