I have always looked for new ways in the design, denying the established values, the conventional, the forms of expression plus the balance, the unfinished, the unfinished, the elimination, the absence of intentionality

FALL·2012

Normally on the way to Comme Des Garçons show we’re given a tip, a clue, a key to understanding the show we are about to see.

s. Kawakubo was in a class of her own. The two elements SHAPE and COLOR were played to the max. The clothes were in curvy shapes but always on a flat plane so that a coat or jacket from the hide appeared knife-thin.

There was something cartoonish about the rigid and robotic way of the models. That removed any conection between them and the clothes. Shapes were stretched and distorted

It was an extraordinary show with plane paper dolls shapes and in it vivid colors. The clothes had hidden arms, they appeared at a powerful Funya Watanabe show. The arms were hold straight to the body in a later passage of raincoats. Those were absolutely new creations from a designer who would turn 70 this year.

FALL¡2012

Is about color and structured volume, often created out of that construction. While there was certaintly high theatrical and artistic value in each piece. The wool felt was a good technical choice for the floating two - dimensional shapes, but the design seeemed to disclaim design. If Karl Lagerfeld is the leading talk artist of fashion, Kawakubo is the Mona Lisa.

FALL¡2012

She insists that she’s not a feminist, and that her work has nothing to do with being a woman.

Her position is ambiguous; early in her career she embraced so much ideas.

As her works has matured, she has reached wholy different conclusions about what nourishes the active process.
