November 2014 – October 2015 April Edition

CRUISES Sailing to over 120 destinations. Now featuring itineraries from Dubrovnik.

All tips and service charges included.

Designed for you. Only from Thomson. Here at Thomson Cruises, we understand how precious your time away is. We’re proud to say we’re the only cruise company to offer flights from 20 UK airports, and to include tips and service charges in the price. We’ve gone further than that, too. Our fleet is part of the Thomson Platinum collection, which means all our ships have to score ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ with 90% or more of our customers.

April Edition. This may be superseded and replaced by a later edition. Always check with your travel agent to ensure that you have the most up to date brochure edition. Also see section 2 of Our Agreement with You for ‘The Price You Pay’. This brochure was published in April 2014 and prices are valid from 24th April 2014. © Thomson is a trading name of TUI UK Limited. THE ESSENTIALS EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THOMSON CRUISES

On our radar We’ve added some great new itineraries to this brochure. Here’s our pick of the best…

Our summer 2015 holidays have arrived, and we couldn’t be more excited to share what’s new with you. We’ve added a whole new collection of itineraries to the line-up, which ticks off a range of destinations – you can experience everything from a day in Italy’s San Remo region, to an overnight stay in Cuba’s Havana. Thomson Celebration has a new home port, too – the ship will be sailing from the ancient city of Dubrovnik, and stopping at a series of Eastern Mediterranean hotspots as a result. That’s not all. We’ve introduced even more hotels to our Cruise & Stay collection. So whether you’re pairing your cruise with a 3, 4 or 7-night hotel stay, you’re sure to find a base that’s just right for you. Whatever type of cruise holiday you’re after, this brochure will help you plan it. For more inspiration, visit thomson.co.uk/cruise.

We’re onto a winner We picked up a string of gongs in the mid-sized ship category at the 2014 Cruise Critic Cruisers’ Choice Awards. What makes these prizes worthy of a prime spot on the mantelpiece is that they are voted for by you. Awards are handed out based on reviews submitted by the cruising public.

WE’VE GONE SOCIAL Got a question? You can talk to us around the clock on our Facebook page – facebook.com/ thomsoncruises

TOP

Hotels rated by you If you want to single out our top-rated hotels, keep an eye out for Gold Medal and Top Gold Medal winners. These are the ones our customers score the highest as part of the surveys we give out on Thomson Airways flights. The scores are shown in this brochure alongside each hotel.

A cabin with a view Last year, we added balconies to a string of cabins on Thomson Celebration. Now, we’re pleased to announce that Thomson Majesty and Thomson Spirit have been treated to the same, so you can opt for a private sea view on any one of our ships.

THERE ARE LOTS OF REASONS TO CHOOSE A THOMSON CRUISES HOLIDAY. HERE’S JUST A TASTER…

Thomson Cruises presents Dream Runners From December 2014, Thomson Dream will be sailing from Montego Bay. To celebrate, we’ve released an innovative film that showcases our fantastic Jamaica excursions line-up. It features freerunning troupe, 3RUN, who’ve worked on Hollywood blockbusters like Casino Royale, and Olympic medallist, Yohan Blake, in a race to the ship before it sets sail.

From St Tropez to Havana, we take our customers to over 120 destinations every year. And a quick glance at where we visit is probably enough to tempt you onboard. Turn to our Destination Guide to see the full list, and keep an eye out for our new Mediterranean ports of call, such as Split in Croatia, Durres in Albania, and Chania in Crete.

We’re the only cruise company to offer flights from 20 regional UK airports. Nearly all of them come courtesy of Thomson’s airline, Thomson Airways. We make it really easy at the other end, too, by taking care of all your transfers.

Our smaller ships have bigger personalities. Our crew go the extra mile to make you feel at home, and deliver nothing but the very best service. In fact, last summer, 99% of our customers rated our service as good or excellent.

Our friendly service doesn’t come with a price tag. Unlike most cruise lines, we don’t think tips and service charges should cost extra, so we’ve included them in the price. That means you’re not expected to tip any of our crew – unless, of course, you want to. This could save you a couple of hundred pounds*.

