INTRODUCTION

WELCOME! I am tremendously thankful for the opportunity to welcome you to the third annual Philanthropreneurship Forum and to our growing community of people and organisations engaged in building a better world. We are truly honoured to be joined by a stellar lineup of cochairs, speakers and participants who have so generously offered their insight and their time to be with us and to participate in the conversation. I am personally indebted to the friendship and guidance of our co-chairs including His Excellency Dr. Wolfgang Schüssel, Professor Paul Brest, Paul Polman and Dr. Laura Tyson. Over the years, we have adopted different themes but remain committed to a singular aim – to shift philanthropy from its current traditional space to one where it is blended with entrepreneurialism, creativity and innovation to address three main areas - to create a bigger impact, to ensure sustainability and to deliver scalable ideas and solutions. This year, we are working on exploring Generation Impact: Harnessing the Power of Giving and seeing how different actors are moving the proverbial needle, delivering on the SDGs and shaping the future of the world. Confucius said: “If you think in terms of a year, plant a seed; if in terms of ten years, plant trees; if in terms of 100 years, teach the people”, and I believe that our Forum can be a space of teaching and of learning that will last 100 years and more. THE FORUM

THE PHILANTHROPRENEURSHIP FORUM The annual Philanthropreneurship Forum is a global initiative that connects, empowers and inspires leaders from philanthropy, civil society, academia, business and governments from diverse sectors and regions to foster innovation and encourage collaboration. The Forum sheds light on what it really takes to deliver positive social impact, ensure sustainability and accelerate scalable progress for communities around the world. The inaugural Forum was organised in London in 2014 in partnership with London Business School and the Stars Foundation. In 2015, the Forum was organised in Versailles, France.

GENERATION IMPACT: HARNESSING THE POWER OF GIVING Bolder actors, innovative tools and ingenious strategies are carving a new culture of giving and social investment. A new generation of thinkers and doers of altruism are embracing models of philanthropy that are global, entrepreneurial and collaborative to achieve measurable impact, sustainability and scale. Combined together, these embody ‘Generation Impact’. The 2017 Philanthropreneurship Forum will explore how ‘Generation Impact’ is transforming innovative thinking into concrete practices for tangible global gains.

Launched in January 2016, the Business & Sustainable Development Commission was established to make a powerful case for why companies should seize upon sustainable development as the greatest economic opportunity of a lifetime. The Business Commission’s flagship report, to be launched on 16 January 2017, will quantify the economic prize of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and show how the private sector can realise this opportunity and drive inclusive growth. His Excellency Amr Al-Dabbagh is a global citizen dedicated to bringing principled leadership to business, public service, family, faith and philanthropy. He serves as Chairman and CEO of Al-Dabbagh Group, a global family business, Founding Chairman of Stars Foundation, Founding Chairman of the Philanthropreneurship Forum and the Founder of Philanthropy U. He co-authored his first book, “Governpreneurship” in 2012, exploring successful entrepreneurial practices in government organizations. His second book, “Omnipreneurship: An Organized Approach to Living a Life of Meaning” suggests that by combining Principles, Values and Ten Golden Rules we can build a life of impact and meaning. Over the course of a thirty-year career His Excellency has led the growth of his global business, served in public office for two four-year terms as the Governor (with a rank of Minister) of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) and spearheaded philanthropic efforts on a global scale. He sits on the Board of Trustees of the Eisenhower Fellowship, the Cleveland Clinic International Leadership Board and is a Governor of London Business School.

HIS EXCELLENCY DR. WOLFGANG SCHÜSSEL

Former Federal Chancellor, Austria

Wolfgang Schüssel was born in Vienna in 1945 and received his doctorate in law from Vienna University in 1968. Between 2000 and 2007 Mr. Schüssel served as Federal Chancellor of Austria, chairing the European Council during Austria’s EU Presidency in the first half of 2006. His term in office saw the introduction of the Euro, a comprehensive reform of Austria’s pension system, the consolidation of the country’s budget, the privatization of nationalized industries, as well as restitution payments to the victims of National Socialism. From 1995 to 2007 Mr. Schüssel was National Chairman of the Austrian People’s Party. From 1989 to 1995 he served as Minister of Economic Affairs, and from 1995 to 1999 as Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs. Mr. Schüssel played a key role in Austria’s accession to the European Union and during the country’s first Presidency of the EU Council. Since 2008 Wolfgang Schüssel has been an active President of the Foreign Policy and United Nations Association. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Bertelsmann Foundation and on the Supervisory Board of RWE AG. Mr. Schüssel is a member of the Scientific Committee of The European House Ambrosetti and of the Board of Trustees of the Allensbach Institute, President of United Europe and, since October 2015, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

