ALTERED MINESCAPES The Land of Sources

Located in Sierra Minera, Cartagena, Altered Minescapes is a project manifesto that approaches from a symbiotic and strong link perspective, the full Regeneration and Revitalization of a mining territory abandoned and sickened due to its neglect and poor treatment received after the full depletion of its resources. This problematic generates a toxic dynamic, expanding to the close ecosystems, like the Mar Menor, Cartagena’s Agriculture field or Santa Lucia’s Hospital, and infecting the inscribed villages inside the toxic scope.

Over this situation, the need to reconnect Sierra Minera with its Guests rises beyond its tacit purification, focusing the effort on enabling new relationships of coexistence that can revalue the landscape and its latent wealth, helping to strengthen and increase our emotional ties with it. Understanding that the problematic situation gives rise to a new contemporary post-mining reality

For this, a double investigation work has been carried out:

1. -The first one, focused on the interpretation of the territory and its pathology associated with mining infrastructures, called Wounds, places of action and necessary reinterpretation:

1.1 Mining pits -> Solar collectors and indicators of landscape health,Water extraction wells and Sanctuaries.

1.2 Mining deposits and Open pits mines -> Transformation in areas of landscape purification. Recovering the earth terraces shape with phytoremediation crops and purifying the lakes with cleaning water pool complexes.

1.3 Ruins and old mining laundries -> Greenhouses and laboratories for cannabis cultivation and medicinal R & D.

2. -The second one, finding the unifying antidote, Cánnabis Sativa, able to relate the healing of the landscape through the process of phytoremediation-hemp (industrial cannabis), with the users and patients themselves through the inhalation of cannabinoids- marihuana (medicinal cannabis) and whose suitability generates, by itself, more positive dynamics that improve and accelerate Regeneration:

2.1 Enable transversal synergies between the context and the individual that canalizes the emotion, empathy and sensitivity, by-products of health processes due to the consumption of cannabinoids, to generate new ways of contact and environmental cooperativity between human beings and landscape.

2.2 Biodiversity from the management of the waste produced by people, abundantly increased by the effect of appetite stimulation. Managed by solar organic digesters that attract earthworms, which also stock metals in their bodies, manage human organic waste and stabilize the structure of the land. To finally become the food of the Birds, building the beginning of the new Trophic cycle.

2.3 Recycling of the production in Cradle to Cradle cycles, enhanced by its enormous versatility to transform (obtaining Concrete, activated carbon filters, bioplastics, stronng fibers, soap...), from which raw material is obtained to construct the interventions.

2.4 VapeScape -Ecological transformation of the mining scene, exchanging pollution for environmental clean-up, Vapor vs Smoke. Product of the vaporization of therapeutic cannabinoids in sanctuaries and chimneys associated with greenhouses and ruins, reconstructing the water cycle through the humidity. The transformation of the landscape gives rise to atmospheric purification, replacing the extinct poisoning.

2.5 Steam mining scene reactivation reusing the native meandering chimneys for the cremation of the roots of the phytoremediating cannabis, putting the local heritage of Sierra Minera back in value..

2.6 Finally, the situation of helplessness suffered by cannabis itself sympathizes with the need of the territory to close its wounds, finding in mining landscapes a perfect place of political-social integration.

Found the tool and located the problem, other 3 relationships have been discovered that end up building the new post-mining scene. Exploiting as well as the land and its products harvested in the Mining cuttings and mining Deposits and greenhouses, the other three Latent Resources more present in the Sierra, also emphasized by mining activity and its pathologies developed in the landscape; Desertification-Sun, Fill up- Water, Shocking landscape experience -Emotion:

1.Stellar landscape and Energy Self-sufficiency of the landscape: The numerous constellation of mining wells (1302) is used to harvest solar energy capable of self-supplying all the regeneration and generate a surplus of public use. Its landscape omnipresence complements its use as indicators, informing about the constants of the landscape in real time and its activity. -Light communication through sensors.

2.Oasis constellation and Water Supply: The constellation of 276 water wells and sanctuaries nests and weaves the new paths of the landscape, taking advantage of the filing up of the pits. It reactivates the wheels of the extraction structures as pulleys and fuses with the territory due to biodegradation of its biodegradable crop platforms. - Physical communication by fusion of the oasis and customization of the curbs

3.Mining-therapeutic sanctuaries, places of healing, purification and emotional stimulation: As a synthesis of therapeutic synergy, the need arises to create new habitable spaces whose genesis obeys both the new linking reality of the environment and its mining legacy.
