Brits are renowned for finding many things to complain about (mainly the weather.) However, being situated in the corner of arguably the most fashionablecontinent on the planet, a stone’s throw away from a number of the world’s capitals of culture it would seem that we have actually not very much to complain about at all…

With

budget holiday companies such as Jet2 and Easy Jet offering flights to destinations all over Europe for less than £100 return, what excuse to do we have to be moaning! In this issue we have decided to head North,

Copenhagen

Let us introduce you to Copenhagen. You might of heard of it, somewhere in between high school geography lessons (as the capital of Denmark) and the pages of Vogue recently-Give it a couple of years and Copenhagen Fashion Week will definitely be a date for the fashion calendar!

Excitingly innovative, remarkably laidback and painstakingly cool (and we're not talking about the temperature.) Denmark was recently voted the happiest Nation in the world according to the 2013 World Happiness Report, and it would only take one short visit to Copenhagen to show you why this water enclosed city has also just been named the most liveable city in the world, according to Monocle magazine... Tempted yet?

14

Soak Up Culture

The

Whether visiting in winter or summer, water runs at the heart of this city with the waterfront never more than 15 minutes away, no matter where in Copenhagen you may be. Harbours surround the city whilst canals and the so called 'Lakes' are spread throughout, their natural purity contrasting the urban landscapes. In the summer take a dip in one of the beautifully clear harbour baths; no water pollution in sight in this eco city, before settling back to sip a cocktail harbour side soaking up some rays. For the more active of you an array of watersports are available down at the harbour, from kayaking to jet skiing, there is days' worth of entertainment to be had, provided by the city's most natural element. In the winter when the water freezes the locals can be seen taking shortcuts across the frozen harbour, whilst many just venture onto the ice to capture views of the city which are inaccessible throughout the majority of the year. At Langelinje Pier sits one of Copenhagen's most well known tourist attractions 'The Little Mermaid,' the bronze princess turned 100 years old in August 2013 and is said to greet tourists into the Copenhagen Harbour. Tivoli Gardens is a wonderland in the heart of the city, a must visit for all, it's important to inject a bit of magic into your trip. Attractions, live music, fireworks and food, at Tivoli they go all out to ensure that you loseyourself in your surroundings, even if just for a few hours.

The beautiful Amalienborg Palace is definitely worth a visit, the Danish architectural masterpiece is the main home of the Queen of Denmark, so visit at 12.00 to catch the changing of the guards or steer clear at this time if you're hoping to avoid the crowds! Looking to engross yourself in a bit of culture? The ARKEN Museum of Modern Art is the most popular art museum in Copenhagen, showcasing mostly upcoming artists, however in 2011 was generous enough to receive a large collection of Damien Hirst piece's which definitely improved the reputation of the gallery.

Shop

Copenhagen is only just starting to make a name for itself on the fashion scene with its effortlessly cool style with an edge becoming a coveted look internationally. New designers just as Barbara Igongini and Peter Jensen coming out of the city are bringing a respect from the fashion industry that is hard to gain with their avant garde looks. Storm,

An eco friendly hotel, therefore there are bikes to rent from reception. Located right in the centre of town all the main attractions of Copenhagen are right on your doorstep. Andersen Boutique Hotel, Helgolandsgade 12 (From ÂŁ136 per night,) worth every penny. Stunningly stylish and perfectly in keeping with Copenhagen's attitude. This hotel is a gem in the centre of the hip Vesterbro District. (From ÂŁ159 per night) This ultra modern, designer hotel is clearly the most architecturally adventurous which is reflected in the price. Aim for a room as high as possible to take advantage of the stunning city views. Sharjah

Before travelling to Sharjah it is important to understand the emirate’s customsand cultural values. Alike it’s fellow emirates; Sharjah descends from a rich traditional and religious background which has shaped the emirate we see today.

Sharjah however, differs from the likes of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, as the tourist trade has developed over the past years they have relaxed their traditional views in order to progress in the ever changing world we live in. Sharjah hasn't taken such a liberal attitude and remains rooted in its values, resulting in strong rules and regulations tourist must adhere to when travelling to the emirate. This all sounds rather worrying, and perhaps a little frightening, not to worry though, we have done all the hard work and can provide you with all the essential 'need to knows' where Sharjah is concerned. Read on for all the best bits!