You get Full Board as standard on our cruises. If you’ve got a budget to stick to when it comes to drinks, why not book our All Inclusive drinks package? Not only does it give you peace of mind you won’t overspend, it’s really good value, too. In fact, if you book early enough, it might even be free. *Based on competitor prices

Cartagena Port of Cultures - Cartagena Spend the morning admiring La Manga, a strip of white sandy beaches which, dividing two seas, creates the World’s largest swimming pool. Hence the name “Paradise between two seas”. Not a bad start for a day! While you take in this natural piece of art you’ll have time to stroll around the bars and shops before a short photo stop at the little fishing village of Cabo the Palos. Then it's off to Cartagena - being a port of cultures, it counts more than 2500 years of history. The best way to take it all in is to climb to the castle - or better take the scenic glass lift to the castle 47m high. From here you’ll enjoy the superb views of the port, the theatre and the bullring. After that you'll have some free time and your shopping can start from Calle Mayor, the very heart of the commercial centre. Enjoy! This is just one of the excursions available. City Tour, Boat Ride & Wine Tasting - Porto Climb aboard your coach for a scenic drive through Porto. One of the first sights you'll pass is the church of Clerigos. With its ornate flourishes, it’s one of the best examples of Baroque architecture in the whole of Portugal. And its tower is a sky-scraping 76 metres high – that’s like 18 double-decker buses stood one on top of the other. Your first stop will be at Porto’s cathedral. It’s the oldest church in the area and you’ll find it in the oldest part of the city. After you’ve checked out all its 12th century touches, you’ll head for a waiting boat for a cruise down the Douro. It’s the best way to see the city, so sit back and relax as you float past bridges, beautiful old buildings and the ancient city walls. River cruising aside, the highlight of your day is a visit to one of Porto’s famous wine cellars. You’ll learn about the production of port, covering everything from tawny port to white port, and maybe try a sip or two, too.

Barcelona City Highlights - Barcelona Few cities of the world can boast such architectural richness and culture as the electrifying metropolis of Barcelona. This extensive tour of the city takes in many of the major highlights, including the Old Quarter and the city’s most eccentric landmark - Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia. Work on this church began in 1882 and still continues today. If you’re a first time visitor to Barcelona, don’t miss the chance to see it. Another ‘must see’ attraction you’ll visit is The Spanish Village, where you can see many examples of Spanish architecture. Enjoy the arts and crafts shops and spend some time shopping before taking a drive through Montjuic Gardens. Finally, you’ll travel up to a Montjuic Mirador for a wonderful view of the city and the harbour overlooking the Olympic Village.

Clap eyes on the orange-roofed Duomo and weave your way through the pretty maze of streets to the Gothic Old Palace with its ornate courtyard. You’ll get to see Ponte Vecchio, too, the only bridge in Florence to survive the World War II bombings. After that, you’ll have some free time to explore, whether you want to visit the famous galleries or just tuck into a tasty lunch in the sun. Then it’s time to head for your second city of the day – Pisa. Once you get here, it's approximately a 15minute walk to the Miracle Square to see the famous Leaning Tower, one of the most recognised sites in the world.

Kotor, Montenegro

Highlights of Montenegro - Kotor The port of Kotor finds a home on the world’s southernmost fjord - or the ‘Bride of the Adriatic’, as it’s also known. As places go, it’s beautiful. Think blue seas. A stony shore. Green mountains. All drenched in the heavenly scent of lemons, oranges, mimosas and camellias. And here’s your chance to explore this gorgeous part of the world. First you’ll stop at the mountain village of Njegusi to taste the region’s delicious smoked ham and cheese. Stomach full, you’re ready for Cetinje. Known as the ‘Valley of Gods’, it was once the smallest European capital and it’s filled to bursting with beautiful buildings. Here you'll visit the King Nikola's palace before having some free time to stroll around. Next you’re off to Budva - the most popular tourist destination on Montenegro’s map. And quite rightly so. Beautiful architecture meets seductive sandy beaches in this spot. Perhaps that’s why lots of millionaires decide to live here. Want to join them? This is just one of the excursions available. St Tropez & Port Grimaud - St Raphael (for St Tropez & Cannes) Follow in the footsteps of Hollywood royalty on our coach trip to St Tropez and Port Grimaud. The drive to St Tropez is the warm up – you’ll get a real taste of the French Riviera’s medieval towns and white-sand beaches. Once in St Tropez, we’ll take you on a walking tour. The place started life as a fishing village, and remained pretty anonymous until fashionistas like Coco Chanel and Brigitte Bardot started dropping by. Celebrities still gravitate to its exclusive marina, where super yachts jostle for space. The town’s kept its old-world charm, too – we’ll take you around the old district, a tangle of slim streets decorated with jasmine trellises and tiny squares. Then it’s on to Port Grimaud, a Venice-like village of alleys linked by canals and bridges, and lined with multicoloured fisherman-style houses. Take a little boat ride here before visiting the village part of Grimaud for some free time. This is just one of the excursions available. Tangier City Tour – Tangier Known as the White City, the first thing you’ll notice about Tangier is the jumble of white houses that huddle around the port – that and the skyline of Christian spires and Muslim minarets. This trip kicks off with a drive along the city’s sandy beach as you make your way to the caves of Hercules. It’s believed Hercules slept here before attempting one of his 12 labours. Your next stop is the lighthouse at Cap Spartel on the extreme north promontory of Africa. Then it’s time to head back to Tangier for a visit to the Kasbah, the fortified citadel within the old town. You’ll also see Mendoubia park, the vibrant fruit and vegetable market and the city’s throbbing heart, the Grand Socco, a huge marketplace that echoes with the shouts of haggling merchants. Of course, no visit would be complete without a trip to the medina, a labyrinth of streets crammed with shops at the Petit Socco.

