ISSUE 20 AAU President and Deanship of Student Affairs Meet New Students The Deanship of Student Affairs at Al Ain University of Science and Technology organized the first meeting with the new students joining AAU for the First Semester 2013/2014 at Al Ain and Abu Dhabi campuses. Prof. Ghaleb Awad El Refae, AAU President, and Prof. Abdelhafid Belarbi, AAU Vice President, attended the meeting along with college deans and faculty members. Prof. El Refae welcomed the new students expressing his pleasure for their joining AAU. He underlined that they will receive the attention and support they need from AAU administration and faculty. He also added that AAU seeks to provide distinguished services for its students and to ensure they find the appropriate atmosphere to study. On her part, Dr. Enas Abu Libdeh, Dean of Student Affairs, welcomed the new students highlighting AAU’s and the Deanship of Student Affairs’ interest in the academic side and supporting it with extracurricular activities. AAU Delegation at ADEC Induction Day A delegation from Al Ain University of Science and Technology (AAU) attended the induction day organized by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) in the presence of H.E. Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, ADEC’s Director General, and a number of faculty members from the AAU College of Education. The purpose of the meeting is to familiarize higher education institutes with ADEC’s educational practices, curricula, and teacher preparation programs so as to ensure that teacher preparation programs in the institutions are in tandem with reality as well as with the educational Read More development plan of ADEC.

Orientation for New Students at AAU The Deanship of Student Affairs at Al Ain University of Science and Technology organized an orientation week for new students joining for the academic year 2013/2014 at the AAU Abu Dhabi campus. The Deputy Dean of Student Affairs, the Deputy Deans, and a number of faculty members in the Colleges of Business Administration and Law in addition to the Director of the English Language Center, the Continuing Education Center Manager and the Librarian provided academic guidance to the large number of new Read More students attending the meetings.

A New Academic Year: AAU Launches New Labs and Facilities A year ago, Al Ain University of Science and Technology moved from its old campus in Al Towayya to the new campus in Al Jimi, Al Ain, and with the move a new era of academic achievements began. Today, AAU carries on the process it commenced since its establishment in 2004. In this regard, Dr. Noor Aldeen Atatreh, AAU Chancellor, pointed out that the new buildings and labs are a translation of the directions of the UAE leadership with regard to providing the best support possible for educational institutions in the country on all levels. It is also the result of the intensive follow up by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, namely Shekih Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, to provide the necessary support for the students and the educational process.

ISSUE 20 AAU College of Engineering Student among Top 10 Contestants at GITEX 2013 The GITEX Technology week, one of the most important technology exhibitions in the world, will kick off in October at Dubai World Trade Center. This year, GITEX will launch the “Student Lab Competition” to recognize and encourage the ICT students to innovate and experiment. The organizers have received numerous entries from universities in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia as well as the UAE. The best 18 applications were selected, and the 18 teams competed in the second round of the competition where all the 18 projects were evaluated by a jury who selected the top 10 projects. The student “Karam Alnafous” from the AAU College of Engineering and Information Technology has been selected among the top 10 at GITEX Technology Week 2013 - Student Lab Competition for his project entitled: “Connection between PC and Smart Phone with Map Technology”. The student has been invited to showcase and present his innovative project at GITEX Technology Week 2013 to the leaders in the ICT industry. During the last day of GITEX Technology Week 2013 the jury and the participants will vote for the top 3 projects and contestants who will have a chance to win cash prizes and training opportunities. Training for AAU Students Participating in Science Festival Fifty students from Al Ain University of Science and Technology have volunteered to take part in the Abu Dhabi Science Festival to take place from Nov. 14 – 23, 2013. AAU President Meets New Faculty Members As part of the attention he gives to communicating with faculty members and providing students with updated services, Prof. Ghaleb Awad El Refae, AAU President, met with the new faculty members who have recently joined the AAU various colleges where he welcomed them and offered his greetings for the beginning of the academic year 2013/2014. El Refae highlighted that mutual respect and openness should always govern the relationship between students, faculty, and administration. Faculty members were also urged to abide by office hours and textbooks and to continue to improve the educational process which is a pivotal criterion in quality assurance. AAU Participates in MOI Smart Applications Award Represented by the Deanship of Student Affairs at Abu Dhabi campus, Al Ain University of Science and Technology took part in the launching ceremony of the Ministry of Interior’s Award for Smart Applications organized by the Ministry of Interior under the patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
