The gray tones and bold bursts of orange, green, and teal create harmony throughout the space and make the interior feel homey and inviting. An abundance of industrial style furniture mixed with a diverse amount of nautical accessories complete and complement the space. The natural and welcoming feel of the space creates a comfortable and relaxed environment for the family to enjoy and live in. A war zone is what could come to mind when walking into The Bunker. The lounge seating throughout the space looks like stacked sandbags. The cofee tables are made to resemble ammunition boxes. Much of the furniture is made to imitate things seen on the battleield. Even the tall cocktail tables look like something out of D-Day with their legs that look like anti tank barriers. It is a place to retreat after a long day at work. Sleek reclaimed wood loors add warmth and create great contrast against the walls of white brick throughout the space. The lighting is just the right softness for comfort and enjoyment. The stage is the focal point and can be easily seen from the 1st loor and the mezzanine. Emphasis is on the identiication of a design problem that could be better met through more responsible design. Students choose a research topic with instructor approval. Students develop a viable and visual solution for the project. Solutions incorporate environmentally sound, cost efective, and responsible design methods to inluence an audience using creative delivery methods.

Clarity Day Spa

It can often be diicult for parents to ind a reliable baby sitter when they want to go out. It is also hard to ind one that can be easily trusted. The news is illed with stories of babysitting gone wrong and it can be understandable that parents feel uneasy about leaving their children with a complete stranger. A spa with a daycare will give parents the option of being able to pamper themselves while their children play down the hall in a safe environment. Clarity is a Day Spa with in house child care. Everyone loves the luxuries of being pampered at a spa but many parents face the challenges of inding reliable childcare and booking a day at the spa at the same time. A spa speciically tailored to the needs of parents will ofer them the peace of mind that their children are in good hands. The children may enjoy the custom built playroom while the parents unwind at the spa. Clarity Day Spa values the relaxation needs of parents and the safety and well being of their children. The goal of Clarity Day Spa is to present parents an easy way to escape and the mission is to ofer parents a retreat for relaxation in the tranquil spa while providing child care for their children in a fun and creative playroom.

ORANGE PLACE INTERIOR DETAILING + SYSTEMS This senior level studio is a study of the materials and fabrication techniques used in the design and construction of interiors and how these details are communicated three-dimensionally and in construction documents. Content includes interior construction detailing of ceilings, walls, looring, and millwork. Project solutions will consider the integration of building technology such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other relevant systems.

In this previously developed space, concepts, principles, and theories of sustainability were considered when design solutions were applied. MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) documents were used to illustrate the design process as well as to support the design intent. The mechanical plan’s main purpose in commercial spaces is to specify the location of the HVAC Supply and Return Difusers and ducts that run through the plenum space. The RCP (Relected Ceiling Plan) is used to point out the placement of sprinkler heads, lighting, switches, exit signage, and emergency lighting. Found in the plan is code compliant exit signage and sprinkler head spacing. The exit signage is visible from any location and shows the direction of travel to reach the nearest exit. The sprinkler heads are spaced at a maximum distance of 15’ to allow proper coverage in case of a ire.

STAY CURIOUS ADVANCED SPECIALTY DESIGN Hotel style, classiication, and themes are examined for making appropriate design decisions as course content centers on the interrelationships between the elements of three-dimensional space planning, material/furnishing selections, contract speciication, and detailing within hospitality environments. Presentations are developed to relect current industry standards for client presentations and sale center displays.

A 4,300 SF restaurant along a major retail corridor sits vacant in Crystal Lake, IL. It once stood as a Chinese food restaurant until it closed its doors in 2013. The parking lot is crumbling and illed with potholes. Weeds peak through the asphalt and trees have overgrown. In the right hands, the space has great potential and is in a soundly demanding region. Crystal lake is a growing community and it would be good to see changes coming to this property. The building was built in 1969 and is in deinite need of a face lift. The building once stood as a restaurant named Mama Rini’s. The property is the perfect candidate for adaptive reuse because it is a vacant building in a growing area with limitless potential. It has full access along a busy stretch of Northwest Highway. The idea for this property is to transform it into a vintage motel with a retail area and a restaurant. The motel would provide a summer work program for teenagers where they would learn job skills and responsibility.

Produced in Revit

The property is ideal for a motel because shopping, recreation, restaurants, and a train station are all only minutes away. Two popular lakes with beaches nearby ofer many tourist activities in the summer including swimming, kayaking, scuba diving, ishing and a wake board park. The surrounding residential areas would make it incredibly easy to ind teenagers to ill job positions at the motel. The idea of taking vacant buildings and transforming them into vintage motels that are ran by the local community can be used around the world. Making it a community operated business with summer programs for teens can lead to giving motels a better reputation. Motels are usually known for the presence of drugs and crime but that can be changed with a new approach to how motels are managed.
