Introduction Have you ever heard of a African Wild Dog? Well if not, it is a endangered cute dog that lives in the Savanna in the continent of Africa. The poor dogs are having to die because of their beautiful fur and people in Africa building more things. Please help save the African Wild Dog. They have not done anything wrong.
Appearance The African Wild Dog is known also as the cape hunting dog or the painted dog. The African Wild Dog only has four toes per foot unlike other dogs with five toes per foot. The Latin name for the African Wild Dog is Lycaon Pictus. There are patches of black, brown, yellow, red, and white on its body. Each animal has its unique coat pattern and some have more patterns than others. The African Wild Dog usually weighs between 55 to 70 pounds The dog can live from ten to twelve years of age. The African Wild Dog has been endangered for more than 20 years.
Habitat The African Wild Dog is mostly found where its prey is, in the Savanna of Africa. They can also be found in woodland areas of Africa. African Wild Dogs usually hunt for prey early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Their prey includes gazelles, antelopes, wildebeest calves, rats, and birds. They sometimes raid domestic livestock. Endangered because . . . This animal is endangered because hunters are using their fur as coats. Also, the human population is increasing, so we are building more roads and buildings in Africa that are taking up the African Wild Dog’s spaces to live. People also kill, poison, and hunt these dogs, because they prey on livestock.
Solution We, people, can help the African Wild Dogs by sharing the land with them and other animals that are endangered. We can also use counterfeit fur coats instead of real ones because either way we’ll still stay warm.
