NEUCHATEL TOWER Lago Neuchatel, Col. Granada, Mexico City 2016

The Neuchatel Tower, located in a dense urban area at one of the most important financial and housing zones of Mexico City, responds several needs of the area and the city itself, the huge demand of office areas in addition to the need for new housing spaces. Neuchatel Tower, brings to the habitants and users a new modern way to live, mixing office areas and flats in just one single complex. On its more than Two Hundred meters high distributed along Thirty floors, the building provides a high level of habitability, comfort and luxury.

Site Analysis l Located in Polanco, one of the most dense urban areas of Mexico City, known as a luxurious, shopping and touristic area. Located at the northwest of the city, the site of Neuchatel Tower fills out many of the need that habitants of this part of the city responds, with 3 shopping malls, 2 museums, cinemas, supermarkets in no more than 500 meters around it.

10

11

Concept

l

Comes from the origins of the location. Polanco is

located on the grounds of the Hacienda de San Juan de los Morales. At the beginning of the colonial times, parts of this land (near the current center of the Hacienda) were occupied for planting mulberry trees for breeding silkworms and this is were the concept takes form. Neuchatel Tower shape and design are inspirated on the Mulberry Trees in order to show the historical past of Polanco.

Design l Neuchatel Tower, a project who involves two diferrent uses, residential and bussiness. On its 28 floors, 22 are designated only for residential use, 5 floors for offices and business uses and the 28th floor is designted for an events hall and on the rooftop, an heliport for diverse uses.

12

Neuchatel Tower, responding to the needs of the zone, is the maximum expression of luxury and exclusivity but also provides comfort and a huge level of habitability.

SITE

O-SHAPE

The architectural program demanded a 30th floored tower. So at first we extrude the site which is an irregular rectangle shape, thirty floors up (providing 5m each floor).

To ensure confort and sun-light ilumination for all the spaces, we substract the original object to form an Oshape which gives the opportunity to create public spaces for the project.

EXPANDED AREA

MIXED USE

In order to gain usable area but also in order to justify the concept, we expand the center quore of the shape, to create a unique shape tower.

The program demanded to have a tower with mixed use, in this case, 10 floors are destinated for offices, 17 for living and the last floor destinated for an events hall.

FACADE

RESULT

In order to create shading effects on the inside of the tower, we created a facade which gives the tower an identity and uniqueness in comparison of the surrounding buildings.

As a result, we have a unique Mixed Use Thirty-floored tower which provides a new identity to the neighborhood Polanco but also creates new convivential areas to it, with the addition of public green areas on the remains of the site.

Structure l

In Neuchatel Tower, for the foundation we choose a

piling system and a concrete slab. For the Builiing Structure, a Diagrid system with a Concrete Core will be implemented in order to resist earthquake movements. For the building floors, a system of steel deck with steel beams will be used in order to bring stability and lightness to the structure but also and not less important, to reduce costs of the project.

Á N G E L

Av. Revolución, Col. Sán Ángel, Mexico City 2017

Cultural Corridor San Ángel arises from the need to generate public and recreational spaces, but above all from the need for green areas in Mexico City, specifically, in the Col. San Ángel of the Álvaro Obregón delegation. As the main idea and approach, we took as center of the project, the road return of Av. De los Insurgentes and Av. Revolución. The creation of a cultural space with diverse activities related to the arts, thus achieving greater social coexistence in the area. In addition, a Linear Park will be developed along Av. Revolución that will connect directly with the cultural space.

Site Analysis l San Ángel, a semi-dense area located on the South-West on Mexico City, the area is well known as one of the most cultural and artistic zones in the City. Surrounded by Teathers, Museums, Restaurants and Office areas, at some point of the day, Av. Revolución the automotive and pedestrian influx turns into a total chaos. There's where Cultural Corridor takes place, in order to solve the inminent caos, the proposal involves the creation of a Vehicule Tunnel to reduce the time in traffic and also to generate a new pedestrian area in order to complement the urban environment.

24

25

Design l As a final idea, for the San Ă ngel Cultural Corridor, the design of an interactive museum and the arts was proposed, a museum whose main characteristic is that it is developed underground, thus allowing the development of green areas at the top, but above all reducing the environmental impact that would result to build a building in height.

