INTRODUCTION
WELCOME! I am tremendously thankful for the opportunity to welcome you to the third annual Philanthropreneurship Forum and to our growing community of people and organisations engaged in building a better world. We are truly honoured to be joined by a stellar lineup of cochairs, speakers and participants who have so generously offered their insight and their time to be with us and to participate in the conversation. I am personally indebted to the friendship and guidance of our co-chairs including His Excellency Dr. Wolfgang Schüssel, Professor Paul Brest, Paul Polman and Dr. Laura Tyson. Over the years, we have adopted different themes but remain committed to a singular aim – to shift philanthropy from its current traditional space to one where it is blended with entrepreneurialism, creativity and innovation to address three main areas - to create a bigger impact, to ensure sustainability and to deliver scalable ideas and solutions. This year, we are working on exploring Generation Impact: Harnessing the Power of Giving and seeing how different actors are moving the proverbial needle, delivering on the SDGs and shaping the future of the world. Confucius said: “If you think in terms of a year, plant a seed; if in terms of ten years, plant trees; if in terms of 100 years, teach the people”, and I believe that our Forum can be a space of teaching and of learning that will last 100 years and more. We hope you enjoy the day ahead and look forward to many more occasions for us all to convene once more. Amr Al-Dabbagh Founding Chairman Philanthropreneuship Forum

WHAT IS PHILANTHROPRENEURSHIP?
Philanthropreneurship is a creative and entrepreneurial approach to philanthropy; it is giving that disrupts the status quo. Philanthropreneurship is one of the key pillars of Omnipreneurship, an entrepreneurial approach to building and living a meaningful and better life.
—
An omnipreneur takes an entrepreneurial approach to every aspect of life: work, finance, philanthropy, family, community & society, spirituality and more. An omnipreneur is committed to building a better world.
—
A new generation of philanthropists is embracing the concept of omnipreneurship. They are stepping forward to contribute their creativity and entrepreneurial skills to address global challenges. Entrepreneurial philanthropists or “philanthropreneurs” around the world are bringing their business acumen to the world of philanthropy to help social enterprises and not-for-profits to be more efficient and impactful.

THE FORUM
THE PHILANTHROPRENEURSHIP FORUM The annual Philanthropreneurship Forum is a global initiative that connects, empowers and inspires leaders from philanthropy, civil society, academia, business and governments from diverse sectors and regions to foster innovation and encourage collaboration. The Forum sheds light on what it really takes to deliver positive social impact, ensure sustainability and accelerate scalable progress for communities around the world. The inaugural Forum was organised in London in 2014 in partnership with London Business School and the Stars Foundation. In 2015, the Forum was organised in Versailles, France.
GENERATION IMPACT: HARNESSING THE POWER OF GIVING Bolder actors, innovative tools and ingenious strategies are carving a new culture of giving and social investment. A new generation of thinkers and doers of altruism are embracing models of philanthropy that are global, entrepreneurial and collaborative to achieve measurable impact, sustainability and scale. Combined together, these embody ‘Generation Impact’. The 2017 Philanthropreneurship Forum will explore how ‘Generation Impact’ is transforming innovative thinking into concrete practices for tangible global gains.

AUSTRIAN NATIONAL LIBRARY 1015 Wien, Austria The Baroque State Hall at the Austrian National Library (ANL) is one of the world’s most beautiful historic libraries. The ceiling frescoes were completed in 1730 by the court painter Daniel Gran. The Library conserves a rich history going as far as the 14th century.

HOFBURG IMPERIAL PALACE Michaelerkuppel 1010 Wien, Austria
Until 1918 the extensive palatial complex at the heart of Vienna was the political centre of the monarchy. Today the Palace houses the offices of the Federal President, the ministers of the chancellor’s office and the secretaries of state. Grosser Redoutensaal, the venue for the Forum sessions, served as the setting for historic events such as Mozart operas, the debut performance of Beethoven’s 8th symphony, works by Franz Liszt and Josef Strauss.

ALBERTINA Albertinaplatz 1 1010 Wien, Austria Located in the historical centre of Vienna, the Albertina blends an imperial flair and unique masterpieces of art. The Albertina presents an impressive number of exhibitions, showing foremost works of art dating from the 15th century to the present day. The Albertina houses one of Europe’s most important compilations of Modernist art in the form of the Batliner Collection.

ART & THE FORUM When Winston Churchill was asked to cut arts funding in favour of the war effort, he simply replied, “Then what are we fighting for?” There are countless noble fights being waged around the world by brave leaders today – for gender equality, for climate change, for the eradication of poverty and universal access to education – and we believe that the fight to protect and celebrate the arts & culture - a fundamental part of what it means to be human – is one that resonates with our growing community. We are fortunate to gather annually, brought together by the sincere desire to discuss and uncover new ways for the delivery of impact-driven, scalable solutions to help build a better world, hosted in cities that are beacons of cultural heritage and activity. In our commitment to unveil the jewels of each host city, we create a program that weaves both past and present and this year, Vienna has set the bar ever higher.
132
We are humbled to count among our Forum’s official sites the Albertina Museum with a special Monet to Picasso exhibition, the National Austrian Library, the Hofburg Imperial Palace and last but not least, the Liechtenstein Garden Palace, where we will also celebrate the food, music and dance of this city. This year we are delighted to introduce a new feature; a collaboration with two contemporary Austrian artists - Helmut Grill & Andreas Reimann - who have produced two site–specific masterpieces that capture the essence and spirit of philanthropreneurship and allow art to inspire the conversation. We are deeply grateful for the city of Vienna for hosting us and for all that it represents as an important seat of art and culture.
133
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
ANDREAS REIMANN Andreas Reimann is an Austrian artist who specializes in further developments of pop art in tradition of Warhol portraits. His work includes portraits and hommages dedicated to icons of the 20th century and today. Inspired by the tradition of mannerism, he produces multi-layered works with refined hidden details.
134
HELMUT GRILL Helmut Grill is an Austrian artist who after years of working as a ‘digital manipulator’ in advertising decided to start his artistic career and apply these skills to the arts. In his artwork, he enhances images, videos, virtual landscapes and puts them into different environments to make the public discover individual, conscious and subconscious approaches to values and emotions that influence our thinking.

PHILANTHROPY UNIVERSITY Philanthropy University is built on a single audacious idea – to provide millions of nonprofits and NGOs around the world access to unlimited capacity building. This is strategic philanthropy at its best - seeing a need and then building a completely new solution to deliver what’s required. It is clear our world is facing a daunting number of challenges. But it is also clear that these problems are being addressed in creative ways by millions of non-profits, NGOs and social impact enterprises that have the potential to support billions of people in need. Yet too often, it is not a lack of compelling mission or powerful vision that impedes these organisations’ effectiveness. Instead, it is the huge gaps in capacity- from leadership to strategy to fundraising to evaluationpreventing organisations from being able to scale, sustain and drive long-term impact. Philanthropy University is a state-of-the-art approach to building the capacity and growing the skills of social sector leaders seeking to build a better world. Philanthropy University offers an innovative learning platform through which hundreds of thousands of leaders across the globe access free, online courses. Courses are taught by world-class instructors and designed by a cutting-edge curriculum committee. 140
Philanthropy University offers a vibrant community for social change leaders to grow their networks. With more than 400,000 enrolments in its first cycle, representing learners from 180 countries, Philanthropy University aims to impact 100 million lives by 2020 by training hundreds of thousands of social sector leaders to broaden their reach and deepen their impact. Philanthropy University is a non-degree or diploma granting program. Learners are not entitled to college or other academic credit.