Amalfi Drive - Sorrento From Sophia Loren to George Clooney, this slice of coast has been a magnet for the rich and glamorous for decades. On this trip you’ll snake your way along the winding clifftop roads from buzzing Sorrento to the film-star-favourite town of Amalfi. The road takes you up to dizzying heights, showcasing widescreen views of the coastline. Keep your camera to hand as we travel past the lemon groves and sorbet-painted villages that have been built up the steep cliff sides. We’ll have a stop for photos at one of the most impressive viewpoints along the way. Once we pull up in Amalfi, a guide will show you the town’s star attraction – the monochrome-striped cathedral. You’ll then have some free time to explore the town under your own steam – wander down to the marina, shop for locally made limoncello, or order a gelato from a beach-side café. Pompeii - Naples Explore the historical city of Pompeii, one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. This fascinating tour’s the perfect introduction to this ancient city, situated at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. It was destroyed in 79AD, following the famous volcanic eruption that smothered it in 6 to 7 metres of pumice and ash. You’ll walk with your guide around the remains of this impressive - and doomed – city to get a feel for what life was like in Roman times before the city’s destruction. A fascinating tour that is not to be missed!

Erice - Trapani To see the best of Sicily, you have to climb to great heights. And on this trip you'll do exactly that. After a coach drive to the cable station, you’ll take the cable car up to the top of a mountain. Take in the view out over the Trapani salt pans, the turquoise sea and all the way to the Egadi Islands - it's breathtaking. While you're up here, you'll explore the Medieval town that is Erice. Wander the winding cobbled streets. Visit the Mother Church that's stood here for over 700 years. And admire the Castle of Venus where the son of Athena, goddess of love, built a temple in his mother's honour. But save some sighs for the gorgeous Balio Gardens in all their rainbow bright glory. Last but not least you'll have time to enjoy the atmosphere in Erice’s dinky plaza, before you take the cable car back down to the ship.

From here, you’ll head for the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus went to pray after the Last Supper. Kornati National Park - Sibenik The Kornati National Park is made up of a group of islands scattered off the coast of Croatia. There are more than 140 uninhabited islets and islands in total, some of which are stark and rocky, others of which are cloaked in vast olive groves and sweeping vineyards. On this tour, you’ll enjoy a scenic boat ride through the region, stopping at a sleepy cove for a swim along the way. As you sail around the islands, your guide will recount the tales that hail from these parts – stories of pirates and treasure-seekers that have put the park on the map. Lunch will be served by waiters on the boat, with the likes of grilled fish and salad made up of fresh local produce on the menu. Wine and water is included, too.

Mount Etna - Messina Enjoy a scenic drive to Europe’s largest active volcano, the famous Mount Etna. Upon arrival at the Crateri Silvestri, around 1,950 metres above sea level, you’ll see slopes that soar up to 3,296 metres and mountains covered with cones and craters. From the top of the Silvestri crater, enjoy great views over the Gulf of Catania. However, the real attraction here is the crater itself and the remnants of awe-inspiring lava streams. Etna’s known to have erupted regularly during antiquity. The black lava around the crater dates from recent eruptions, while the grey lava is much older. Don’t miss your chance to see one of the most impressive volcanoes in the world.

