Aleksandra Solińska New Media Arts Faculty
Biography : Since I was 7 years old I became interested in art. I started attending art classes, where I practiced various art techniques. As my interest in art was growing I decided to study Visual Arts at IB High School in Warsaw. At the same time, I developed my skills in other disciplines such as photography, sailing, and skiing. I began working as a ski instructor in a Ski Club called “Potwory, which is one of the biggest clubs in Poland. Therefore I work with children during winter/ summer camps and sports activities, which take place on the weekends in Warsaw. I attended Polish - Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw as I wanted to extend my skills and knowledge in various areas of graphic design. I am most interested in interactive and social design and I hope to expand my knowledge in these fields in the future.

“Racial Discrimination” My task was to think of a poster based on the given text - “Discrimination” described a social research made by Ryan Enos of Harvard. Experiment concerned intergroup contact, between various people which travelled by trains in rush hours in Boston. The idea was to be presented only with graphics - no captions. Therefore I tried to present the problem in simple and complex way, which viewers could easily understand and evaluate. computer graphics A3 2017 2nd year of studies

Narrative Design | Aleksandra Solińska
“ Locomotive” by Jan Brzechwa The aim of the project was to design spreads for a poem “Locomotive” by Jan Brzechwa - Polish poet, who were the author of many poems for children. I came up with the idea of printing black & white old photographs of trains and than painting on them illustrations connected to the poem in order to make it more interesting for the children. Moreover I wrote the words of the poem as children write in primary school and digitalized them. Throughout the project I learned that book design is a complex and long process, where the designer is responsible for the whole visual presentation.

Typeface Design | Aleksandra Solińska
“Kosmos” Typeface and Screen printing During the scrin printing workshops students were ought to design a typeface based on single form from which we created letters and than whole typefaces. After we used them in the posters, which were later screen printed. My typeface “KOSMOS” was created from little triangles, which were placed in various combinations. Therefore it’s heavy and geometric. Later, as we worked in groups, our task was to join each of our posters - to create one for screen print. The structures visible in the poster are various letters from four different typefaces creating interesting forms.

3D Modelling | Aleksandra Solińska
“Service Station Boat Project” During the course at UCL Bartlett School of Architecture in London I designed a service station boat, which aim is to service old or not well maintained boats on London’s Regent’s Canal. Students were suppose to design the area around the part of Regent’s Canal. Therefore gain information about the needs and reqirements in the area, as well as the measurements for the projects. Some of the parts of the project were designed in a computer and later cut in a laser mashine. Other were manufactured by wood or metal cutters. Generally the clients would swim their boats in the station - between the canal bank and the floating part of the station, which than adjusted to the width of the boat. 3D modelling scalled down structure 2016
