3.-PEOPLE AND HEALTH 1.- Heath Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being. A) Physical health means that our body works well. B) Mental health means that our emotions (anger, fear, surprise, love…) are not a problem in our daily activities and we are happy. C) Social health means having good relationships with the people in our family, our friends, classmates… Prevention referes to doing things such as healthy habits, routine check-ups and vaccinations that help to maintain good health and avoid illness. Health care is the prevention and treatment of illness ( going to the doctor or medical specialists, taking medicines…)

2.- Healthy habits To help our body work well it is important to have healthy habits:      

Good hygiene means to keep your body clean (have daily showers, wash your hands before meals, brush your teeh after meals…) Sleep. Children need 10 hours a day to recover after a long day. Good posture to prevent back pain. Keep your back straight when you are sitting, don’t carry too much weight… Physical exercise makes you stronger and more flexible. It is good for your heart and lungs and helps to maintain your correct weight. Leisure activities are very important to stay healthy. (visiting museums, going on excursions, reading books…) Have a healthy diet. It should be sufficient and balanced. Eat a variety of foods to get all the nutrients, reduce fats and sugars contained in bacon , butter, cakes…eat plenty of fibre contained in fruits, pulses, vegetables, whole grain foods… Have healthy eating habits. Eat five meals a day, have food hygiene washing fresh food before eating and preserve food.

3.- Accident prevention An accident is something that happens suddenly and can result in harm. We cannot avoid accidents but can often prevent them. A) At home  Don´t play rough games.  Never take medicines without a doctor’s prescription.  Handle sharp objects carefully.  Use electrical devices safely. B) At school  Don’t run in the classroom or corridor.  Be careful playing in the playground.


 Never push your classmates. C) In the street  Don’t run on the pavement.  Pay attention to traffic lights and use zebra crossing to cross the streets.  Use a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads when you ride a bike or go skate boarding.
