Bayou Fish Lab Clear Lake Marine Biology Laboratory The Bayou Fish Lab is a research laboratory dedicated to the regional issues of Houston - Galveston watershed ecology. The complex bayou to bay and Gulf water systems that make up the Greater Houston Area are being maped and studied in detail and added to greater regional information bases. The new facility will be shared by teams of professional and student researchers that undertake granted studies in aspects of estuarial systems.

Market linearity Market + office complex The Market linearity project is a market development and office complex on the site of a major node within the houston metro rail system. The project unfolds it self into a linear concept (literally). The project guides the person in a single line as it loops through the site to create outdoor spaces in order to accommodate a weekly farmers market. The project ends at a mid rise tower adjacent to a major Houston freeway containing the office complex, giving the working space the metropolitan feel that is Houston.

Electroshade Relational art using parametric design “The role of artwork is no longer to form imaginary and utopian realities, but to actually be ways of living, and models of action within existing realities, whatever scale chosen by the artist. The Electro-shade is a relational art piece at the site of a major rail and bus transportation node, that acts as a waiting station for rail and bus passengers providing shade for those waiting. At the same time the Electro-shade is composed of photo voltaic cells at the top that provide electricity to the shapes allowing people to charge their electronic devices. The design is arranged by a series of tangent circles which create a grid. The circles create a triangle which is also repeated throughout the structure. This project was done in collaboration with Ivan Lopez .

Solartwist Gulf-bayou Urban Ecology lab The design of the Ecology Lab demands thought into the interrelationship, traditionally separate disciplines and public space. The project serves as a public outreach program of a multidisciplinary institute studying human and natural effects on changes in the Gulf/Bayou ecosystem. Urban ecology informs the study of architecture at the scales of study linking urbanism, building, and envelope. The building twists at each floor allowing the water holding tanks to be exposed to the sun, where different organisms are being tested.

ASCC Architecture student community center The Architecture Student Community Center, is a place for architecture students to escape the stresses of the architecture studio for a moment, to clear up and rest up physically and mentally. The Idea of the ASCC is to move the student to a different setting away from that of the architecture studio. The main element of the building encases the sleeping areas. Taking into consideration the symmetrical composition of the architecture building the design takes over a different axis of circulation, relating to the central axis of the architecture building in the same North-South direction. Although asymmetrical in composition the design relates directly to the major circulation paths leading away and into the architecture building.

Readart Menil bookstore + sculpture garden A Houston couple prominent in literary and architectural circles has commissioned a new bookstore design featuring books on art, architecture and landscape architecture. In addition they would like to have a coffee bar with interior and exterior seating. The garden will also be used to display their collection of Jesus Moroles sculptures. The clients have obtained a site near the Menil Collection, as they are interested in the urban and pedestrian qualities of the area. The bookstore and coffee bar should facilitate anticipated literary events and other entertainment functions.

SAMMTS San Antonio multmodal transit station Continuing the semester’s long investigation of the relationship between architecture and movement. The San Antonio multi-modal transit station would serve as a hub for Amtrak, VIA, BRT and Greyhound, integrating it with a historical building that originally served as a train station. By adding T.O.D. and a new program this historical building can be once again what it was originally intended to be.

Graphic design Task force against elderly domestic violence
Through the Service Learning program students work with non-profit organizations and produce projects such as this campaign for the Art Direction class. Representatives of such organizations come to the class and introduce the project needed, when the work is complete they return and select the one of their liking.