What they’re wearing 36

As religion plays a very important role in Sharjah life, it undoubtedly influences the national attire of the emirate. Sharjah women will generally be found wearing the traditional form of Islamic dress which has been developed to suit the climate and

lifestyle whilst abiding to comfort needs and modesty. The abaya is a robe like dress which covers the entire body, it was traditionally black and simple but is now available richly decorated, embellished in sequins, crystals and embroidery. In addition to the abaya, some women choose to wear the sheyla, a light chiffon scarf worn over the head, which can then be worn with the burqa to fully complete to look, which is the traditional mask that covers the brown, cheekbones and nose. The rationale behind their national dress comes from the Islamic background where it states in the Qur'an that all wives, daughters and believing women are to cover themselves, meaning they will come to no harm. The Islamic population follow this, resulting in the female population concealing their appearance in public from males, unrelated by blood or marriage. It isn't expected that tourists follow the same dress code as the locals; don't stress, you're not going to have to go out and buy an entire new wardrobe! Nevertheless, it is anticipated that they have the courtesy to dress conservatively as a sign of respect to the culture and religion of Sharjah. However, don't be afraid to go out and purchase yourself a fancy abaya if youreally want to indulge yourself into the ways of the emirates, even conceal yourself under the burqa and experience the anonymity it brings!

What

To

Wear

The United Arab Emirates is known as a whole for its all year round high temperatures due to its desert climate, which in combination with their conservative views on revealing the body makes it rather difficult to know what exactly to wear! In order to determine this, it is essential to thoroughly understands what is acceptable and what certainly is not!

Rule one: show as little flesh as possible! Avoid clothing which exposes the back, stomach, cleavage, tops of arms, legs above the knees.

with the option of enjoying their gorgeous outdoor lounge and table area. But most importantly the food is impressive, well presented and reasonably priced!

Rule two: No transparent clothing!

Saravanaa Bhavan Al Nahda

Rule three: Nothing that describes the body, i.e. no tight, extremely fitted, figure hugging clothes!

A restaurant oozing with southern and northern Indian cuisine, with prices slightly higher than its competitors but definitely worth the extra! Open bright and early from 7.30 am to 11pm, they offer a breakfast, lunch and dinner service to cater to your every food need! They are renowned for their extreme cleanliness, great taste and superb service.

Rule four: No clothes brandishing offence language or slogans. Of course everyone must be wondering what the regulations for attending the beach is, do you have to sunbathe and swim fully clothed? Fear not, swimwear is accepted on beaches or around pools; however this doesn't go for teeny tiny bikinis! Swimwear must be conservative and ensure you change out of your swimwear before stepping foot of the beach as it is not permitted elsewhere. You have been warned!

WHERE TO EAT

Dwarka Vegetarian Restaurant,Abu Shagara This is definitely the place to visit for the vegetarians out there who love their food and are looking for great food at low prices! It's even worth a try for those cynics as this place will definitely open your eyes to the variety of vegetarian cuisine!

Kati’s Restaurant, Al Khan Street Kati's restaurant is a no frills, small family run restaurant, serving greathomemade Indian and Chinese cuisine with warm service and a homely essence. Upon ordering, you are able to adjust the flavours and spices of your dish according to your own tastes, providing a personal dining experience! Sindh Shahbaz Restaurant, Road

17

A highly recommended restaurant serving the highest quality Pakistani, Afghani, Indian and Arabian cuisine. Open twelve till twelve, be sure to pay Sindh Shahbaz a visit and experience its stunning ambience

The Emirates Palace Hotel is the perfect place to stay to experience authentic Arabian hospitality where nothing is ever too much for the staff. Situated in a perfect location, just two minutes from Downtown Sharjah and the major shopping centre, with Dubai being only a short fifteen minutes away as well!

Where To Shop

The Central Souk, Khaled Lagoon, King Faisal Road

38

The first modern shopping centre of Sharjah, The Central Souk, Khaled Lagoon is an absolute shopping must whilst in Sharjah! Open since 1979, it is the most famous souk in Sharjah with more than 600 shops which are split between two levels. Souk Al Bahar, Al Corniche Street.

