The Space In Between Nikka & Alba G. Corral The Space in Between, born in early 2009, is the meeting of two disciplines trying to establish a dialogue. Alba and Nikka met IDM soundscapes and abstract visual patchwork. They walked together, building internal sounds that add color to life. They visualize music and sonorize image. They walk through space narrative. Feeling comfortable between analog machines and aesthetic beats, they have pried their eyes off computer screens. Balance and chaos move through silence and black space. These two professional trajectories met in Barcelona, using intuition and improvisation to begin their narrative. In the “Sonar Complex” at Sonar Festival 2009, they hit the mark, flooding with electronic emotion at the “Convent dels Angels.” Nikka and Alba met at El Niu, a contemporary artistic space within Barcelona in 2006. They started collaborating on different projects around the city. It was not until 2009 that they created common space where they could both feel comfortable. For them, the learning process is one of their paths. They think that with the new fields of development the public needs to understand and use contemporary expressions to form themselves. Nikka teaches DJ skills and music production while Alba teaches visual programming. For them it is a responsibility to foment the audio-visual culture. They understand electronic music separated from the club scene and visuals separated from loops. Their performances are based on the sensorial emotions of form, sound, sensibility, and expression; and the generative power of abstract art with the strong personality of melancholic sound. They take good care of their performance space out of appreciation for responsibility and aesthetics, feeling comfortable at convents, churches, art galleries, and auditoriums. One of their objectives is to bring the public an audio-visual experience produced by machines transmitting emotions. “The Space In Between is the creative space that emerges when we get together. It is a fusion between abstract generative art and melancholic sounds. We both establish a dialogue between two different disciplines, exposing the audience to a cutting edge audiovisual and enriching experience.” AlphaVille Festival Booking, Press and Communication Pat Quinteiro pat@patcomunicaciones.com // +34 653791436

Individual Bio Nikka Nikka plays with sensations and with the interaction of the machines in their most pure state, creating each track while walks, skiping the sequences or anything that may intercede in the natural process of musical creation. It’s prety evident that she feels safe among machinery: she can express herself without the use of any subterfuge; she can whether build and destroy rhythms; or better she can create soundscapes that allow us to travel and suggest something at the same time. A strength supported by smashing atmospheres that makes it an inalienable project, filled up with twisted sounds and afflicted compositions that deliver a raw and melancholic message. But her tracks do not have at all the specif ic touch that might us think in unaddressed deserts of pristine futures; in an unknown but safe goal; in a clear idea made up of nightmares. In short, a musical work in which the artist gets melt with machinery to explore deeper in her own human being. A display of sensations that will touch everyone who listen to it. A stroll along the shades of multiple gazes. Nikka definitely leaves her own mark. http://bionikka.com http://www.mixcloud.com/bionikka http://www.soundcloud.com/nikka http://www.vimeo.com/bionikka

Alba G. Corral Alba G. Corral (Madrid, 1977), based in Barcelona‚uses code to create visual tools in real time, giving life to abstract digital landscape. She creates visual programming, generative art and live performances on LIVE CINEMA context and is linked to the teaching of visual code. Alba is also one of the organizers of the festival Femelek, which aims to encourage and promote the development of women in the world of creation and new technologies. Her work creates narratives that express sensitivity and taste for color. Improvisation in different realms such as digital sound and language become organic, abstract feelings, that take shape through programming code. She usually plays visuals with Stendhal Syndrome and Nikka (With the project The Space in Between). She also has collaborated with musicians of the Barcelona scene such as Miguel Marin (Arbol), Fibla, Iris Aneas, and the international scene such as Jon Hopkins, Lorn. She has performed at the Sonar Festival, Primavera Sound, LEV, etc.. http://www.albagcorral.com http://vimeo.com/albagcorra/videos

Melophase – Video – 2010 – For Alpha Ville Festival 2010

This encounter is created with cutting-edge real time processing computer graphics, each of the artists working live and artistically sparking off the other. By working in real-time, Corral is in control of what is about to be drawn with the graphics as they emerge and swell simultaneously to the rhythm, which dramatically builds and loops. Corral initially works in monochrome, each note evoking a white mist rising or a black ink-like swirl dancing across the screen. As the music settles into an atmospheric fnale, swashes of a deep scarlet colour seeps into the graphics – a distinctly theatrical motif to the cinematic audio. It is certainly a feast for both your eyes and ears. The fragility of this artistic exchange exposes the human experience behind digital arts, a harmony found in the disorder of human creation. Gold Thinkings Video

Video Description: Accumulation of thousands of points on a digital canvas. Given day I can find myself in a very particular and do something much lighter or much more loaded, much smaller or much larger than you normally would when working on something, I express in this all myself. All my pieces are like layers taken from a continuum with duration of my life.
