ALTERNATIVE DESERT CITIES PHOENIX IS A MAJOR GROWING CITY, WHICH IS WHY I PROPOSED MY CROP CIRCLE CITIES FOR 2070. I WANTED TO PRESERVE THE
FARMLAND WHILE STILL BEING ABLE TO CONSTRUCT ON THESE AREAS TO
ACCOMODATE THE GROWTH OF THE CITY AND THE POPULATION. COMBINING THESE TWO
ASPECTS WILL ALSO HAVE A SMALLER IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT AND DECREASE THE FOOTPRINT WE LEAVE.
I DESIGNED ELEVATED MOUNDS COMPOSED OF 6 UNITS EACH WITH OUTER WALLS AND ROOFS ACCESSIBLE TO CROPPING; THUS
CREATING AN AGRICULTURAL AND SELF SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY.

REDESIGNING DMVS FOR THIS DMV AND PUBLIC MARKET PROJECT IN SAN DIEGO, I PROPOSED EXTENDING
VOLUMES TOWARDS ATTRACTIONS NEARBY,
TO CREATE A COMMUNITY SPACE FIT FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE PUBLIC. I WANTED
THE SURROUNDINGS OF THE SITE TO AFFECT THE PROGRAMS IN THE PROJECT, TO TAILOR IT SPECIFICALLY TO THE SITE. THE OPEN SPACES ARE MEANT FOR OUTDOOR
GATHERINGS, WHILE THE PROGRAMS (DMV, MARKET, PUBLIC PLAZA AND STUDENT
CENTER) ARE IN THE INTERIOR OF THE
VOLUMES. THE PROGRAMS ARE GEARED
TOWARDS STUDENT LIVING DUE TO THE
PROXIMITY OF THE SITE TO THE UNIVERSITY AND DORMS.

PHOENIX HOUSING CURRENTLY, THE VAN BUREN AREA IN PHOENIX IS COMMONLY KNOWN FOR DRUGS AND CRIME;
BUT DESPITE ITS CURRENT REPUTATION, IT WAS ONCE KNOWN AS “THE GATEWAY TO PHOENIX”. MY VISION FOR THIS PROJECT WAS TO BE ABLE
TO OVERLOOK THE NEGATIVE CONNOTATION OF THE AREA BY CREATING A SPACE FOR HOUSING AND COMMUNAL ACTIVITIES.
IN THE 1940’S IT WAS CONSIDERED THE “MOTEL CAPITAL OF THE WORLD” DUE TO THE DENSITY
OF OVERNIGHT ACCOMODATIONS. THE VISITORS WERE GREETED BY ENDLESS SUCESSIONS OF
NEON SIGNS, WHICH LATER BECAME A SYMBOL AND ICON FOR VAN BUREN.
THE NEON SIGNS AND MOTELS WERE MY MAIN INSPIRATION FOR IDEA AND CONCEPT.

PERSONAL PROJECTS MY AREAS OF INTEREST INCLUDE MIXED MEDIA COLLAGES, PHOTOGRAPHY AND INTERPRETIVE DRAWINGS.
MIXED MEDIA COLLAGES: ALLOWING ARTISTIC SELF EXPRESION WITH NO
RESTRICTIONS TO CONVEY A CONCEPT AND MOOD FOR THE VIEWER.
PHOTOGRAPHY: CAPTURING MOMENTS OF EMOTIONS OR UNFORGETTABLE ARCHITECTURE DETAILS.
INTERPRETIVE DRAWINGS: MY FAVORITE PART IN THE CREATIVE PROCESS FOR PROJECTS;
LETTING THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN TAKE OVER A PROJECT, PRIOR TO RESTRICTIONS AND LIMITATIONS.
