The dialogue between void and solid that occurs on an Arab traditional house is related to the usages given to such spaces, which according to their privacy level would be hosted either on a solid or open area, in a higher ground or at street level, creating a dual stratified organization of space and life. Where family and visitors gathers is usually the void area (ryads or courtyards); the solid areas, the built up, hosts the private chambers where residents live, spend their time and take on their activities. This privacy-oriented filter organization is also followed in the vertical axis configuration: the upper floors would host sleeping chambers, making them the most private areas of the house, and the lower levels, related to the street and public realm, is where most of the daytime rooms are placed.

Education City Master Planning Role Design Architect / Coordination Architect Tasks - Coordination with International Offices in the Design Development of the Project. - Design Tasks in relation to Client´s continuous feedback and local Municipality Regulations. - Coordination with visualizers for the creation of renders and visuals for the client, defining the Architectural language of the Master Planning, cantilevering buildings, façade´s composition, podium geometry. Location Doha, Qatar. Year 2013 - 2014 Status In Progress.

Education City is a mixture of higher education campuses, healthcare, research, cultural and leisure amenities. In land use terms with its leisure and sporting facilities it is less of an education campus although in base GFA terms higher education and event space are the dominant areas. Within the current Education City master plan there is not an urban mixed use commercial development that provides a spectrum of residential, commercial office, retail and entertainment amenities. The purpose of the initial phase of the concept master plan was to test fit three master plan options of different land use mixes and density. Eduction City will become a dynamic hub of activity, ensuring that the demands of both the site itself and the large EC master community are met with the relevant supporting land uses and infrastructure.

Al Badia Buildings Role Design Architect / Coordination Architect Tasks - Leading Desing Team for Concept and Schematic Design Phases. - Design Tasks in relation to Client´s continuous feedback and local Municipality Regulations. - Coordination with visualizers for the creation of renders and visuals for the client, defining the Architectural language of the façade composition and building in general. Location Dubai, UAE. Year 2013 - 2014 - 2015 Status In Progress.

Al Badia Towers is a complex of four residential towers, composed by GF+25 storeys, with units varying from one to 4 bedrooms, and penthouses in the top floor. The projects are an extension of the Al Badia complex near Festival City Mall and the Golf Club, which was integrated in the project as a far extension of the landscape and in the visuals from the towers. The project´s façades evolved after several considerations and meetings with the client as a self-shading skin, with balconies that extend further away in the west and upwards direction, to progressively extend a shadow to the building. Ribbons that frame balconies and the curtain wall also extend shadow. The single side loading building strategy was choosen to provide the greater amount of units with views to the Golf and closing the views to the main roads next to the building.

NOOR Bank Headquarters Role Design Architect Tasks - Leading Desing Team for Concept Design - Design Tasks in relation to Client´s continuous feedback and local Municipality Regulations. Location Dubai, UAE. Year 2013 - 2014 - 2015 Status Competition bid.

Standing in the World Trade Center roundabout, Noor Bank headquarters would occupy a most significant position in Dubai´s skyline. The main inspiration for the project was the name itself of the institution, which translates into “light”. The program and the instiutional branding of the firm demanded a design that would speak about the values of the bank: guidance, strength, clear and modest. The lighthouses that illuminate the sea coming ashore represents those values almost exactly. A strong bold structure one can count on when in need, stormy, misty or calm weather, to guide one to a safe situation. The massing was later elaborated according to that idea, creating a strong base that would progressively get thiner and thiner the higher one would go, following also a structural logic, and would be crowned with a huge beam of light to be seen from far distances.

Location Doha, QATAR. Year 2013 Status In Progress.

The Energy City Offices building is a low density offices building in Qatar, Dubai. Energy management became an important part of the project since it was its name, the building would have to represent an idea of efficiency, energy consideration and control. The two skins idea rapidly came to the table and we decided to incorporate a flexible and intelligent skin that would interact with the irradiation of the sun to adapt and improve always the interior comfort. This would be achieved by a diaphragm with incorporated sensors that would measure heat, light intesitiy and interior temperature to open or close accordingly. As an addition, the circular pattern choosen for the skin is more dense where required, in the west façades and south façade.

The complex have in total five more than five islands; one for one of the hotels, and four islands for the other one. The Hotels differentiates themselves from each other in the fact that each of them represents a certain culture or atmosphere: Thai and Moroccan. The first one, is a very low density scattered type hotel where villas and rooms mixes with water and nature constantly as a Thai village, always between water and nature. The Moroccan hotel is massive and ornamented like a palace in the desert, mass has a huge presence creating narrow broken paths and shadow for a fresh urban atmosphere of a Moroccan city.

The objective and desire of the developer was to create a very unique building with great views of the Burj Khalifa area and the Dubai Fountain. Wide and tall glass panels were introduced with a wooden screen for all apartments, protecting them from over radiation and allowing at the same time to get great views. Almost 80% of the apartments have a view to Burj Khalifa thanks to their accommodation within the local regulations; the GFA is as high as 78% over the overall built area, being in the end a very competitive design for the market, with a fine and unique aesthetics.

The project studies the ways and means necessary to reactivate the avenue as nightlife axis and attract spectators and tourists. The section of the street is redesigned, creating a new boulevard with a bicycle lane that protects cyclists and reduces the intensity of street traffic and contamination. Lights are changed to generate an atmosphere of entertainment and leisure, freshness and excitement while still functional, incorporating new and unique data elements to interact with pedestrians and visitors to propose them interesting walking routes, selling tickets for the nearby shows or teaching history of the area. Pavements are changed to create continuity and consistency with the general plan and, finally, abandoned spaces, inactive-spaces or elements as side walls or plots, are reactivated to promote the area with the neighbor’s participation.

Rehabilitation of an old industrial venue, abandoned many years ago and that presents a very deteriorated state. Located within the downtown of the city of Vic, making the whole operation very profitable and socially interesting.

The rehabilitation is proposed with high efficiency strategies in order to reduce the ecological footprint while increasing the lifespan of the buildings. The reactivation is based on a territorial analysis, which reveals the necessity of a greater control and investigation of the meat industry based in the area and the waste it produces. The small street that used to separate the two rows of industrial buildings is appropriated by the project and all communications (horizontal and vertical) are now placed there, leaving the complete surface of the buildings to be used for new purposes. The street is also covered with a light steel structure and an ETFE roof made of cushions with three layers to improve the thermal behavior.

Project for the rehabilitation and general fit out for a small typical Spanish housing unit from the postwar era. The thin and large floor plan was regularly used throughout, with the living quarters in the front and the garden with an orchard and maybe a few animals. This housing type multiplied to complete entire cities. This type of stratification of the house is still respected in the proposal, allowing for living quarters in the front, facing the main street and working quarters in the back, with a small of-fice. The ground floor of the house hosts the reception and waiting area, disguised in a common and minimalistic living room space and small kitchen to attend visits. The garden separating the two areas is a buffer between business and living, a filter of privacy and the moment when the pro-gram exchanges progressively.