Omalos Plateau - Chania The Omalos Plateau is Crete’s wild west, both in geography and in appearance. It’s in the middle of the White Mountains, where the highest peak spikes 2,452 metres into the sky. The plateau itself is 25 kilometres wide and circled by rocky peaks that wouldn’t look out of place in a John Wayne film. Its history resembles a western storyline, too. Rebels used to hide out here during the Turkish occupation of Crete. The views from this wide open space take in the Samaria Gorge. Measuring 16 kilometres in length, it’s the longest gorge in Europe, and it’s protected by World Biosphere status. During this trip, you’ll stop for a break in the rural village of Omalos. There are a couple of traditional tavernas here, and you’ll pop into one for a cup of tea or coffee. Keep an eye out for the cheese that’s on sale in the tiny village shops. It’s made from goats’ milk using ancient traditional methods.

Kruja – Durres Take a step back in time as you explore historical Kruja, once part of the ancient city of Albanopolis. Kruja’s past is colourful to say the least, packed with feudal wars, sieges and foreign invasions. The citadel even played host to one of Europe’s biggest struggles, when the 2,000-strong Albanian army defeated the 100,000 soldiers of an Ottoman sultan in 1450. You’ll find out more about this in the Albanian National Museum, dedicated to the heroic army general, George Kastrioti Skanderbeg. There’ll be time to shop for souvenirs in the old bazaar, before we make our way to Durres. It’s another town with an intriguing history – over the years, it’s been occupied by the Venetians, Turks, Greeks and Romans. Plenty of Roman buildings are still standing today – the most impressive is the amphitheatre, built by Hadrian back in 117AD. This is just one of the excursions available. You’ll step into the walled city through Pile Gate, where you’ll be transported back in time on a guided walk through the cobbled streets. Afterwards, the time is yours to spend as you like. Pick your own path through the winding lanes, gaze up at the Baroque buildings, and breathe in the scent of freshly-baked pastries from the pavement cafés. Classical Istanbul - Istanbul With one foot in the East and one in the West, Turkey’s cultural capital has enough monuments to keep you busy for days. The best way to cram all the big-hitters into one day? On our whistlestop city tour. We’ll whisk you into the old city to see the Hippodrome where Ben Hur-style chariot races were once held. You’ll also get to visit the Blue Mosque next door. From here you’ll walk to the watermelon-pink and multi-domed Hagia Sofia, a triumph of Byzantine design. After having some free time to grab some lunch, you'll visit Topkapi Palace, the royal residence where a museum packed with Ottoman treasures awaits. Last but not least, we’ll take you to the Grand Bazaar, a half-century-old rabbit warren stuffed with more than 4000 shops. Time is your own to potter around the labyrinth, where you’ll find everything from 41-carat rose diamonds and fine-knit pashminas to Turkish carpets and pottery. This is just one of the excursions available. To see what else is in store, visit cruiseexcursions.thomson.co.uk

Masada & Dead Sea - Ashdod Kicking off with a drive through the Judean Hills, is the Masada Fortress. Perched on the tip of a titanic rock face, this Jewish shrine was the last stronghold of the zealots back in the days of King Herod. A cable car will carry you to the top where you’ll explore the ancient ruins, taking in Herod’s three-tiered palace, the synagogue and the baths. Spare some time to soak up the view before heading down and being whisked away to the Dead Sea. Located at the lowest spot on earth, its waters are packed with therapeutic salt. You can enjoy a dip or simply lie back. Don’t forget to take a little bit of the magic home with you, snapping up some Dead Sea products on your way.

