A little illustration of myself.
HELLO! My name is Alejandra Martí, and I am really glad to meet you! I’m from Barcelona and I think I’m an open, creative and persistent girl. I love to meet new people and places, which I have always considered that enriched my life. I like adveture since I was a child and I’m actually learning how to play guitar, which helped me to realize how important is to be patient in front of a challenge. I’m student of Elisava, a Barcelona’s University of design
and engineering. During the last three years, I have learnt about society, design and product needs and requirements, about teamwork and how to develop a process and design project. I want to focus my career on product design, but I’m also interested on many others aspects like graphic and space design. Knowledge has no limits. Therefore, I have decided to study abroad to improve my human and designer skills, and to learn other overviews of product and globla
design. Also to meet and work with people of different cultures. I am sure Rhode Island School of Design will give me a wider perspective of professional world and will offer me a larger scope of international studies which will provide me a highly competitive edge. Last but not least, it is an unique opportunity to get to know the culture and people of a fascinating country as the United States.

Light Volume - Wood Chair - Buba Lamp - Goolie
PRODUCT DESIGN
Alejandra Martí PORTFOLIO
22
LIGHT VOLUME The project was to make a light volume of propylene material. The curiosity was that we couldn’t use any other material, only propylene. So, I looked for a shape that moreover being different and stethic would also be functional. It is not only a simply way to do it, but also a good way to make it easy to built it up. As it is show in the pictures there are different
ways to give it the final look.
Finally, the shape of the lamp is the result of a relationship between aerodinamic and functionality. It can be seen in different ways, and the same volume viewed from different angles seems to be totally different.
23

24
WOOD CHAIR This exercise consisted of designing and constructing a chair, we could only used 1cm thick wood. Could not be used any type of fastening with glue or nails. It has to be joined by lace that allow it easily assembled and disassembled.
The final result was a lightweight chair, one of the proposed objectives, and that holds a person of more than 80Kg. Also got a simple shape but at the same time it’s very interesting with small details.
25
Alejandra MartĂ PORTFOLIO
26
BUBA LAMP The challenge of this exercise was that we had to design a lamp for the interior space if a country house, but the cost price does not exceeds the 15 euros.
The lamp was built with organic materials, as rods for feet, raffia for the the shade, rubber tire to attach rods from the top and wire to make the bulb holder.
The design of the shade creates a very interesting light effect, since there are gaps in it because of the material. The light that passes throught this gaps create a very relaxing ambient.

TĂtulo
This project arose from a workshop that we did in the university whith the company IMC Toys. The workshop consisted of creating a toy for children among 3 and 5 years. Our proposal was based on the idea that the children let fly their imanigation by creating different animals, both existing or invented, and which at the same time could

paint the body and accessories. This toy is especially to play in the tub, in the pool or in a place near the water since, Goolie, the alien, to come into contact with water chages his color and also clears all what was painted with felttipped pens.

LA SALA VINÇON EX
The main objective of our project has been the creation of a temporary exhibition that would awaken an interest in visitors and above all a reaction in the form of reflection when you were watching. Through the exhibits in the hall we pretended that the visitors had a point of view from the entire object, understanding its parts so
that you can later identify the materials and textures that we found in the object. Moving the skin/sleeve covering the objects to the walls by exaggerating the object we aim to go beyond observation, looking for the interaction of the visitor with the concepts of skin that some students of Elisava have proposed
as is prothesis of this household items.
This exhibition is aimed at all audiences, especially the young people. We believed that this exhibition that combines observation with the experimentation can be very enriching for schools ans families.

SHELL
I had to create a spacae from strips of wood that works as a third skin and in which the person can ‘be’ sitting down, or standing or lying down. The structure must be selfsuporting and designed to be placed in an outside. The concepts of permeability, threshold, and layers are the elements of reference for the generation of the space. This space cannot be longer than 8m3. To create the space I inspire in the nests of birds, they are very
comfortable but at the same time very complex spaces. In order to achive this feeling I was creating circles through squares in different positions. To fit like a hemisphere the squares were increasingly smaller. The position of this space may vary as it can be positionated in different ways. If the biggest part goes down the effect created is a dome where you can scale. Also, can be positionated in its side making able to sit and lie in a part of the structure.
This first proposal was dropped since it did not comply with the statement because it looked like a cealing with a few feet. Althought, it created interesting shadows and played with the light.
This was second and final proposal:

‘CREO’ FORCE STUDIES I analyzed an opener and studied the external forces which it suffers at the moment of use. Once found the results, I continued to the formalization with the program ‘Creo Parametric’. Thanks to the program, I could apply the supposed forces to the different parts of the object and saw what stresses and deformations happened. On the next page we find the different tests carried out: in
the left column there are represented section stresses (MPa) and in the right one there are represented the deformations (mm). It is very useful to check if the object is going to endure the forces os if it is going to break, and if it does, where the fracture is going to occur. In that case, we must search a new material and start with the process again. Alejandra Martí PORTFOLIO