HIS EXCELLENCY SHAUKAT AZIZ Former Prime Minister, Pakistan

His Excellency Mr. Shaukat Aziz was elected as Prime Minister of Pakistan and served from 2004–2007, following five years as Finance Minister from 1999. His policies were based on the principals of liberalization, deregulation and privatization, accompanied by strong regulatory oversight. Mr. Aziz’s tenure was marked by high economic growth, increase in per capita income, reduction in poverty, an upsurge in investments and improved debt and economic indicators. Mr. Aziz offers an expert view and is a frequent speaker on the challenges facing the world including structural reforms, diplomacy, geopolitics and security. Mr. Aziz is a member of several boards and advisory boards of various commercial and non-profit entities around the world. Mr. Aziz’s new book, ‘From Banking to the Thorny World of Politics’, was released on May 26th 2016 and is available on Amazon.com. After graduating from Gordon College, Rawalpindi in 1967, Mr. Aziz gained a MBA degree from the Institute of Business Administration, University of Karachi.

MISHAL HUSAIN Journalist and Broadcaster, Master of Ceremony

Mishal Husain presents BBC Radio 4’s ‘Today’ - one of the most popular news and current affairs programmes in the British media since its inception in 1957. She also appears elsewhere on BBC News including international broadcasts on BBC World News and the main TV news bulletins on BBC1 in the UK. She has also been based in Washington as a foreign correspondent and Singapore as a business presenter. Mishal was born in the UK and grew up in the Middle East before studying Law at Cambridge University and completing a Master’s degree in International Comparative Law at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.

DR. SHAHID ANSARI

Chief Executive Officer, Babson Global

Dr. Shahid Ansari is currently serving as the CEO of Babson Global, a wholly owned subsidiary of Babson College. Dr. Ansari received his Ph.D. in Accounting and Organizational Behavior from Columbia University. He has taught at a number of leading business schools and won several awards for his teaching and research. Dr. Ansari has extensive consulting and executive education experience with major national and multinational firms. He has served on the Board of Directors of many new startups, some of whom have grown into significant mature businesses.

DAVID ARKLESS

Founder and Chairman, ArkLight Consulting and The Future Work Consortium

Mr. Arkless is a world-renowned expert on labor market trends and talent strategies. He established his family consulting firm in 1985, which he returned to in 2013. He worked at both Hewlett-Packard, in a number of countries/roles and ManpowerGroup, for 21 years, in multiple roles including Global President of Corporate and Government Affairs. He also led ManpowerGroup’s involvement in ninemillion.org, a UN initiative to provide education for 9 million young refugees across the world. Mr. Arkless was President of the Board of End Human Trafficking Now, is Co-Chairman of the Business Coalition Against Trafficking and is cofounder of the Washington Business Ending Slavery and Trafficking organization. In 2011, he was voted onto the Board of the Arab International Women’s Forum. Mr. Arkless received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Durham, where he is now a Board 43

member of Durham University Business School and has completed executive programs at INSEAD, IMD, and the San Jose College of Business. Mr. Arkless is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in London and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UK Social Metrics Commission.

PROFESSOR PAUL BREST Professor of Law, Emeritus (active), Director of the Law and Policy Lab, Stanford Law School

Paul Brest is Former Dean and Professor Emeritus (active), at Stanford Law School, a lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, a faculty codirector of the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society, and co-director of the Stanford Law and Policy Lab. He was president of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation from 2000-2012. He is co-author of Money Well Spent: A Strategic Guide to Smart Philanthropy (2008), Problem Solving, Decision Making, and Professional Judgment (2010), and articles on constitutional law, philanthropy, and impact investing. He also is the instructor in an online course, Essentials of Nonprofit Strategy, offered by Philanthropy University. Professor Brest is a fellow in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and holds honorary degrees from Northwestern University School of Law and Swarthmore College.

