MODELING The modeling of the scene was very simple. I prefer to use the program Sketchup because it is much easier compare to other programs, it is just a matter of time and it is very efficient. A lot of people may say that this program is not very capable, and they are right. It still has a lot of limitations but even for architectural visualization it is perfect.

Next we do a tour to where we want it to go, in this case the profile face with the tool “follow me. Select the face and hold it, move through the line.

For the windows I use the plugin “CD Drawtools, this plugin allows you to make different styles of windows with a single click.

The other elements in the scene are very easy therefore I wont go into details. We export the scene into .3d format so we can import it into 3dMax.

LIGHTING/ CAMERA Once we have imported our scene to the .3d format, I usually start by placing the cameras. In this scene I used a VRayPhysicalCamera because it is much easier to control.

The lighting is one of the most important parts and I try to spend more time on this step. The intension is to simulate a sunny day so I used VRaySun + VRayDomelight without any other light support. I like to put the VRay sun in orientations around 45 degrees and I try not to change its position. To control the lighting, I prefer using the VRayPhysicalCamera.

For the VRayDomelight I used the HDRI y EXR of Peter Guthrie. I highly recommend this HDRI. It is really good. I advise you to use it for outdoor scenes. It does very well. For more information about how to use this method you can check the website of Peter Guthrie. http://www.peterguthrie.net/blog/2010/04/vraysun-and-hdri-sky-tutorial/

Portraits: For the portraits, I didn’t add any kind of reflection or bump. It is just a vray material with diffuse map. The illustrations used to correspond to my friends from Trip Design: http://www.facebook.com/tripdiseno

Post-production Raw final image:

Usually on post-production, I edit the curves, levels and the balance color. Levels:

I add an orange layer with a 10 % opaque layer to give it a warmer touch. Blending mode: Screen

And finally, I add a dirty lens, because my intention was that the final rendering would not look as clean as we are accustomed. Blending mode: Screen
