USING SOCIAL MEDIA For Physician Recruitment

Overview 1,188 hospitals are currently using social media technologies, including ours oThis is 548 YouTube channels, 1018 Facebook pages, 788 Twitter accounts, 458 LinkedIn profiles and 137 blogs o71% of physician respondents to a NEJM survey search for practice opportunities online o

Why use social media?

Today’s physicians are often short on time, but very tech-savvy The recruitment process needs to accommodate for new technologies and trends to market to this generation of physicians Most social media applications are free

Facebook

Our hospital is using Facebook as part of Upstate New York Physician Recruiters A dedicated Physician Recruitment page could be created Facebook is free and searchable How it works: A prospective applicant who has a Facebook account can click the “Like button on the Upstate New York Physician Recruiters page and, thereafter, will automatically receive posts related to positions

Twitter

The use of Twitter is sometimes called “microblogging” A sentence or fragment is enough to convey your message Twitter is free and searchable How it works: a prospective applicant with a Twitter account would click the “Follow” button and our physician recruitment posts would then appear on her Twitter page

Linkedin

Our hospital has a presence, whether intentional or not, due to employees joining Linkedin Linkedin is primarily a platform to connect professionals The site has many services other than profiles, from job ads to recruiters, but extra services involve fees For now having our own page is probably enough Our main purpose would be to post our contact info to link with prospective applicants

Blog

Blogs on Blogger and Wordpress are free and may be customized with a logo, color scheme and layout Blog posts or articles could be about positions available, recent hires, advantages of working here, area information and job search advice

Flickr

Flickr is a photo gallery In our photo gallery, there could be several albums, such as seasons of the southern tier and what to do in upstate New York Flickr is free and searchable We would link our photo gallery to our website and blog

Free Physician Job Posting There is at least one free site to post physician jobs. MDsearch.com has: Free job postings and thousands of qualified physician candidates Email alerts to your personal inbox when you have a new applicant Automatic job expiration with email notifications Easily upload multiple jobs, or copy and reactivate expired jobs Direct communication with interested physicians through our unique online message center

Evaluation I suggest we use Survey Monkey to find out where applicants are finding us. Then, we could zoom in on and enhance those avenues they use the most.

Advantages Social media can be used in the place of or in addition to outside recruiters oThe value of using our resources alone is we have the ultimate control of the process oWe can slash our recruitment costs by taking advantage of the free social networking and job posting sites oSetting these accounts up won’t take much time and can be maintained easily o
