Alan Kaye Pain Management Development - Shreveport Louisiana Alan Kaye Shreveport Pain management has developed from various medical and surgical advances. In ancient Greece and Rome, doctors used crude methods to treat pain, such as nerve cauterization and binding wounds with animal intestine. In the 18th century, 17th-century physician Thomas Jefferson developed a wound dressing made from animal intestine to manage his pain from injuries and surgery. In World War II, the techniques for managing pain were standardized so soldiers could tolerate injuries and recover.

Alan Kaye The early 20th century saw the introduction of chloroquin as a painkiller in the United States. This drug was first used in veterinary medicine and then researched to find a way to manage human pain as well. Doctors used needles to inject patients with chloroquin to reduce their pain. However, this method had side effects; it caused muscle spasms and was not considered very effective. Thus, the medical community sought an alternative in the 1930s that would minimize pain at minimal risk.