Mark Malloch-Brown is Co-chair of the Business and Sustainable Development Commission. He is a former 44

Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations as well as a previous Administrator of UNDP. He has also served in the British Cabinet and Foreign Office. He is active both in business and in the non-profit world. He also remains deeply involved in international affairs. Mark is also a Distinguished Practitioner of the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University and was formerly a visiting distinguished fellow at the Yale Centre for the Study of Globalisation. He has a number of honorary degrees. He was knighted in 2007 for his contribution to international affairs. He is the author of “The Unfinished Global Revolution” and in 2005 Time Magazine put him on its list of the 100 most influential people in the world. He continues to write, broadcast and lecture about international issues.

Tania Bryer is a television broadcaster with a wealth of experience. She interviews the world’s most recognised global figures for her critically-acclaimed series’ ‘CNBC Meets’ and ‘The CNBC Conversation’. Tania also appears weekly on Sky News and hosts and moderates a wide variety of international events and panel discussions.

Merit E. Dame Mary Marsh is a cross-sector leader whose varied experience includes executive and governance roles in the social/non-profit sector. Anthony W. Marx is President of The New York Public Library, the nation’s largest public library system, with 88 neighborhood libraries and four scholarly research centers. Under his leadership, the Library has created new early literacy and after-school programs for children and teens, dramatically increased free English language classes and citizenship support for immigrants, and improved services for scholars and students who rely on the Library’s world-renowned research collections. THE FORUM VENUE

VIENNA Located in the eastern part of Austria, Vienna is the capital and the largest city of Austria and is its cultural, economic and political centre. Apart from being regarded as the “City of Music” because of its musical legacy, it’s renowned for its imperial palaces and fascinating architecture and is also known for its high quality of life, ranking at the top of the list of the world’s most livable cities. January is the coldest month of the year in Vienna, with nighttime low temperatures of -4°C and daytime highs of no more than 2°C. Precipitation at this time of year falls mainly in the form of snow, adding to the beauty of this enchanting city.

AUSTRIAN NATIONAL LIBRARY 1015 Wien, Austria The Baroque State Hall at the Austrian National Library (ANL) is one of the worldâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s most beautiful historic libraries. The ceiling frescoes were completed in 1730 by the court painter Daniel Gran. The Library conserves a rich history going as far as the 14th century.

Until 1918 the extensive palatial complex at the heart of Vienna was the political centre of the monarchy. Today the Palace houses the offices of the Federal President, the ministers of the chancellor’s office and the secretaries of state. Grosser Redoutensaal, the venue for the Forum sessions, served as the setting for historic events such as Mozart operas, the debut performance of Beethoven’s 8th symphony, works by Franz Liszt and Josef Strauss.

ALBERTINA Albertinaplatz 1 1010 Wien, Austria Located in the historical centre of Vienna, the Albertina blends an imperial flair and unique masterpieces of art. The Albertina presents an impressive number of exhibitions, showing foremost works of art dating from the 15th century to the present day. The Albertina houses one of Europeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s most important compilations of Modernist art in the form of the Batliner Collection.

We are humbled to count among our Forum’s official sites the Albertina Museum with a special Monet to Picasso exhibition, the National Austrian Library, the Hofburg Imperial Palace and last but not least, the Liechtenstein Garden Palace, where we will also celebrate the food, music and dance of this city. This year we are delighted to introduce a new feature; a collaboration with two contemporary Austrian artists - Helmut Grill & Andreas Reimann - who have produced two site–specific masterpieces that capture the essence and spirit of philanthropreneurship and allow art to inspire the conversation. We are deeply grateful for the city of Vienna for hosting us and for all that it represents as an important seat of art and culture.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

ANDREAS REIMANN Andreas Reimann is an Austrian artist who specializes in further developments of pop art in tradition of Warhol portraits. His work includes portraits and hommages dedicated to icons of the 20th century and today. Inspired by the tradition of mannerism, he produces multi-layered works with refined hidden details.

HELMUT GRILL Helmut Grill is an Austrian artist who after years of working as a â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;digital manipulatorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; in advertising decided to start his artistic career and apply these skills to the arts. In his artwork, he enhances images, videos, virtual landscapes and puts them into different environments to make the public discover individual, conscious and subconscious approaches to values and emotions that influence our thinking.