Pyrgi & Mesta Villages – Chios Town Graffiti is usually a bit of an eyesore – but not in Pyrgi. The houses in this Medieval village are adorned with Xista, a type of graffiti that dates right back to the time of the Genoese occupation of the island. The monochrome geometric designs were hand-engraved, and are still in mint condition today. We’ll reach the village after driving through orange and lemon groves, and will have time to tour the narrow streets and peek inside the Byzantine church, a miniature replica of the island’s UNESCO-listed Nea Moni Monastery. Once we’re done in Pyrgi, we’ll continue inland to the Medieval village of Mesta. It’s got a real labyrinthine feel to it, with just one entrance and one exit. Most of the skinny streets are topped with arches and vaults, too, and the layout was designed to confuse marauding pirates. After a wander through the village, we’ll stop off at the local church, which has a beautiful handmade wooden temple. This is just one of the excursions available. Byblos, Jeita Grotto & Beirut - Beirut This full day tour teams natural wonders and age-old ruins with a taste of the local cuisine, so it’s a perfect introduction to Lebanon. One of the oldest cities in the world, Byblos is estimated to have stood for at least 7,000 years. You’ll visit the Cathedral of St. John-Marcus and the Crusader’s Castle while you’re here – the latter of which houses impressive ruins from the Phoenician, Roman and Byzantine eras. Leaving the ancient city behind, you’ll continue to Jeita. This place is home to two spectacular grottos, and you’ll take a cable car to the caverns to enjoy a boat ride inside. The millennia-old stalagmites and stalactites in here look like dripping candlesticks. Lunch is served in the Jeita Grotto Restaurant, where you’ll get to munch on a Lebanese Mezza of grilled meats and vegetables. Your tour ends with a wander around Beirut, Lebanon’s capital, which is filled with museums, galleries and street food stalls.

Bucharest City Tour - Constanta Once nicknamed ‘Little Paris’, Bucharest is a city of tree-lined boulevards and palatial buildings. This coach tour sees them all, before finishing off with a traditional restaurant lunch. First off, you’ll have a chance to explore Parliament Palace – also known as the People’s Palace. After the Pentagon, it’s the biggest administrative building in the world. One million cubic metres of Transylvanian marble and thousands of tons of crystal, steel and bronze made up the building blocks of this giant. Inside, you’ll find Romanian-made artwork and super-sized chandeliers. After an hour’s tour, we’ll move on to the 17th-century Patriarchal Cathedral. It’s easily spotted by its bone-white bell tower and columned entrance. A traditional 3-course lunch in the grand Crystal Palace Ballrooms finishes the day. The drive back to the ship is a sightseeing tour in itself – you’ll glimpse the Triumphal Arch and the needle-like memorial on Revolution Square. This is just one of the excursions available. Bulgarian Village – Nessebar A trip to traditional Erkech is like a trip back in time. Surrounded by pastures where goats and cattle graze, this old Bulgarian village finds a home in the Balkan range of Stara Planina. While you’re here, call in at a local house for a demonstration of spinning and weaving. Then head over to the distillery to taste the country’s most popular tipple – brandy. Learn how it’s still made this in area and of course taste a drop or two. After that, try some typical Bulgarian snacks at a great little restaurant that does good home cooking. A local cook will be on hand to show you how to make banitsa – a traditional Bulgarian pastry. To round your morning off, you’ll be entertained with a folklore performance. Before you leave, don’t forget to take a look at the watermill, too, before coming back to the future and returning to your ship.

Highlights of Antigua - St John's Peek into Antigua’s colonial past on this whistlestop history tour. This fully guided trip takes you from the quaint capital of St John’s, through the countryside to your first stop - The Blockhouse Fort ruins. Perched a whopping 500 feet above sea level, they’re a great viewing platform for the rest of the island. Look in one direction and you’ll spot Indian Creek, once home to Antigua’s first native tribe. Turn around, and you’ll catch a glimpse of the newer and much more glamorous home of Eric Clapton. Later, make your way to the island’s most southerly point, Shirley Heights. Back in the 18th century, soldiers used this as a lookout podium to spy on enemies and signal to nearby forts. The last, and arguably best, port of call is Nelson’s Dockyard, the world’s only working Georgian dockyard which are still in use today. Here, you can stroll through the old-fashioned Georgian buildings and even visit the original Naval Officer’s house.

St George's, Grenada

Discover Grenada - St George's All cinnamon, cloves and allspice, it’s little wonder Grenada’s known as the Caribbean’s Spice Island. But they’re not the only treats that grow here. There’s plenty of citrus, bananas and cocoa beans, too. In fact, the menu of plants that call this place home reads like the ingredients for a Nigella recipe, so it’s easy to see how this place came to be one of the world’s leading spice suppliers. The first stop on this trip lets you see it all first hand, at the Dougaldston Spice Estate. Driving on, you’ll wind through the rainforest to the Grand Etang Lake viewing point. A giant volcano crater filled to the brim with cobalt water, it’s certainly easy on the eye. And its volcanotop location makes it all the more breathtaking. From here, you’ll travel to Annandale Falls, a fairytale paradise of cascading water, hanging ferns and dainty orchids that’s like a secret Caribbean garden. This is just one of the excursions available. To see what else is in store, visit cruiseexcursions.thomson.co.uk

