“I love fantasy and creature illustration, so centering the poster around the gardens sounded like an exciting challenge. My inspiration came from imagining what type of life we’d find if we pushed the flower beds apart and peeked inside. The natural beauty of the Alaska State Fair helped me find the tone and tie it all together. It can be easy to miss the small details, so by shrinking the world view to a garden bed, I could highlight some of the more overlooked trinkets and draw them alongside our flowers, fresh berries, mushrooms, jams, lush green foliage, and everything else that embodies our incredible summers in Alaska. In the poster, you’ll find elements of the natural wonder of the Fair and our beautiful state with a whimsical twist. I chose to use energetic and vibrant colors to symbolize the lively spirit that the State Fair brings year after year. I’m beyond grateful to the Alaska State Fair for supporting local artists and giving me the opportunity to create the 2022 poster.”

We celebrate Alaska’s agriculture roots – and the importance of agriculture today – during Alaska Agriculture Day! Get all the fun you can handle for just three bucks on this special day! Admission to the Fair is only $3 between the hours of 11am and 2pm (you must be through the gate by 2pm). Stop by the Alaska Grown and Division of Agriculture booths to learn about the Nenana Totchaket Agricultural Project and Land Sale and other programs offered by the Division, and grab some Alaska Grown swag! There will be a milking parlor demonstration and ag games too. Today’s must-see event is the Second Annual “Tundra Chef Cook-off” from 11am-2pm in the events tent, featuring local celebrities who will battle it out on charcoal grills using Alaska Grown ingredients. During the Tundra Chef Cook-off, you can taste Alaska Grown specialty crops served by the Future Farmers of America and sample Alaska Grown products. Help us celebrate the 2022 Farm Family of the Year, thanks to Mat-Valley Federal Credit Union, and hear the announcement of the 2022 Division of Agriculture’s Friend of Farmers.
Today, the Alaska State Fair celebrates the health and wellness of all Alaskans! Learn about preventative care and enjoy healthy activities at Southcentral Foundation’s booth in Pioneer Plaza. Join Southcentral Foundation and learn how you can keep you and your family healthy! They squeal, they jump, they run! Don’t miss the first day of the Kenai Peninsula Racing Pigs, presented by Matanuska Valley Federal Credit Union, in the Channel 2 and CBS 5 Corral. You’ve seen them on TV, now come meet some of your favorite Ninja Warriors while learning new skills in the Eskimo Ninja Camp. Then compete in the Ninja Open Course Challenge to win prizes presented by University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) and Alaska Native Quarterly.
Energy fuels Alaska’s economy, and the activities and exhibits on this special day recognize the people and projects that keep this important industry moving forward. In an effort to help those facing challenging circumstances, please bring a donation of shelf-stable food items to Fair gates to share with Alaska’s food banks. Come to the Hobo Jim Tribute Jam at the Alaska USA Bluebonnet Stage and share a favorite Hobo Jim song or story. Ever wished you could play in a giant pile of bubbles? Now you can, at the FoamDudes Foam party in the Channel 2 and CBS 5 Corral. Then, come by the Plaza to help AOGA celebrate Energy Day, and get your photo taken in the free photo booth!
