top of all this, our dancers performed brilliantly in their production ‘Rise & Fall’, which featured a combination of professional and student Ourchoreography.danceprogram is one of the offerings we’re most proud of and I want to congratulate the students and our dance coordinators Holly Schneider and Merran Paice.
After two years of being online, live performances in front of real audiences are back at APC, and our families and community can’t get enough. I’ve seen for myself that student participation rates are high and audiences jammed into every space available.
The dance program is a great example of our philosophy of getting real professional artists into the college –
Make sure you go on to your favourite music streaming service to hear the professional studio recording of our musical 'Eden', and remember to get your tickets to our vaudeville night on Friday, 7 October. Vaudeville is an APC tradition and one of the most fun and enjoyable days in the school calendar.
There are so many amazing creative achievements to highlight. As our cover page shows, two of our year-12 students, Scarlet Christensen Barnes and Sofia Cofano, were chosen as Principal Vocalists for the Victorian State Schools Spectacular, which displays the talent of musical performers from across our fantastic state school system.
performances enable students to thrive by giving them the chance to perform their own original creative work – a philosophy that reaches into every part of the school.
The creation of our very own performing arts centre in the Gasworks Arts Park means that one day soon we will be able to host all our productions in our very own space. If you can contribute, details can be found in this newsletter.
Those of you lucky enough to see their performances at the APC musical concert earlier this term will know how talented they are.

03 PRINCIPAL'S SAY
APC's music concert 'All Together Now' was a stunning success.
If you didn’t attend the big event at John Cain Arena last Saturday, you will be able to see it on Channel Ten later this year.
Here are some great images of the show, at the Lawler Theatre, at Southbank arts complex. It was a terrific experience for our students to play at a professional venue.

The emphasis of the show was collaboration and celebrating the joy of playing music together.
Those who managed to get tickets saw an amazing show of talent and passion, including percussion groups, rock bands, jazz ensembles, choirs and more.

In mid-July, after a two-year performance hiatus, APC’s musical students and teachers presented our music concert ‘All Together Now’.
Some students from the last two years who missed out on being in the school concert due to Covid came back to perform and we are grateful to them.

PASSION RISES FROM THE STRUGGLES OF LOCKDOWN
This year the APC dance show, ‘Rise & Fall’, was held at the Lawler Theatre at Southbank. Students performed three magnificent shows on 4 and 5 August to audiences full of parents, family, Albert Park teachers and staff. Here is what some of our senior dancers had to say!

piece “Spheres” choreographed by myself, was intended to show how people always come back to the cohesive and welcoming dance community throughout all the ebbs and flows, struggles and highlights and the disruptions to our lives especially after the past few years.

The senior showcase was an amazing opportunity to display the skill, talent, commitment and hard work that the seniors have put into the APC dance community over the past 5 and 6 years. It consisted of various student choreographed solos, duets and group

These year 11 and 12 students have done an incredible job putting this showcase together in such a short amount of time and they should all be incredibly proud of themselves and their effort in leading the cast and putting this section together.
The first act, UN.DU.LATE, was by Melanie West, showing the movements of life and the ocean. Students were involved in sections of the choreography of these pieces drawing on their own personal experiences over the past few years during lockdown. As a dancer the piece taught me to balance and hold positions.
The second act was choreographed by Aimee Schollum. It explores the recurring cycles, patterns, and loops that occur in our lives. We enjoyed the flowy and organic movements we performed and found it challenging to perform the percussion sequence, involving no music and only the sounds created by our clapping in rhythms.
All dancers involved should be extremely proud of their hard work and dedication to putting on such a professional

The cast and band of our original musical, ‘Eden’, spent a week in the recording studio with producer Simon Moro in Term 2 creating a cast recording of excerpts from our show.
It’s been some time since big crowds have been able to watch our students at work live and we’re proud to report record attendance.
Thisout.has been an amazing achievement for the college and we want to thank not just the students for putting in so much time, energy and talent but all the staff involved in ‘Eden’ over the past two years.

Big thanks go to all APC’s music students and instrumental music staff and to the parents who encouraged the students to practise, practise, practise to produce such amazing music.
It’s been a long time coming but, finally, the soundtrack for Eden: An Original Musical has been released.

Five instrumental music concerts were held over consecutive evenings recently to display the great work of our Instrumental Music program.
Soloists, small groups and ensembles presented fantastic and varied musical events, including experienced performers and some students performing for the first time.
Now we’re proud to announce that the album has been released on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music! Check it

ALUMNI
It was a case of deja-vu for student teacher Su-Jin Chang recently when she walked into APC to begin her four-week placement as part of her Melbourne University Masters of Teaching program.

“I’d tell her to try and do her best because it’s an important time. It’s too easy to chill and not try so hard,” she said.

SU-JIN STEPS BACK IN TIME
With VCE exams brewing, what advice would Su-Jin give her younger self as she prepared for her VCE exams back in 2016?
The current student population was also much more diverse, she said. “When I came from New Zealand in Year 10, I was the only Korean student. It’s changed a lot since then.”
Su-Jin, who as a student loved art subjects, was particularly impressed by Studio 120. “Other schools don’t focus on art like this school does.”
Su-Jin was part of APC’s graduating class of 2016, so coming back to the college she knew so well was “a comfortable feeling”.
