The Amur Leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis) by Audrey
The Amur Leopard needs you or me We ought to be its shepherd, you see The Amur Leopard, unique and rare, Vanishing from earth, as if into thin air‌.. But soft fur coats that people want, Diminished the cat, because of the hunt.
Introduction : I chose to write about the Amur Leopard because its an important, strong animal. The Amur Leopard is very close to extinction. The Amur Leopard is one of the top endangered animals in the cat species. There are only about 35 Amur Leopards left in the wild. It’s an animal that is genetically adapted to extremely cold weather. If you would like to learn more, why don’t you hop on board and read the research that I’ve been doing. Name: Amur Leopard The Amur leopard has a unique name. Of course it is a leopard, but where did “ Amur” come from? I've never heard of the word Amur before, so that was why I was very confused. Fortunately, after doing some research, I found out that the “Amur” name was from the river that the Amur Leopard used to live around. Unfortunately, I also found out that it moved from that area due to threats to its population. The scientific name of the Amur Leopard is Panthera pardus orientalis . EAT EAT EAT: As I did my research, I learned that my animal is a true carnivore that has a big appetite. They eat deer, boar, and rodents. While I was looking, I saw many pictures of them eating the animals. From the information I got, and the pictures that I saw, I concluded that my animal has a big appetite. In fact, it is interesting to note that compared to how much they eat, which is a lot, most Amur leopards are very skinny. APPEARANCE: The males weigh between 70105 pounds. The females weigh between 5594 pounds. Their height is about 2 to 21/2 feet. They live 1015 years. Just like other leopards, they have amazing speed. For example, they can run 37 miles per hour. Now that is fast. The Amur Leopard is a species that has the unique look of a leopard. For example, the Amur Leopard has spots. Their skin color has a light and dark brown mixture. While I was looking through pictures of the Amur Leopard, I found many beautiful and handsome images of the side and front face of the leopard. The coat that keeps it warm is very thick. The thickness of the fur can be as much as 7 centimeters; from that, I understood that the clothing people wear from their coats will keep them very warm during the winter time.
Habitat: The Amur Leopard originally lived in the Amur River Basin. It also lived in the mountains of northeastern China and the Korean Peninsula. Due to hunters trying to kill the Amur Leopards, the leopards migrated to Russia. To be more specific, they have moved to the far east of Russia. The Amur leopards are able to live in those fiercely cold places due to its thick coat of fur, which is, as mentioned earlier, well adapted to the climate. This is also why people want the animals fur to make coats, one of the foremost reasons they are endangered. Threats: There are many possible ways that the Amur Leopard can be disappearing. For one, people are a huge threat, as mentioned above. While doing my research, I found a lot of evidence such as pictures and clothing made out of the animal. There were pictures where the dead animal was used as a carpet. I also found images of clothes made out of the animals skin and fur. Of course, some of the leopards die of old age, or are hurt by other animals. But my concern is that people are a great huge threat to the animal. That being said, I say we help and try to rescue this poor animal from dying out. Help: After hearing about the scary threats, I have realized that we need to help this poor animal from extinction. Here are some ways: ● First, we can try to leave this animal alone and make a restriction of hurting or killing the animal just as the way we are not allowed to hurt or harm the turtles. In other words, please stop touching or even trying to get close to the animal without permission. ● You can also help by donating to one of the animal funds, which I will show ● Another great thing you can do to help is to let the word out. Learn more and try to explain to others that do not know this information. There are many ways on saving these endangered animals, if you are the person that can reach out a hand, thank you. Thank you to people that were in this project and gave me help.