However if you are looking for a more authentic shopping experience then Souk Al Bahar is the destination for you, having previously traded in clothes and gold in the past. The old market expresses the originality of the town, allowing you to stroll amongst the waterfront and weave between the shops offering spices and herbs, henna, clothing and textiles, perfumes and oils, palm leaf baskets, Sheesha and flavoured tobaccos. Arabic style clothing and accessories are also available in larger shops as are ladies tailors specialising in national bridal and beaded clothes. Souk Al Bahar provides an authentic ambience with attractive photograph opportunities. Anchor Stores, City Centre The anchor stores in Sharjah city centre is comprised of stores you are probably more familiar with, including the likes of H&M, New Look and Toys R Us. Head here to experience a more familiar culture and pick up a few last minute holiday essentials.

Where To Party

If you're looking for a night full of alcohol and partying until the sunrises unfortunately Sharjah isn't the place for you! Sharjah is still a 'dry emirate', meaning that the sale or possession of alcohol within Sharjah is forbidden! Therefore there are no nightclubs or pubs, even restaurants aren't permitted to sell alcohol to accompany your meal! If you do fancy a bit of a boogie then Dubai is only a fifty minute taxi ride away and comes with and abundance of nightclubs and the alcohol is in full flow! However if you are looking for a relaxing evening then head to the Khaled Lagoon and hop aboard one of their night cruises, perfect for a romantic evening or to take in the stunning sights of Sharjah by moonlight.

What To Do Al

Noor

Mosque

Sharjah is full of cultural experiences and with religion playing such a crucial role in the local's lives, it seems only fitting to pay a visit to the Al Noor Mosque and consume their lifestyle. The Al Noor Mosque was built in 2003 and lies along the Buheirah Corniche and Khaled Lagoon. The mosque has set visiting hours for non Muslims which feature guided tours allowing visitors to gain a comprehensive understanding of the mosque and its features. The

Heart

of

Sharjah

The Heart of Sharjah is an interesting experience; it is a constellation of preserved heritage buildings, bazars and alleyways, converted into unique cafes, shops and museums, oozing with authentic culture. Magic Planet, Sharjah City Centre Magic planet offers an alternative to exploring the cultural side of Sharjah with rides and arcade consoles to entertain your fun seeking, potentially slightly childish side, that's just looking to have a bit of careless fun.

Maraya Art Centre, Al Qasba The Maraya Art Centre is one of the United Arab Emirates most spectacular venues for contemporary visual arts and the perfect place for visitors to go and get their creative juices flowing! The centre offers lectures led by featured artists, the option to enrol onto special workshops or join daily tours of the three main levels, all of which are available to the public. Al Majaz Park Al Majaz Park is a modern public garden located close to Khaled Lagoon and constantly open to the public. It is the perfect place to go and enjoy a relaxing picnic in the sun and enjoy a lazy day, taking in some serious people watching as the park is extremely popular. By

If you’re the kind of person who gets bored of being in one place then we have a guide for you to explore parts of the world. Ever wanted to go backpacking but scared you will miss home too much to go for so long? Then we have the solution. Why

not try Interrailing? Island Hopping? Want to go to the latest party spot?

Ibizas too ‘known’ for you then read on and open your mind to an endless world of discovery.

63

Europe has hidden gems all over, and what better way to explore it than joining on the latest way to travel independently;Inter Railing. However as fun and adventurous as it is, unfortunatley we hear of young travellers going missing or even finding themselves in dangerous situations. So is it really worth putting yourself in danger to experience Europe via weeks of inter railing? At prices for us young'uns for a months pass at just ÂŁ392 it's no wonder its becoming more popular go backpacking across Europe. But everyone knows this comes with risks. You read stories online about young people going missing whilst travelling and this can put some people off participating in this un missable experience of a lifetime.

64

What Are The Dangers? We spoke to a group of girls who have recently been inter railing and asked them what they believe the dangers are of inter railing. It was apparent that as long as you stick together as a group and act socially aware there are no real dangers of inter railing in comparison to the dangers of everyday life. The only fears they had when they were travelling were similar to fears of like in the UK, such as being mugged, experiencing a theft, running out of money andbeing stranded. The only time the girls said they felt they could possibly end up in danger is when they were in Paris and a man was sexually exposing himself and gesturing to the girls, they however ignored this and just walked away from the situation. As long as you use your head and don't react in an unsafe way such as shouting and screaming every situation is easy to calm down and make safe ; Just be socially aware. Don't approach peope who are acting suspicious or just plain odd.

