A zoning plan for the extension of the southern edge of the city of Meitingen is acting as draft for the design of a comfortable middle-class home. Urban planning is part of the challenge as it is highly important that the building acts smoothe with the sorrunded ones.
Residential House + Granny Flat The most important aspect in terms of the design is however, the use of the right angle. The right angle is mandatory. So the Buidling is mainly composed of boxes.
5
“I tell you, It is easier to build a grand opera or a city center than to build a personal house. Alvar Aalto
6
The Right-Ankle
7
The concept is based on the use of simple modules to achive the highest possible harmonic facade. Two kinds of modules have been used, which are distinguished in their size and height, as there are the two heigh modules of the opening section and the twelve other modules of the rest of the building. Each of both kinds of Modules have the exact same measuerments. The opening is acting as a clear boundarie between the different term areas. On the first floor, the children are seperated from their parents, which comes in handy when they reach higher age. Working is seperated from living on the ground floor. If the office is used as a guestroom, guests can also have their quiet moments. The granny flat can be used completely independently, should there be the necessity to rent it.

A gab site has emerged in the Maxstrasse in the city of Augsburg, which is the most popular boulevard of the city. The street is full of clubs and cafes. The new client is demanding gastronomy as well. He is not very clear about what he really needs so it’s the architects job to find an adequate use for the new building.
The Fubu The external dimenson of the buiding are stricty set, so are the roof shape and the roof pitch. How many stories, how the facade will look like and what usage the building will have, is completely free to decide for the designer.
13
“Architecture is the stiffened music. Arthur Schopenhauer
14
Coffee, Sushi & Drinks The Fubu is combining a cafe one the ground flloor a bar, a club and lounge on the basement and a sushirestaurant on the upper floor all covered in a 3-story - 265 m2 building. The restaurant contains a running sushi installation and also´a little a la carte-area. A dumwbaiter is installed to link the main kitchen in the basement with the bar and the running sushi kitchen, since they are all placed one above the other. The dumpwaiter gurantees the employees with a comfortable exchange of food and beverages that reduces also waiting time for the guests.

A Kindergarten is place that forms young children. They spend a lot of time in place where they should develop a good relationship to the place and the builiding in order to feel comfortable. Children want to interact with their enviroment, Everything in life is an adventure for a Child.
Kindergarten Therefore the client insist on the absence of the right angle an makes it quite challenging for the architect but also as much more interesting for both, the designer and the children, the prospective users.

Safe & Sound
22
In order to make architecture for children, you have to go back to the time where you once was a child. Would i feel comfortable and excited ? Or would i feel uncomfortable and bored in the building. Only if the place is something, children have never seen before, it becomes an unknown adventure for children. The building provides a large foyer, which is also there to be used as an indoor playground area. The foyer expands the the group rooms in the south to an even bigger playing area. The group rooms are connected with a small patio. The patio acts as a changing room where children can change their shoes from outdoor to indoor to prevent the indoor rooms to get dirty or wet, espacially in wintertimes. The Dining room in the north offers the children an open kitchen where they come in touch with cooking. An extra deliverydoor in the norh, provides the kitchen comfortably with groceries withour taking the detour thorugh the foyer.

One week time to impress the client with a design of an small townhouse in Brookyn, New York City. The client insists on his new home to be cheap and modest.
Townhouse Brooklyn External measeurments of the building are given so the quite challenging task is to fit the room schedule in the permitted space.
Only ten hours of time are permitted for the follwing design. The object is, to learn how to deal with straight deadlines under pressure, if the client is impatient and needs quick results.
Townhouse Borneo The major challenge is the dealing with narrow spaces, as the length and width of the buidling are given. Narrow spaces are some kind of tradition in Amsterdam’s famous district Borneo which is located directly on the riverside of the north sea.
25
“Architecture is the art of how to waste space.” Philip Johnson

The most important aspect on projects like this, where space is a rare but the the room schedule must be satsified, is how to deal with the circulation. The circulation must be held at a minimum in order to find an adquate slot for every room. In this case, the staircase could only be arranged verticaly to the long layout. A side benefit of that is, that the specific term areas are usefuelly seperated. The balcony on the second floor enables a beautfull view of the nearby park.