Cozumel, Mexico CALENDAR

7+7 Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins - Cozumel The pyramid of El Castillo was built to stop people in their tracks. You’ll get to experience the effect yourself on this guided tour of Chichen Itza. This Mayan city was built between 750 and 1200 AD. And El Castillo is just one of the ruined buildings that still stand here. You’ll also see the Temple of Warriors, which is gilded with statues and symbolism. And you’ll see the Great Ball Court, where the Mayans used to host spectator sports. As you walk around, your guide will explain the meanings hidden in the architecture and layout of the ancient city. Then you’ll have some time to explore for yourself. Once you’re familiar with the site, you’ll head to a restaurant for lunch. Mexican food hasn’t changed that much since Mayan times. Rice, beans, tortillas and spice were eaten then as they are now. Your lunch will feature a few modern additions, though, like cochinitastyle pork, lime soup and Yucatan barbecued chicken. This is just one of the excursions available. Havana Highlights - Havana Vintage American cars purring through the streets. Mile-high murals of revolutionary icons. Camera-worthy colonial monuments. If you’re looking for Havana in a nutshell, this is the trip for you. Your day starts in the modern quarter where sights like El Capitolio – the bigger, younger sister of the White House in America’s Washington DC, and the Malecon – the city’s famous seafront promenade await. You’ll also see Plaza de la Revolución, Revolution Square, where Fidel Castro famously addressed millions of Cubans. Then it’s on to a cigar shop, of course cigars have been synonymous with Cuba for many years now. From here you’ll head to a Cuban rum factory for a quick tour and tasting before setting off on a guided walking tour of Havana Old Town, Habana Vieja. This UNESCO-protected part of town is all faded Spanish mansions and plazas lined with grand old churches.

Panama Canal Tour - Colon The Panama Canal is one of the world’s greatest feats of engineering. Connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, the construction of this 80 kilometrelong waterway claimed over 20,000 lives – a clue to the monumental scale of the task. On this tour you’ll head inland and board a ferry, which will carry you along the canal. Complete with comfortable seating and open decks, it’s perfect for watching the passing scenery. You’ll start by sailing through the Gaillard Cut, the part of the canal that crosses the Continental divide and presented the biggest challenge during construction. Then, enjoy the views as you pass through the three giant locks, each of which uses 197 million litres of water to operate. After crossing Miraflores Lake, you’ll then sail under the famous Bridge of the Americas out into the Pacific. Back on dry land, a bus will then return you to ship. Lunch on the ferry is included in the trip. This is just one of the excursions available. To see what else is in store, visit cruiseexcursions.thomson.co.uk

Kohunlich & Dzibanche Mayan Ruins Combo - Costa Maya If you fancy yourself as a bit of an Indiana Jones, a visit to these 4th-century ruins is a must. Thanks to their tucked-away setting, they’re off the main tourist trail and have a really mysterious vibe as a result. Your day starts off in air-conditioned comfort, with a coach drive to the onetime capital city of Dzibanche. Here, you’ll climb the tallest pyramid to take in the magnificent views of the site. Next up, follow the maze of jungle paths to explore a series of ruined temples. You’ll get a real sense of what life was like hundreds of years ago. Then it’s on to Kohunlich. This recently-excavated site is a real diamond in the rough. It’s framed by chunky palm trees and boasts a series of carved masks depicting those who ruled the area back in the 4th century. You’ll get to climb the highest temple here, too. It’s a fantastic viewpoint to spot some of the eye-catching tropical birds who live in these parts.

Here, you’ll have some free time to stop for refreshments, meet the locals and explore the snow-white sands. Lastly, you’ll head up to the highest point on the island – a lookout that offers up the best panoramas around. On the way back to port you’ll have a chance to buy locally-made cigars and handicrafts. Seashells, cut stone and beaded jewellery top the take-home list. This is just one of the excursions available. To see what else is in store, visit cruiseexcursions.thomson.co.uk

