Acknowledgment:

The Internship opportunity that I had with NRA-Rif Constructions, in duration of approximately a year and a bit more , was a great chance for my learning and professional development. Therefore I consider myself as a very lucky person as I was given the chance to be a part of their company. Also, I am very grateful for having the opportunity to meet so many amazing people and professionals who led me through this short-period of internship training. Bearing in mind previous that I am using this report to convey my gratitude and special thanks to Ar. Nadim EL Rif the Chief Operating and Executive Officer and also to Mr. Wassim EL Rif Executive Director. They heartily welcomed me, gave me valuable advise and guidance along this internship period, despite being extraordinarily busy with their duties they made me time to learn what's necessary in this training and thanks to them I treasured both theoretical and practical training. I would be pleased to show my gratitude also to my university, the holy spirit university of kaslik - USEK who prepared me well to this internship. According to my experience, it was obvious among all that students from this university can prove themselves in any given task. Now, I realize this opportunity as a big milestone in my career development. I will aim to use this knowledge and gained skills in the best possible way to attain desired career goals. Last but not least, I hope to continue co-adjuvancy with you all (USEK/NRA) in the future.

Tasks assigned according to internship:

 PREDESIGN AND SCHEMATIC DESIGN PHASE: The predesign phase starts when a client asks for an architect’s help to carry out a project from design till completion of the entire project.

Few things architects need to evaluate and take into consideration before starting any project such as the type of the project assigned, the current capacity load of work, client vision, the site location, letter of appointment and duration of the project, not to forget approximate fees. After the agreement has been done between the client and the architect according to the list of evaluative requirement listed above, the schematic design begins, it’s a preliminary sketch design presented according to the customers proposal. Architects in this stage need to inform clients that important consultants and engineers will be evolved to undertake the project. Also they need to aware the local authority and get a permission.

Basically the process of approval will take 3 months period. The next phase stars when the approval is obtained. This stage takes more time and involves more staff. At the end of this stage we can have an illustration or a 3D sketch of what will be done. ALEEN SABA_201201659

Tasks assigned according to internship:

 DESIGN DEVELOPMENT PHASE:

This is the phase where a schematic design needs to be developed , building plan submission involved and also obtain the building plan approval from local authorities (architects order). This phase enable the consultants to start detailed design drawing work.

In order to ensure that this phase work effectively and to avoid any re working or abortive work, all relevant consultant must be on board. The drawings need to be distributed to all partner consultant. For example a structural detail can cause an effective change in the design etc. Moreover in this phase the client needs to be aware of prices and the preliminary costing of the project. The project development must be inline with the client’s budget. Prices shall vary according to quantity and quality surveyors. In this stage the architect must provide the tabulate schedule of areas.

Sometimes at this stage a schedule of suggested materials is also presented .

Tasks assigned according to internship:

 PERMIT APPLICATION AND CONTRACT DOCUMENTATION PHASE:

The permit stage allows the client as the architect to continue the project with the local authorities submission and approval. The architect needs an official approval from the local authority in order to proceed to the building construction stages. This is the stage in which the architects need to be aware of different local authorities and establish requirements for coordinate and specialist. Consideration to observe and assess regulatory contexts like building by law, settle back limits, fire escape requirement, number of cars needed according to areas and use, etc. All these must be taken into consideration and all laws must be respected in order to get the local authorities approval. After this stage time consuming and coast are what to look forward to. 10

Conclusion : Within these several weeks of intensive training a great experience has been taught to me. To terminate my report I will be presenting a general conclusion of advantages and opportunities that are offered throughout an internship period:

ALEEN SABA_201201659

The purpose of this practical internship is to expose the future architect (actual student) to the real world and to real work tasks and how to deal with them using the suitable solutions according to different cases.

Also, it is a chance for student to apply theories and acknowledged information in the field of work.

This training allows students to observe and record in head every detail.

It trains students to develop their skills and enrich their schematic design, development design, contract documentation, site visit, execution, client- consultant meetings..

Besides, it enhances team experience.

Finally, its an opportunity to meet new people, learn new experience and connect between soft and hard skills.
