This camp will cover the most important skills and techniques it takes to be an all-star chef. Throughout the week, teams will compete in mini competitions that build confidence and encourage teamwork. Industry pros will help campers to discover and embrace natural talents to find their niche in the world of restaurants. Campers will learn the ins and outs of running a professional kitchen and dining room. They will work together to design their own pop-up restaurant concept, creating everything from scratch, from table decor to delectable dishes. Family members are even invited to attend the grand opening on Friday!

A camp for the vegetarian curious. We will learn how delicious and versatile vegetables can be, unearthing all the magic our plant allies have to offer us. Our unique project-based class is designed to allow young students to develop their creative storytelling or game designing abilities, and then gives them the opportunity to bring their ideas to life through using MIT’s block-based Scratch, and Python through Minecraft Educational. Students have a blast, and learn plenty of professional programming practices, like how to use binary operators, conditional statements, sequencing and commenting practices, and loops. Through this, we hope to expose them to programming in a creative, fun, and innovative way.

Minecraft isn't just the world's most popular game; it's also an excellent tool for teaching a wide array of subjects. Veteran Albany Middle School English teacher Abby Skrivan, MA, offers weeklong creative writing workshops for kids and early teens. Students join a fun, studentdirected writing community as they engage in all aspects of the writing process. Through a wide range of writing exercises, including cooperative games, observational writing, poetry, story writing and peer-editing, students will develop their writing voices. This unforgettable week will culminate in the production of a bound "literary journal." Morning and afternoon sessions available. SONGS DANCE PLAY LAUGH LEARN Music Together is the award-winning program that pioneered parent participation, early childhood music classes. We provide a true family music experience, as siblings can attend the mixed age classes together. Moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and best buddies are all invited to attend. This is an introductory course (12-sessions) to violin playing. No prior musical experience is required to join this class. Our experienced staff love to share the joy of violin playing with our new music students. This class meets four times a week. Rise to the challenge to build and program robots using the LEGO® Mindstorms EV3 system! Learn about mechanical and software design, loops, conditional statements, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Design and construct your robot to avoid obstacles, pick up and carry objects, and play sounds. Projects are structured so that students work in an open-ended, investigative environment while having fun.

Kids have enjoyed working with wood and learning how to use hand tools in Kids' Carpentry since 1982. Boys and girls are encouraged to develop problem-solving skills while building their own cool projects using applied math and fractions. The kids are also introduced to a wide range of woodworking hand tools, safety, and craftsmanship.

Friendship Kinder Camp

Come join us for Friendship Summer Camp for children entering 1st through 5th grades at Ocean View Park! Friendship Camp is an indoor/outdoor camp that engages, delights, and inspires children to have fun. Children will explore art, crafts, engineering, and science related activities. During the weekly camps there will be opportunities to go on walking field trips to local parks and to have a picnic & beach play at the Albany Bulb. All the activities presented to children will be child-directed to ensure that they use their creative minds.

Join our brand-new Kinder Camp for your children entering TK & Kindergarten! Kinder Camp is a half-day camp that incorporates indoor and outdoor play, and walking field trips to Memorial Park. Friendship Club 2022-2023 Friendship Club is an afterschool oasis where children are nurtured, respected, and create their own community within our walls. Our program philosophy is inquirybased and driven by the needs,interests, and conundrums of the child. Children are encouraged to make choices, take risks, and spend time to construct their own understandings. Activities are presented to children in an open-ended approach where there is no single outcome, emphasizing the process, not the product. Participants have the opportunity to play inside and outside along with having time for relaxation and homework. Friendship Club will run from August 15th 2022 to June 2nd 2023 and correspond with the AUSD Calendar for days off and vacations from school.

Friendship Camp Junior Counselors

Calling all Junior Counselors! Our Junior Counselor program offers teens, in 6th thru 11th grade the opportunity to give back to their community, gain valuable leadership experience, prepare for a future job, and be a mentor to younger children. Adult Classes Yoga with Viji A D U LT

In these 90-minute classes, students will learn a range of asanas (poses) and pranayamas (breathing techniques) that Viji has learned From some of India's best yoga teachers. She has included a few other easy immune system-boosting exercises that could be particularly useful in this time of a pandemic but are not a traditional part of yoga. The class includes the practice of meditation and guided relaxation. Viji has been teaching yoga in the US and in India for almost 30 years. She is certified in the Sivananda system but has taught other systems as well. She is also an acuyoga teacher, an acupressurist and a Buteyko breathing technique teacher. DATE

trained in cooking in Rayon, France. A native of Thailand, he began cultivating and cooking Thai food as a child, working alongside his mother and aunt in their successful restaurant and hotel. Come enjoy a nice group walk to various places around Albany led by local residents and nature lovers. With the benefits of vitamin D from the sun and cordial social exchange, come get active with us. Starting from the Albany Senior Center or pre-designated locations, the group is led to different locations within walking distance, while accompanied by guest speakers to spark up some conversations. Students read their own writings to the class for its criticism and evaluation. The teacher adds another voice, pointing out basic principles and approaches to effective non-fiction prose. The idea is to make our memoir writing as vivid and effective as it can be so that it will not be filed somewhere in the dark but will be read and re-read with enjoyment by children, grandchildren, and even by strangers yet unborn. No one is required to read out loud, or to withhold other kinds of writing, which are welcome. We try for a low-pressure, respectful atmosphere in which embarrassing events and deep emotions may be safely exposed.
