3 The water saving washing up bowl uses preexisting technology using a living hinge (similar to that of a bendy straw) encouraging the use of less water when washing up only a few items. For when this is the case, the bowl collapses, therefore allowing the user to fill up a fraction of its total volume. When more items are needed to be washed, the bowl expands to allow for the extra items and water volume. The unique selling point of this product is to reduce the amount of water that gets wasted with in the UK that in turn can impact the user by saving them money on water bills. Primarily aimed at the householder who still uses the washing up bowl as there main way to wash dishes. This is still accounts for a large proportion of the population within the UK.

Material Selection
MAIN BODY - POLYPROPYLENE A standard material used in the injection moulding processes, that is supplied by the company who manufactures the product. The properties of the material makes it excellent for a washing bowl by having a good tolerance to heat. Polypropylene also has good hygienic qualities that is also important when washing any dishes. The products main cost is the initial fabrication however each unit cost is low in comparison due to the readily available material.

Water Saving Washing Bowl Care instructions: Clean using warm soapy water. Please wash before us.
DESCRIPTIVE TEXT
Using a paper label means that it will be easy to apply and very sustainable as the label will only have a short life cycle. This is because it will be pealed off the main body once it has been purchased for use. The function of the label is very straight forward, to visually provide the intended user the purpose of the product and to contain the barcode for purchase.

LABEL
The label itself is to be stuck at the side with the logo showing that continues underneath with the barcode. The printing process uses off-set lythrography. This machine uses a series of rollers to transfer the ink to paper.
10
Send the CAD file off to the company who provides the fabrication of the tooling and the injection moulding process.
A label is added to complete the assembly of the product. The bowl is now ready for shipping to its intended retailer.

Manufacturing Process
INJECTION MOULDING
11
Plastic pellets (in this case polypropylene) get added to the injection moulder via a hopper. The plastic gets heated to a point of where it melts and the screw thread starts turning powered by a motor. Melted plastic gets forced into the mould as the screw turns.. Once the plastic is cooled the male and female moulds are separated and the ejector pin ejects the product.

Printing
The selling price and quantity have been based upon Tescos pre-exsisting washing bowl. Examples of this can be seen in the Contacts and Research Section. The total batch number (20,000) has been calculated by the Tesco stores that can accommodate the product and how many bowls they have on the self at one time (estimated at 20) For this costing i have only used one supermarket retailer as an example.
