Barcelona Photobloggers es un grupo de fotógrafos que usan internet como un medio para compartir sus trabajos e intereses. Desde su fundación, en 2006, el grupo ha organizado exposiciones, encuentros, salidas fotográficas, jornadas de debate, etc. La cara más visible del colectivo es el blog que funciona como una agenda de las actividades fotográficas de la ciudad y que enlaza a todos los photobloggers del área de Barcelona. Arrinconado abre una nueva etapa para Barcelona Photobloggers. El objetivo fue crear un proyecto colaborativo donde todos los miembros tuvieran la oportunidad de participar desde la definición hasta la producción con una organización horizontal que da como resultado una obra de autoría grupal y no un conjunto de autores en el mismo espacio. El camino que recorrieron durante este año y medio de trabajo supuso un reto, donde lo importante fue el proceso de creación en sí mismo, la experiencia reflexiva, el intercambio de ideas y de metodologías. Basada en el relato corto de Santiago Ambao, escogido por su calidad, su relación con la ciudad y la proximidad con el autor, Arrinconado es una fotonovela con tres protagonistas: Ismael, Nuria y la ciudad de Barcelona.
Barcelona Photobloggers is a group of photographers who use Internet as a medium for sharing their work and interests. Since its foundation in 2006, the group has organized exhibitions, meetings, photographic outings, debate sessions and more. The most visible aspect of the collective is the blog that functions as an agenda of the photographic activities of the city and connects all of the photographers from the Barcelona area. Project “Arrinconado” (Cornered) starts a new era for Barcelona Photobloggers. The objective was to create a collaborative project with a horizontal organization in which all of the members would have an opportunity to participate in every aspect of creation, from definition to production, and which would lead to a work authored by the group and not by a gathering of various authors in the same space. The path traveled during the year and a half of work presented a challenge, the most important part of which was the creative process itself, as well as the reflective experience and the exchange of ideas and methodologies. Based on the short story by Santiago Ambao, chosen for its quality, its relationship to the city and the authors’ close relationship with the group, “Cornered” is a photonovel with three main actors: Ismael, Nuria and the city of Barcelona.

Él se dijo que su sacrificio había valido la pena. – And what about the months that have five Sundays? – persisted Nuria. Ismael doubted for an instant. He was tempted by the idea of fighting for his favorite time of the week but figured that giving it up would be a test of love. She thanked him with the only smile of the afternoon. He told himself his sacrifice was worth it.
Así siguieron, durante horas, dividiendo calles, supermercados, panaderías, bares de cañas, parques, plazas, cines, librerías y bibliotecas. Por la noche habían concluido un minucioso programa de privaciones y pérdidas.
And so they continued for hours, dividing streets, supermarkets, bakeries, dive bars, parks, squares, movie theaters, book shops and libraries. By nighttime, they had finally concluded the scrupulous plan for deprivation and loss.

Haciendo Arrinconado La historia de una fotonovela El 7 de julio del 2009 fueron convocados los miembros de Barcelona Photobloggers, para ser los artífices de la tercera exposición colectiva en el Maremagnum de Barcelona. El proceso de creación se desarrolló siguiendo un impulso abierto y participativo en todas sus fases: definición, realización, post-producción, diseño expositivo y promoción; fortaleciendo la creación colaborativa y democrática. La primera etapa transcurrió en los foros de la comunidad, donde emergió la idea de trabajar sobre un relato corto. Después del brainstorming digital pasamos a las reuniones presenciales.
La reunión del 13 de septiembre fue acalorada. Parecía imposible llevar adelante un proyecto basado en una organización horizontal, lo que suponía entender la exposición como una obra colectiva y no como un conjunto de obras individuales. Los encuentros presenciales facilitan el debate, pero obligan a una disponibilidad de tiempo o movilidad que no todos podían asumir. Por eso decidimos trabajar apoyándonos en un blog/ podcast, donde todos pudieran saber de qué se hablaba en las reuniones y dar su opinión.
En el blog se resolvieron las ideas de colaboración y las propuestas de historias. El 10 de octubre se tomó la decisión de trabajar de forma colaborativa, así como la elección del relato corto “Arrinconado” de Santiago Ambao. Entramos en la tercera etapa: la creación del storyboard. En una serie de reuniones en bibliotecas y centros cívicos de la ciudad, la historia se convirtió en imágenes. Se acordó cada escena, se propusieron localizaciones, vestuario, estilos de post-producción y un método de trabajo para las sesiones fotográficas. Imaginamos a los personajes y buscamos actores que los pudieran interpretar, pero finalmente decidimos que dos fotógrafos del grupo fuesen también actores. El 20 de marzo del 2010 tuvimos nuestra primera sesión fotográfica iniciando la cuarta etapa. Algunas de las fotografías necesitaban localizaciones concretas: una librería, una pizzería, una casa, etc. Dani y su novia nos permitieron utilizar su piso con vistas a la Sagrada Familia; Angélica y Félix nos prestaron la sede de Casa Creativa para realizar otras de las fotos. Benjamín, además de ser actor, tuvo que soportar la invasión de los Barcelona Photobloggers durante muchos fines de semana. En la quinta etapa había que post-producir las fotos, valorando entre distintos estilos para que ganaran unidad y reforzaran el discurso narrativo. Al mismo tiempo decidimos cómo montar la exposición en el centro comercial y preparar todo el material para la impresión y el montaje. La sexta etapa fue la promoción on-line con vídeo, campaña en redes sociales y medios de comunicación tradicionales. Barcelona. noviembre 2010.
Making of Cornered The story of a photonovel On the 7th of July 2009 members of Barcelona Photobloggers were invited to participate in the third collective exhibition at Maremagnum in Barcelona. The creative process was based on the idea of open participation of all members in all of its facets, such as definition, realization, post-production, exhibition design and promotion, therefore strengthening collaborative and democratic creation. The first step took place in the community forums where the idea of working with a short story emerged. After some digital brainstorming ¨live¨ meetings started taking place.
The September 13th meeting got heated. It seemed impossible to go on with a project based on horizontal organization which involved seeing the exhibition as a collective work and not as a group show of individual authors. The meetings provoked debate but at the same time implied a certain level of dedication- time availability and mobility that not everybody could afford. Therefore it was decided to rely on a
blog/podcast which would allow everybody to stay informed about what was discussed at the meetings as well as express their opinion. In the blog, ideas for collaboration were resolved and story proposals were registered. On the 10th of October it was finally decided to work as group and Santiago Ambao´s short story Arrinconado (Cornered) was chosen as a basis. And so began the third stage of the process – creation of the storyboard. In a series of meetings in libraries and community centers of the city, the story turned into images. Each scene was agreed on, locations were proposed, as well as wardrobe, postproduction styles and a method of work for the photo-sessions. After imagining the characters and searching for appropriate actors, it was decided that two of the photographers of the group would also become actors. On the 20th of March 2010, the first photosession took place, starting the fourth stage.
Some of the photographs required specific locations – a book shop, a pizzeria, a house, etc. Dani and his girlfriend allowed us to use their apartment with the view of Sagrada Familia, Angelica and Felix let us borrow the headquarters of Casa Creativa in order to realize some of the other photos. Benjamin, besides being the main actor, had to put up with the invasion of Barcelona Photobloggers during many weekends. The fifth stage consisted of post-production of the photos, selecting the best style in order to gain unity and give force to the narrative. At the same time decisions were made about how to present the exhibition in the given space of the shopping center and materials were prepared for print. The sixth stage included the on-line promotion with a video, a campaign in the social networks as well as in the traditional mass media. Barcelona. November 2010.