Road Town, British Virgin Islands

North Shore & Pusser's Landing Road Town Step aboard an open-air bus for a coast-to-coast tour of Tortola. Things get going with a drive through the island’s capital city, Road Town. From there, you’ll head inland to Sage Mountain National Park. Have your camera at the ready – this place is home to the highest point in the British Virgin Islands, so the views are nothing short of spectacular. Next, you’ll be taken to the north coast, where the charming little fishing villages of Carrot Bay, Apple Bay and Cappoon’s Bay are waiting to be explored. Later, you’ll make your way to the west of the island, where you’ll call in at Pusser’s Landing. With its ice-cream-coloured houses and emerald-green backdrop, this pretty harbour is the ultimate Caribbean stereotype. You can spend a bit of time browsing the shops here, or stop for a bite to eat in the popular restaurant. This is just one of the excursions available. St Kitts Scenic Railway - Basseterre Get to know St Kitts on this train and bus extravaganza. First up is a ride on the island’s Scenic Railway. The railroad was built almost a century ago to carry sugar canes from the fields to the sugar mill in Basseterre. These days, the double-decker trains are just a nice way of seeing the island. Take a seat for some great views as you chug past the sprawling fields, volcanic peaks and leafy forests of the north coast. On the lower level deck there will be music from the Scenic Railway Choir. The second part of your tour sees you board a tour bus for a drive along the south coast. Important landmarks lie around every corner here. Look out for the Brimstone Hill Fortress, Middle Island – once home to Thomas Jefferson’s great-grandfather – and neighbouring Nevis, birthplace of the first Secretary of the US Treasury. This is just one of the excursions available. To see what else is in store, visit cruiseexcursions.thomson.co.uk

Pitons Cruise - Castries When it comes to natural beauties, St Lucia’s in a league of its own. This trip takes you on a tour of some of the island’s best bits from the comfort of a catamaran. Setting off from Castries, you’ll glide along the island’s west coast, passing mangrove-lined beaches and lush forests. And then it’s time for the star of the show. As you enter Soufriere bay, the twin mountains of Petit and Gros Piton will rise out of the sea before you. Topping over 2,000 feet each, their summits have only been tackled by the most daring of climbers. We’ll circle the bay for some great photo opportunities, before heading to one of the scenic bays along the coast. We’ll make a quick stop, and you’ll be served snacks, drinks and get the chance to dive into the Caribbean Sea for a quick swim. Last up is Marigot, the most famous cove on the island. This was a favourite battleground of the English and French back in the 18th century. This is just one of the excursions available. To see what else is in store, visit cruiseexcursions.thomson.co.uk

Heart of Fuerteventura - Puerto del Rosario This half-day trip showcases the history and culture of Fuerteventura. Your tour starts as you drive through the island’s flat, volcanic landscape on your way to La Alcogida Ecomuseum. This open-air spot features working recreations of stone farmhouses. It shows how potters used to work at their wheels and farmers cared for their livestock amid the arid landscapes. Watch bread, cheese and Fuerteventura’s sweet honey rum being made, and get the chance to taste some of the goods for yourself. Next up is Casa Santa Maria, a museum of Canarian art, for a multi-vision show on Fuerteventura by land and sea. It’s a dazzling cinematic experience charting the island’s geology, flora, fauna and marine life through the seasons. Later, you’ll head to an aloe vera farm for a guided tour that tells you all about this healing plant. It’s been harvested on the island for its medicinal and cosmetic properties for centuries. Souk & Fantasia - Agadir There’s a lot to see in the buzzing city of Agadir, on this tour things kick off with a coach ride up to the Agadir Kasbah, a Medieval hilltop fortress that was built by the Berbers in 1540. Because of an earthquake in 1960, all that remains today are the rose-blushed walls and the castle’s sturdy entrance, but the views are intact. From here, you’ll head off to see Fantasia, a Moroccan show designed for tourists featuring Berber Horsemen, tumblers, acrobats, musicians and snake charmers. Finally, you’ll head off to a souk where stalls creak under the weight of take-home temptations. From handwoven rugs to baskets made from palms, ornate hookahs to gilt coffee pots, you can buy anything and everything here. As you make your way through the market, remember to haggle with the merchants to pick up some great bargains.

Fire Mountain - Arrecife If there’s one place you HAVE to go in Lanzarote, it’s Timanfaya National Park. Born out of fiery volcanic eruptions, this corner of Lanzarote is all craters, calderas and cones. Drive through the barren landscape taking in the luna-like scenery and stop to see local guides perform amazing volcanic experiments. They’ll turn brushwood into fire and cups of water into steaming geysers. You can even take a camel ride through the scorched valleys and across the crater’s edge. Leaving Timanfaya behind, pay a visit to the vineyards of La Geria where you can try – and buy – the local tipples before heading back to the ship.