Inter Railing

Is It Worth The Money ?

Our Advice Whether you're travelling alone or in a group we have some advice about how to stay safe whilst inter railing. 1.Make sure you are contactable at all times. Make sure you have a mobile phone that is charged and has funds on. 2.Don’t go off with strangers alone. Obviously everyone is going to be social able and make international friends but make sure that you don’t go anywhere on your own with someone you have just met. 3. Make sure your valuables are safely secure and not on show. You don’t want to be a walking advertisement for being mugged. 4. Always have a meeting point in new places. Just in case you somehow get separated or lost make sure you have a point where you can go to.

MOST DEFINATLEY! The fun thing with inter railing is you can pretty much jump on any train in such short notice and go somewhere new fast! You meet characters who you wouldn'tusually associate yourself will in normal life. People from other sides of the world and experience there cultures and share memories with people that will always stay with you no matter where you are. Eating out can also be cheap in Europe as most places do dishes on offers such as pizza and pasta at £8 not bad! You can create a whole new wardrobe for yourself too, it is recommended to just take a few staple outfits and then build them up buying clothes from the local markets, create new cultural traveller looks! Inter rail passes also include either free or discounted ferry travel so as well as travelling on high speed rail you can mix it up and travel across the sea! You will actually see the countryside aswell as you sit back and enjoy the journey to the next exciting city for you to discover! Save up your pennys and get ready to see Europe how you have never seen it before!!! By

5. Plan your trip well. M a k e sure you have ideas of hostels where you can stay in each city and know what time the trains are otherwise you could end up wasting time or even having know to rest. 6. Always make sure you carry cash as well as card and have emergency money available. Just in case unfortunately something does go wrong.

Island Hopping

Why relax on just one ancient Greek island when there are so many different ones offering completely different experiences! Whether you’re into your partying, your food, your shopping or even your ancient history, the Greek Islands are the perfect place to jump from one island to the other to get a different holiday experience every day! We did an interview with Charlotte who’s just got back from island hopping with her Boyfriend.

68

What made you want to go island hopping? I really want to go travelling but I don't have the funds to do the whole around the world trip and I don't have the patience to save up right now so I had heard of people just travelling around the Greek islands; that way I can travel around a little bit of the world for a small price but gain such a life experience. I could still have the feel of a chilled out holiday as there is so many beaches but still be on a travelling on holiday too! What islands did you visit on your trip? I went started in Greece then went onto Rhodes, Paros, Corfu and ended the trip in Crete. How did you find organising it? It was really time consuming organising the trip. I could of easily booked it already done for me online but I didn't want to end up visiting places that I have never heard of and wouldn't really appreciated my time spent there. Where did you find the flights when island hopping?

g

I used websites such as skyscanner.net, kayak. com etc. I managed to find cheap flights because I booked last minute which was really good. The plane journeys didn’t last long either so It worked out good value for money. How much did you spend on the actual accommodation and flights? £500 which I thought was really good. We just stayed in different B&Bs or sometimes i even stayed in a hostel in Athens. How much spending money did you take? I took about £800, but I don’t think you have to spend that much. What did you mainly spend your money on? I mainly spent my money on excursions and food really. I ate out for lunch and dinner every night so that was quite expensive but that’s what I wanted to do I could of saved money if I really wanted to but I wanted to eat locally in different towns and islands to see the variety of cuisine. How long did you Island Hop for? I Island hopped for 2 weeks. Did you think this was long enough? Yes this was long enough as it was getting exhausting travelling so frequent. Did you experience the Greek culture? Oh yeah completely I saw the old ancient ruins in Greece, I saw the famous white and blue buildings in Santorini. Did you experience the Greek culture? Oh yeah completely I saw the old ancient ruins in Greece, I saw the famous white and blue buildings in Santorini. What was your favourite island? Crete was my favourite island by far. Why? I went to Chania which is a cultural Greek town with the small alley ways hiding cute little bars. The beach was amazing as well. I spent a few days in Chania exploring the little villages then I went to the other side of the Island, Malia. Malia is more of a party town and I enjoyed the contrast of having a cultural sid to the island and then going to the more let loose, commercial side of the island. What places would you recommend to go to? I would definitely recommend going to Chania just because I had such an amazing experience there. I think Athens is a must as well they have nice markets where you can pick up some Greek 69 memorabilia.

