Cafeteria and Harbor This proposal was made by the need to improve Oporto’s marginal and reinforce the boat fluxes between Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto. Located above the river Douro, it has a cafeteria that serves the ones that arrive or go from there by boat. The main challenge for this exercise was to use only the modular figure of 2,6 x 2,6 meters. The many experiments done by different models led into some vertical structures that contrast with the horizontal context. By creating this forms and frames, I intended to direct the look towards different points of the landscape and reinforce the relations between the interior and the exterior.

Cultural Centre and Residence This new infraestructure to the city is also by the river Douro, where the traditional city meets the marginal. The exercise required not only a cultural centre to the Universidade do Porto, but also a residence for professors and researchers. So, the programme was interpreted by the way that those two demands could be reflected in a horizontal body (cultural centre) and a vertical one (residence), being separated but together. One of the main intentions was to continue to reveal the landscape from the city with this lowered building. Therefore, this meant a large walkway and a generous public space by the river.

Plotter Bar The competition “Barraca da Queima for AEFAUP” required a project for an academic bar able to represent the architecture students from FAUP, by using recycled materials. This small building already had a metal structure that we ought to overlay in the most effectively way. By using plotter rolls with waterproof fabric and recycled wood, we were able to build diferent patterns with several textures. This combination with the spotlights, highlights the bar in an unique way for everyone in the place.

Collective Housing Francos neighbourhood is a place that needs social and architectonic interventions, that’s why creating new houses and stores became a pertinent proposal. The project is integrated in an urbanistic plan and the building was designed in the way that it could be futurely continued with similar ones. This building is located in front of a square, along a curved street and very close to a series of modernist housing buildings - that’s why metal sliding blinds and white concrete are the facade’s main elements, recalling those constructions. The two apartment blocks are connected by the accesses and mix different apartment typologies in a gallery distribution. At the bottom it has a garage, stores and a garden that intend to give new uses to this area.

Oporto’s Urban Art Centre Interventions in the Oporto’s city centre are a big responsability given by the urban context and its long history. Therefore, I decided to maintain the rock of the site which is part of the people’s collective memory having some interesting plastic characteristics that could be used as part of the building. The programme of the building included an auditorium, an exhibition and a multipurpose room, a cafeteria, a shop, some offices and other associated services. The main goal was to create a sculptural building to the city that showed the contrast between the rock and the concrete - natural and artificial.

Municipality of Chañaral In March 2014, a seaquake destroyed half of the city of Chañaral, leaving the dispersed municipality organs without a physical place. A municipality is a place able to receive everyone, so it has a civical square at his entrace, an auditorium and a library besides his main functions. As a solution, this concrete building unites all the municipality’s departments in one single courtyard, adquiring the function of a second square, from the public assitence to the most private offices.
