The Alberta Beekeepers Education and Enhancement Program
We are pleased to share the details of the recently completed Alberta Beekeepers Education and Enhancement Program, a practical beekeeper toolkit that provides training and tutorials to empower beekeepers with husbandry and biosecurity best practices to protect individual beekeepers, regional biosecurity, and the Alberta beekeeping industry as a whole.
The project was led by Alberta Farm Animal Care (AFAC) with contributions from a range of expert panel members, including the ABC and the Tech Transfer Program.
The BEE Keeper Handbook has been designed for both apiary owners and their staff, and is available in both English and Spanish, making it a great education tool for all beekeepers and apiary workers.
In addition to the handbook, task lists have been developed detailing the different responsibilities that beekeepers must complete, such as winterizing hives. Each task list summarizes the equipment needed, appropriate steps, and refers the reader to additional information.
The program includes a series of 27 detailed videos that complement the handbook information.