What would you recommend to do? I would recommend to do paragliding an essential holiday must! Do this on any of the islands because you get a great view of the whole island. You get to see the greenery of the hills on the island as well as the miles of Beach and beautiful buildings. I would recommend the water park in corfu that was a great alternate to enjoying the beach and just sitting round a pool. In Chania I went to an animal sanctuary where I got to feed turtles, lizards and hold snakes but I would definitley recommend visiting the island of Elafonisi where the beaches are white and sandy and perfectly clear waters. What thing

was your you did?

favourite

My favourite part of the holiday was the cultural knowledge I gained. Like you would just think that all the islands are exactly the same yeah every Island has a party town but all the villages are completely different. I also really liked the whole dining experience, eating fresh lobster next to the sea lit by candle light was one of the most relaxing and memorable moment of my life. Would

you

do

it

again?

Yes definitely. All the Greek locals are really friendly and made you feel special where ever you went. What would you do differently? I would just visit different islands or visit different parts of the island really. I don't know actually I probably would do it all the same because I had such a good time. But for value for money I would just visit different areas I haven't been before. Do you anyone hop?

have any wanting

advice for to island

Make sure you double check your plane times as we sometimes had to wait around in the airport for flights when we could of spent more time exploring. By

However four years down the line; even though the medical buzz around the substance may have died down, it seems the beauty world is just catching on. A number of new products are hitting our shelves, naming the renowned honey as their key ingredient.

The Manuka Journey Manuka honey comes specifically from bees that produce their honey from the Manuka tree, a plant which grows naturally, only in remote corners of Australia and New Zealand! It is taking the beauty world by storm due to its natural anti inflammatory characteristics – think what this could do for puffy eyes or bad skin days and you'll see where we're going with this.

Added to your skincare regime the honey can be an effective treatment for spots due to the osmotic effect it creates, in English that means that along with being anti bacterial, it draws moisture to the area so that once the spot heals you won't have to deal with the annoying flaky stage which usually follows. Trilogy'snew Rosapene Night Cream, £28.50, lists Manuka honey amongst it's all natural ingredients and claims to revive, rehydrate and restore your complexion all whilst you

sleep what could be simpler?! The unique moisture lock in process created by the honey can not only work effectively in your skincare regime, but fits perfectly into your hair care regime, caring for those dry and damaged locks in miracle products on the market such as TOMMY GUNS Bergamot, Inula & Manuka honey conditioner, which promises to heal and protect colour treated hair, at just £5.50 a bottle we'll definitely be giving this one a try!

Multi Season Saviour No matter what the climate you can rely on this wonder product to be your beauty saviour. Obviously we always recommend a high factor sun cream as your first step toprotecting delicate skin from the sun. However, if it's too late for that, try applying just a thin layer of the sticky stuff, helping the redness to go down and speeding up the skin cell reparation process. You're probably best off trying this one indoors to avoid attracting unwanted insect attention!

When the cooler weather comes around try adding the sweet stuff to your diet along with your beauty regime. Just small amounts in your tea or on your toast can assist in preventing colds, with its antiseptic qualities helping to heal sore throats; natures very own cough medicine! We all struggle with chapped lips once the weather turns sour but why suffer when the perfect products are just a fingertip away! Lanolips, Lovely Lanolin Golden Ointment serves as the perfect lip conditioner on those cruel winter days, nourishing and soothing even the flakiest of lips; you'll wonder how you survived without this one. At £17.99 a tube it may seem a little pricey, but trust us you'll be worshipping the stuff once the arctic winds hit. It seems there is nothing that this natural marvel can't be used for! If there's not already at least one product on your dresser containing the sweet sensation, then we're sure that it won't be long until there is. With new wonder products hitting the market each season there's sure to be something suited to your needs close at hand. By
