110 students were recognized as Dual Enrolled high school students who graduated with either an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, a diploma, or Technical Certificate of Credit. Two separate ceremonies took place at Albany Technical College (ATC) Thursday, April 21 at 9:00 a.m. and another at 3:00 p.m. honoring the Dual Enrollment graduates from Albany Technical College. hearing of their great success.”
With the Georgia Dual Enrollment program, all Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) colleges are seeing success, especially those who move on to fouryear universities to obtain higher levels of degrees. The goal is to highlight these students each academic year as well as encouraging other graduates who did not graduate with a degree to go ahead and take it to the next level of education and move
forward from a diploma to a degree or from a technical certificate of credit to a diploma. “The Georgia Dual Enrollment program is one of the finest programs available for high school students, and we encourage local area students, to talk to their parents, and take advantage of this state supported endeavor. Albany Technical College offers a chance to fast-track high school students into careers here locally,” said Dr. Anthony O. Parker, President of Albany Technical College.

KIERRA SPARKS
Albany Technical College welcomes a new Director of Financial Aid. Kierra Sparks has been hired as the new financial aid director at Albany Technical College. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Georgia Southwestern State University in 2015 and a Master of Public Administration from Georgia College & State University in 2020.
Prior to joining Albany Tech, Kierra worked at South Georgia Technical College in admissions. She began her financial aid journey in 2017 when she was promoted to Financial Aid Specialist. Kierra joined the team at Albany Technical College in February 2020 as the Assistant Director of Financial Aid. In the Assistant Director position, Kierra helped the financial aid director implement financial aid processes, ensured that federal regulations were adhered to, hosted financial aid workshops, assisted with training management duties, and provided supervision and guidance to financial aid staff.
Ms. Kierra Sparks commented, “I am humbled to serve as the Financial Aid Director for Albany Technical College. As the Assistant Director of Financial Aid, my skillset, knowledge, and passion for serving students has prepared me for a more demanding opportunity.”
MEET THE NEW ACCOUNTING INSTRUCTOR
HYEKYUNG “HANNAH” SEO
In December 2021, Hyekyung “Hannah” Seo came on board under the Business division as the new Program Chair/Instructor for Accounting at Albany Technical College. Mrs. Seo is new to Albany Technical College, but she is not new to the area. She has lived here for over 20 years.
She and her husband moved to the United States from South Korea to get his Ph.D. in chemistry about three decades ago, and they have resided in Leesburg for the past 20 years. While raising and educating two sons in the Albany region, Mrs. Seo continued her education in the hopes of becoming a professor, which had always been her ambition.
Mrs. Seo said, “I worked for five years in the accounts receivable department in the early 1990s, and it was there that I realized accounting was a good fit for me so, despite having a bachelor’s degree in Library & Information Science from Korea’s ChonNam National University, I pursued a master’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in accounting.” She graduated from Georgia Southwestern State University with an MBA in 2008 and then received her MAcc degree from Kennesaw University in 2015.
“While in graduate school, I served as a principal of Korean School of Columbus 2009- 2015 for six years. The Korean school in Columbus offers weekend sessions for pre-K to college students interested in learning the Korean language and culture. I redesigned the school’s curriculum and program, hired teachers, and handled business with the Korean General Consulate in Atlanta, as well as all other administrative matters,” stated Mrs. Seo.
Mrs. Seo taught accounting classes at Albany State University Cordele Center (previously Darton State College) for a year from 2015 to 2016 until ASU and Darton merged. That teaching experience provided her with both teaching and learning opportunities. “I’ve always wanted to teach again since it’s such a rewarding experience not only to see students improve and achieve their goals but also feeling like I’m continuously learning and growing as an instructor and a person,” said Mrs. Seo.
