The Non-Building
Divisi贸n del Norte,Tlalpan, Mexico City Best Thesis Project ITESM 2015 Mixed-use, 2015
Everything is transformable: from the loud and persistent sing of a cricket to ideas. Then, why does life move and transform at a rapid pace in contrast to architecture? For example, there is discrepancy between Mexicans麓 improvisation capacity and the upcoming spaces. In other words, most of the buildings are designed under fixed configurations. They are space and time limited. Therefore, this proposal aims to develop a scheme that lets the building split away from its object condition, and instead leading it towards a more spontaneous appropriation for people and its needs through transformation. It is located in the South Part of Mexico City. Among the biggest problems of this area is the social rupture that is caused by the lack of services and the predominance of vehicles in the streets. As a result, the project proposes a simple and efficient structure that has the capacity of providing an immediate change. Since the current necessity is a space for automobiles and people, the building will serve as a container of both. Then, as people and necessities change, the building will. The project looks for freedom and flexibility in an object that is usually considered permanent and static.

HAPPY PATIOS NETWORK
RepĂşblica de Argentina, Downtown, Mexico City Best Urban Project ITESM 2015 Urban Intervention, 2015
Layers form Mexico City. Sometimes, there are elements that show this condition in a more evident way. For example, through centuries, the tianguis (informal commerce) and the vecindades (multi-family housing around a big patio) have been part of it. They are also part of the memory of the city and the inhabitants. Nevertheless, the urban decay, the traffic jams and the sub utilization of spaces are even more evident. That is the case of Argentina Street in the Downtown of Mexico City: full of misunderstood pre-existences. The project’s intention is to claim those pre-existences: patios and tianguis. The area lacks public space and currently, some of those patios are used as food units that give service to local people. As a result, the project creates a network of interventions in the patios so they become an extension of the street. Finally, the project aims to make people accept the informal commerce as part of the city. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to provide a structural flexibility. The proposal is to create a modular structure for the tianguis along Argentina Street that increases the possibility of change (tianguis, art installation, rest area).

DISTRITO SUR Tlalpan, Mexico City Master Plan, 2014
Through time, Mexico City’s lacustrine condition has been degraded, resulting in a loss of urban identity in the metropolitan area. The loss of rivers and channels in the city has made social inclusion more difficult due to the physical barriers that it generated inside the neighborhoods. The study area is located in the south part of Mexico City, where several water bodies were artificially covered. Currently, it has caused a physical barrier and a rejection to life in an environment with water. The project proposes a new urban corridor that is developed along the San Buenaventura River, located in the Xochimilco and Tlalpan boundary. In addition, the green corridor will have pedestrian and public transportation systems that will create an urban connection between the area and the rest of Mexico City. This element aims to consolidate a new District by providing people spaces to live, study, eat, shop, and entertain themselves in a 1 km distance.

SLAP TOWER
Digital Media City, SeĂşl, Corea del Sur Usos Mixtos, 2013
In our society, high-rise buildings are considered as symbols of economic and political power, as well as an indispensable characteristic of a modern and cosmopolite city. Nevertheless, this demonstration of power has had a negative effect in life. Behind gigantic facades, the living space and the human interaction have lost their essence. The modernity has left us a repetitive system of production in objects as well as in space. But the result has not been effective in social terms, because there is a fragmentation of the social activities. The tower departs from modernism structural way of construct, but claims an extension of life inside it. The intention is to create confortable areas through a portico that surrounds the building. Since those areas are not designed for office purposes, they can become platforms that work as meeting points where people can interact and enjoy the space. It pursues the idea of an integration between landscape and architecture, public and private space, form and function.

Portales, Mexico City, Mexico Townhouse, 2012
Through the years, the city has more people and less space. Therefore, in a world that is everytime smaller, more pragmatic and with more changes, the architects have the challenge to propose new solutions. This house is among those answers to this accelerated population growing in the cities. The result is a spatial exploration that aims to create a comfortable space in a narrow and long site (4 x 35 m). The strategy was to provide spatial and visual continuity in the house. It was achieved by the use of voids that will work as patios. Besides, providing natural light and ventilation to the house, those small patios become intimate spaces inside a big and chaotic city.

LA MARAVILLA
Atlampa, Mexico City, Mexico Buidling Intervention, 2013
During the last years, the architects, town planners and sociologists have made a reflection about how to intervene places with previous memories and histories. In other words, making architecture from pre-existence. La Maravilla is an antique factory with very strong industrial character. From this starting point, the project aims to reactivate its machine condition. In order to achieve it, the exercise consists in a cleaning process, as well as the integration of a new volume that can dialogue with the pre-existence. In this way, building and people will interact again.