26

Corridor Tunnel l On Av. Revolution we reduced the road lanes by 2 on each side sending the traffic to an underground vehicular tunnel.

The Cascade Entrance l For the Cultural Centre San Angel a staircascade remarks the main entrance to it. Which changes the idea of just a simple stair, providing new experiences to the project.

Structure l The structure chosen for the Cultural Center is based on a framework of retaining walls made of concrete to ensure the stability of the enclosure, which is at least three meters high in correspondence with the level +/- 0.00 as shown in the previous image. For the foundation, after a previous analysis of the land, it was decided to implement concrete slab because the site is in a rocky terrain and does not require a deep foundation to generate the required stability, besides the use of reinforced concrete columas was implemented.

PACĂ?FICO 4 5 5 Av. PacĂfico 455, Col. La Candelaria, Mexico City 2017

Pacifico 455, a project that merges after the destructive Eartquake that hit Mexico City on September 19th of 2017 who left several damages on many buidlngs around the city. Some of them fall down and some remaind stand, like Pacifico 455, but with fatal damages who left the buildings unhabitable. As a social work, the design project of the trimester was to develop an executive project in order to give to the owners and habitants of the damaged building.

Site Analysis l Barrio de la Canderlaria, located on CoyoacĂĄn, Mexico City, its a high dense population area, characterized for being a place where religious traditions are preserved, which for the inhabitants of the project presents an inconvenience due to the little tolerance of the neighbors towards the big constructions. About Terrain stability, the terrain lies in a type 1 terrain, where the terrain conditions are rocky due to the composition of volcanic stone that makes up the area, thanks to this, a deep foundation is not necessary as well as being a land with little telluric mobility.

The Damages

l

on September 19th, 2017, a 7.5 Ritcher

Earthquake hit the centre of Mexico, creating huge damages specially on Mexico City, in which the Flat Building of Pacifico 455 suffered critical damages on the structure. Diario La Jornada

The building did not colapsed during the Earthquake, but the structure suffered critical damages, Specially on the Structural Colums, which left the building unhabitable. Cultura Colectiva.com

The Proposal l Bein part of the Universidad AutĂłnoma Metropolitana Re-Design Brigade for the Earthquake Damnified, I recieved Pacifico 455, a 26 family-flat building with one Parking Lot for each one. So, on the proposal, I designed a sixfloored Steel Structure building with Concrete Core to ensure safe movement between them for future Earthquakes. Resolving it with four flats per floor and two more on the ground floor, giving me the total amount of flats needed.

SITE

H-SHAPE

To start, we elevate a rectangular shape six floors, 3mts each one because of comfort and structural purposes, and elevate the ground floor 4.5mts, for the parking lot which is -1.5mts. bellow ground.

To ensure confort and sun-light ilumination for all the spaces, we substract the original object to form an Hshape with 2 flats each side-floor and one distribution central core for the lifts and the stairs.

SUN + BALCONIES

NEW SPACES

In order to harness the use of sunlight, we substract the corners from the shape but also, to improve the space, we create balconies to ensure a high level of habitability.

To create new experiences and confort inside the building, we extrude de Central Core to create a Rooftop garden and substract the flats 1m in order to create balconies and gardens.

FACADE

RESULT

To avoid the excess of sunlight on the main spaces but also to ensure a high-quality habitabily, we designed a triangular shape facade, who also gives the building a unique but functional look.

As a result, we have a unique Six-floored H-shape flat building which responds not also to the needs of the Damnified, it also gives a new way of life for them by creating new coexistance areas to ensure a safe-healthy relationship between the neighbors.

The Facade l The main Facade of Pacifico 455 was conceived starting with a Golden Section Triangle Pattern repeated Three times vertical / Four times horizontal, completing the entire area. The Pattern, made of steel, instead of providing Structural strenght to the building, it also provides Interior Shade to the flats, creating less warm rooms in order to create a confortable space but also and not less important, provides uniqueness to the building.

Apartment Design

l

As a result after the reunions with the inhabitants, and

interviewing each one of the families we came with a type plan for the Thirty Six apartments, which includes 3 bedrooms, one with the addition of Dressing room (Master Bedroom), One and a half Bathrooms, Living and Dining Room, Kitchen and a Storage/Laundry room next to the apartment and a Terrace for each apartment. The final design results on a 120 m2 apartment, 50% bigger than the original design, by adding new spaces, like a third room or a terrace which not only makes the flat bigger, it provides a new type of environment inside the house but in addition it also improves the life-quality of the inhabitants. Which as a conclusion, leads us to a result that us as architects we have to always search the best option for the client and how we can improve their way of life.

