Born and raised in Albert Lea, I’m about ready to head off to college. I’ll be a senior at Albert Lea High School this fall, so the college search begins. I’m involved in Student Council, Link Crew, choir, orchestra and Youth in Government. This school year I’m excited to be one of three co-editors of the Ahlahasa. I’ve been figure skating for 14 years and skate with the Albert Lea Figure Skating Club. I also enjoy waterskiing, spending time with family and friends, photography and playing with my Chihuahua, Maya.
I have lived in Albert Lea most of my life. I’m overly obsessive about my grades but am very dedicated to everything I do. I am the vice president of the Albert Lea High School Student Council, and am an avid speech and mock trial team member. I participate in choir and theater. I am attempting to watch every Tom Hanks movie ever made with my best friend before I graduate because he’s such a great actor. I’ve danced at the Just For Kix dance studio for 10 years. I will be a junior at Albert Lea High School this fall.
Thank you! We would like to thank people who made our internship such a great experience. If we have worked with, interviewed or photographed you, you have made an impact on our experience at the Tribune great.

Eating right is essential for students on the go Dietitian Amy Pleimling gives students tips to healthy eating during the school year
1.
Eat breakfast. Kids who eat breakfast perform better in school and are less likely to be overweight. Breakfast is definitely the most important meal of the day.
2.
Follow the MyPlate. The MyPlate shows five food groups – fruits, veggies, grains, protein and dairy. Encourage kids to choose a food from at least three different food groups. An example of four different food groups at breakfast would be: a whole grain cereal with low-fat milk (drink the milk), a hard-boiled egg and 6 ounces of 100 percent orange juice.
3.
Pack a lunch your kids will love. It is one thing for parents to pack a lunch they know is healthy, but entirely another to pack a healthy lunch kids will actually eat! Teach them the healthy choices, but let them help grocery shop and put their lunches together.
4.
Include protein. It is
important to include a protein source at meal times for many reasons, but in school it can help kids feel fuller longer. Meat and fish work great packed with crackers or on bread, but remember beans, nuts and seeds are an excellent protein source as well. Have kids try sunflower butter if they are unable to bring nuts or peanut butter to school.
Hummus makes for a great lunch item as well.
5.
Be prepared for after-school snacks. Kids will be hungry after school. Stock your fridge and pantry with easy but healthy items they can grab. Things like fruit and pre-cut veggies, string cheese, yogurt and even oatmeal work well.

Laptop or tablet. A lot of classes are starting to incorporate the use of Internet more and more. Having a portable device will help to make getting homework done a breeze.
3. Highlighters and 4. Snacks and drinks. notecards. Studying for a big test? Use these as ways to write down and mark important sections.
5 study space necessities
Keep some water or juice and a few healthy snacks on hand when studying. It’s important to keep kids’ brains fueled.
5. A student’s favorite
tunes. Music can help keep students focused while working. If their favorite music is catchy and they find themselves singing along, try classical music instead.

Solutions for carrying school supplies 1. A book strap.
There’s nothing wrong with going a little oldschool style. Using a book strap can make it easier to hold many books, notebooks and papers at once.
2. Trapper
With a change in policies at Albert Lea High School this year, students will have to learn to adapt to a school day without backpacks 4. Fanny pack. This
Keepers. Remember those fabric zipup binders that everyone used in middle school? Looks like it’s time for those to make a comeback.
may sound a little silly, but being able to carry small items around the waist will make it easier when students have an armful of books to carry, too.
3. Pencil pouch. Use
a pencil pouch to carry a calculator, pens, pencils, phone and other things students need throughout the day. Either make one or buy a fun looking one. There are lots of options out there.
5. Binders. Similar
to the Trapper Keeper, but they don’t zip. Get two binders and organize the day into two sections so students only have to visit a locker once throughout the day.
