01 Revitalising Barcelona’s Waterfront Site: Barcelona Year: 2022 Type: Master’s project in Urban Landscape Design / VIU

Located at the border between the seashore and the city, the project’s objective is to renaturalize a degraded area as part of larger-scale project that connects the entire coastline of the city. To achieve this, a dual strategy is proposed that aims to establish both transportation and ecological connectivity. On one hand, a linear approach will be taken along the coast to ensure connection with nearby green infrastructure and continuity of soft mobility. On the other hand, transversal union between the beach and the city will be strengthened through improvement of existing passages and the creation of a new bridge that directly connects the urban and coastal areas without barriers. Diversity of use and citizen participation is promoted by creating spaces at different scales to achieve balance between the everyday and the occasional, residents and tourists. Moreover, the overarching goal is to create a biodiverse ecosystem through sustainable measures, while ensuring the area’s resilience to future climate change impacts.

02 Regenerating Urban Life

in a suburban community in Milan. Site: Milan Year: 2016 Type: Master's Thesis / UPM The project intervenes in a degraded residential development in the outskirts of Milan, located in the South Milan Agricultural Park (PASM), and built without any connection to its surroundings. The proposal carries out a transformation on two scales to improve both the development and its environment. At the regional level, the aim is to include the proposal in PASM projects that promote agrotourism as an opportunity for sustainable local economic development in the valley. At an urban level, a Vperimeter intervention is proposed, seeking to integrate the development into the urban and agricultural fabric. To achieve that, the project adapts differently its structure and uses in each part of the perimeter depending on the surrounding enviroment. The goal is to enhance the existing landscape, generate new activities and promote interaction between the local community and visitors, thus fostering sustainable and enriching development for all involved.

03 New Public Square in Almazán Site: Soria, Spain Year: 2017 Type: Contest / FEIXArquitectura - Honorable Mention

The square is strategically located in the area that connects the historic center and the town expansion. The construction of two platforms connected by a stair-ramp is proposed to comfortably overcome the 5-meter drop. The square is extended towards the adjacent streets through additional platforms that expand its space and reinforce its identity. In these, measures are implemented to reduce the speed of traffic.. With the aim of achieving harmony with the environment, the finishes of the square resemble those of the famous Plaza Mayor de Almazán. The upper platform will serve as access to future residential buildings, in addition to offering panoramic views of historical points of the town. The lower platform, where weekly markets are held, has a ramp-stairway that functions as a grandstand and a large fountain that not only provides drinking water, but also a space to play. The new square stands out for two emblematic elements: the statue of Zarrón, a typical figure of local festivities, and an imposing elm tree that pays homage to the ancient Castilian tradition of planting an elm tree in the main square as a meeting place.

04 Medical-Educational Center “La Castalie” Site: Monthey, Switzerland Year: 2017 Type: Contest / FEIXArquitectura

The expansion of ‘La Castelie’ aimed to adapt its existing infrastructure to meet the growing needs of the residents. The proposal is based on seven residential buildings distributed according to zones for children and adults. The fragmented solution in various residential units allows for a more familiar scale integrated into the urban and lanscape context. As for the connections, a central boulevard is created to provide access to the residences, and secondary walkways that connect the gardens around the buildings are redefined. Regarding vegetation, fruit trees are proposed to help structure and provide a smaller scale to the space. For the choice of shrub and tree vegetation, the chromatic variety through the seasons, both flowers, fruits and leaves, was also taken into account. As for the pavement in the surroundings, nature-based solutions such as permeable pavements and filtering drains are used. Therefore, the objective of the project is to create buildings that are integrated into the existing complex, improve the quality of life for the users, and at the same time preserve and enhance the park.

05 Courtyard and access renovations Site: Madrid, Spain Year: 2018-2020 Type: Construction Documents / FEIXArquitectura

The project involves the renovation of a private courtyard in two residential blocks and the four main entrances to the apartments. The primary reasons for the renovation were two: firstly, to comply with accessibility regulations for the building entrances and courtyard access, and secondly, to address water leakage issues in the upper area of the courtyard, which had a garden area and ground-level skylights. Its poor condition resulted in water infiltration into the gymnasium located below. In the courtyard, the old pavement was replaced with a raised floor system using pedestals to facilitate maintenance. To maintain greenery in the space, two types of skylights were installed - some at ground level and others elevated, surrounded by planters. Aromatic and edible plants were chosen to create a pleasant and sensory atmosphere while also serving as a source of consumption for the residents. Accessibility was improved at all four entrances with the addition of ramps and appropriate handrails and lighting.

06 Institute of Legal Medicine of Galicia Site: Galicia, Spain Year: 2021 Type: Contest / FEIXArquitectura

The purpose of the building is to be recognizable in the city and fulfill its main function of providing technical assistance in the field of forensic medicine. The venue has two very different users: workers with a scientific activity, and on the other hand, a public in a difficult personal situation. This dichotomy requires the building to accompany the form with the function both in its exterior with the urban environment and in the interior use on its circulation. In structural terms, concrete and local stone are used in the semi-basement, as if it were a classical basement, while the rest of the building is built with a wooden structure and a zinc façade. The exterior garden is 2m below the level of the road, separated by a vegetated slope to protect it acoustically and for privacy. The flora is made up of autochthonous shrub and tree vegetation diverse in typology, colors and textures to provide a enjoyable experience. The project seeks to combine functionality with a distinctive design and provide a pleasant and private environment inside and outside.