PArallel PAVILION East Side Gallery, MĂźhlenstraĂ&#x;e 60, Berlin 2018

The Parallel Pavilion, a work of ephemeral architecture, a space whose meaning goes beyond the form, a space where situations of the past are recreated in a conceptual way but above all, a space where the user can capture their ideas, this taking up, and as the main concept, the Berlin Wall, a place that today, the remnants of this located in Muhlenstrasse (East Side Gallery) works as a space for artistic expression where anyone can express their thoughts through the graphic.

Site Analysis l Previously mentioned, the Parallel Pavilion is located on the banks of the Spree River in Berlin, in the East Side Gallery, a space that besides being highly touristy, for its historical importance and also with a dark past, today is more than anything a space for recreation and public recreation, and the land selected for the project, today is a space without any use, so as a main idea, it is to retake that space, give it back to the community and give them an extension of East Side Gallery for cultural expression

The Main concept of the project, the Berlin Wall, a place that today, the remnants of this located in Muhlenstrasse (East Side Gallery) works as a space for artistic expression where anyone can express their thoughts through the graphics.

54

Design Process l The Parallel Pavilion design is based on the history of the Berlin Mauer, conceptualizing it with two 6-meter high partition walls, which symbolize the two dividing walls of Federal and Communist Germany. A wooden structure, functions as a roof, that symbolize a staircase on the wall, which allows visibility to the other side, finally Two hanging bridges symbolize the complicated passage between the two sides and finally, a dark central space, difficult to travel by the amount of structures and reduced space, which symbolizes the dangers that people had when crossing the Berlin wall.

UNIONS + MATERIALS

STRUCTURAL SYSTEM

To start, the purpose of the project was only to use two materials, in our case, Wood and Bricks. In order to solve the task we designed nail-less unions (Traditional Japanese joints) for the wood.

At first we use triangular wood structure to ensure strenght, also we added a central Brick wall in order to create an even more strong structure without losing lightness.

REPETITION

MIRRORING + SPACES

With an Structural System perfectly defined, we start copying creating a building from a Pattern it in order to create Space, usable areas for the Pavillion.

Following the concept we mirror and offset the Pattern Building, creating the final shape of the Pavilion. In addition, we add a second floor, create openings between Buildings in order to connect them with light wood bridges.

STAIRS

RESULT

To ensure an access to the second floor, which works as an Exhibition Room and provides circulation around the Pavilion, we add wood stairs on each side of it.

As final we complete the Pavilion adding a wood facade in order provide shade inside of the building and enclosing it. As a result we have a Wood-Brick light structured Pavilion with a simple but revolutionary design which responds to the task but also the concept.

Situation l San Gregorio Atlapulco, following the earthquake of September 19, 2017, was severely damaged, leading to the reconstruction of the site.

Proposal l As a general proposal, the generation of a new public and recreational space is proposed where different types of activities can be carried out and, above all, generate the connection of the other rescue projects arq.

Concept l The Linear Park of San Gregorio Atlapulco, a project whose main design base is the Chinampa-City relationship, achieving it by means of the intersecting diagonal axes trace, which are related by means of the urban trace and the channels that at specific points, the intersections lead to the formation of viewpoints, docks and bridges that allow an approach to the chinampa

Section 3, like the first one, has a multicolored bike path, viewpoints and bridges. But it is worth emphasizing the existence of sprouting sources in the middle of the project (lobbying one of the main axes of the services), but also, because of its considerable lenght in comparison with the other sections, this needed to have Service Areas (Restrooms and a Cafeteria) in order of the other projects and the Air-Theatre.

Description l The public restrooms project is divided into two constructions, separate toilets and sinks, providing greater accessibility and greater hygiene for users. the location of the restrooms corresponds to the fact that it is within the longest section of the linear park as well as corresponding to the need for the adjacent amphitheater. The public restrooms are defined as an enclosed/private space but allowing Natural Light in through the opening in the ceiling. On the other hand, the public sinks are defined as an open space, also including the opening in the ceiling, which following the concept of enclosing private areas and opening free areas.