The client, a dutch sculptor, needs an new place for his family and espacially a place with a studio in order to pursue his work. The generaous living room on the ground floor also acts as an exhibtion area of the clients work. The Building is located on the harbour area and the southside is surruonded with sea water. To make the water come alive, the entire south side is designed completely open with galeries on every floor. One of Amsterdam’s interesting featuers, are the quite scary breakneck stairs. An impressive steep staircase makes the circulation an interesting experience. 29

A new wine center in South Tyrol is to be formed at a given slope in the famous wine-growing region. There are several methods possible, how to deal with the challenging slope site. Directly on the slope, partly on the slope, cantilevered on the slope, mounted on pillars or hovering.
Wine Press House An impressive cantilever would suit the most, since it is important for the client, a famous vintner, to gurantee his guest a good lake at the nearby lake.
31
“Do you mean to tell me that you’re thinking seriously of building that way, when and if you are an architect?” “Yes.” “My dear fellow, who will let you?” “That’s not the point. The point is, who will stop me?” Ayn Rand, The Fountainhead

The stunning cantilever of the particular building measures 11 meters, which is pretty much the farest you can go within a massive construction like this one. To make the cantilever even more impressive, it is walkable and used as the balcony of the inlying cafe. The guests can sit there, enjoy a glass of wine and have a great view of the tail of the italian alps and the beautiful nearby lake. On the inside, guests enjoy an exhibition of geat wine on the groundfloor or take part on a guided tour throughout the busy, small winery on the basement.

A demanding project has been planned near the famous olympia stadium in Munich. Nothing less than the highest high-rise in Bavaria should rise in Munich. In about 200 meters a multiporpuse use is requested from the client.
Crystal Tower An hotel, an office and residential flats are to be designed. We only have a closer look at the hotel area but also on construction and the overall design of the tower.
37
“She referred to the high-rise as if it were some kind of huge animate presence, brooding over them and keeping a magisterial eye on the events taking place. J.G. Ballard, High-Rise
38
High-Rise Live. Work. Bed & Breakfast
39
40
The basic design of the high-rise is inspired by a crystal form. The edges have been cut off asymmetricly which brings along a nice side benefit. The cut-off edges reduce the windage and provide a better rigidity as a consequence. Thereby, the massive U-shaped core structure, which is primarily responsible for the sufficient rigidity, is significantly relieved. The most challenging problem however, are the utmost pillars. Since the pillars of the higher floors literally grasp at nothing when they reach the cut-off edges, an appropirate solution is needed. Massive “outrigger-columns, that come at a diameter of 2 meter maximum, are used the hang up the the affected coloums on large steel ropes, in order to channel the weight from the pillars through the outriggers into the ground. Three maintenance areas are installed to maintain the massive columns and also to increase the rigidity of the tower. The columns stick out of the tower at the top, so the impressive support structure can be seen from the streets.

Suitable for 5-Star Hotels Each of the 12 floors of the Hotelarea welcome you with a generous lobby with a bar and a fascinating atrium that allows a view to the beautiful nearby olympia park. Every floor provides a large area for the hotel staff, since you assume that for a single guest, the hotel needs to provide 1,2 employees to fit a 5-star standard. The particular size of the different hotelrooms are adjustet to the basic grid of the pillars. As a consequence of that, the smallest room is 40 m2 big. A size you would expect from a 5-star Hotel.

The bathroom of the superior room and the suite have a glasswall installed towards the exterior walls in order to flood the bathroom with natural light. The bigger rooms are not lacking this feature but, due to an expected higher amonut of people in the room, the glass can be switched to an opaque “alabaster glass to prevent inconvenient looks.

The small town of Mering calls for proposals for a new town center located in the heart of the town. On a very narrow property the tender stipulates a new library, a new day care center and a new assembly hall.
Bachelor Thesis : Community Center The most challenging aspect in terms of the design, is the slope of the property. The property has an altitude difference of 8 meters from east to west. In addittion to that, the distant spaces to the buildings in the neigbourhood must be observed. The demanding room schedule doesnt make it any easier for the designer.

Six building blocks have been used to react to the small building blocks in the neighborhood, on which two always are connected by a central circulation axis. The intention is to make en impression of six and not only three buildings. The central section not only acts as a vertical circulation in order to avoid long corridors, it also seperates the different term areas. Two wings extend from the central section and steadily increase towards the end faces, where they create attractive, high ceilings. Therefore, the building opens itself to its user, according to a human sight cone.
