from UTOPIA to DYSTOPIA 2021 Exploring threefold identity of the silent city; Transforming marginalized social housing of the former deportation camp of Cité de la Muette Thesis supervisors: Prof. Giancarlo Floridi Authors: Aleksandre Gachechiladze; Tamta Jugashvili View full project >>> https://issuu.com/aleksandregachechiladze/docs/master_thesis_issue

Conceived as an innovative social housing project in the northern banlieue of Paris, The Silent City (Cité de la Muette), braces a threefold identity: a place of history associated with the twentieth-century modernist architecture; a place of memory of Holocaust-era deportation camp; and a place of life for present-day residents. Seemingly distinct, these three elements intertwine and intersect. The thesis is conceived to deal with convoluted stories of architecture, the atrocious past, and everyday life. The principal objective of the thesis is to come up with the solution on how to accommodate multiple narratives and foster dialog between difficult histories that carry critical social and political implications for the present and future.

City of Marrakech represents a mix of cultures where ancient, colonial, and modern worlds coexist. Urban structure of Marrakech is generated by various fabrics: ancient Medina; douars (were most vulnerable population leave); colonial regularly planned city; new neighborhoods; and green villa settlements for the richest. The project explores the possibility of developing spaces in-between different neighborhoods, connecting people of different backgrounds. One of the in-between spaces of Marrakech is selected, developing a masterplan. The approach is simple, instead of imposing something out of context, the project aims to emphasize the potentials of the site and connect everything into one system.

Piazzale Loreto is an important node in Milan, with the iconic Metro system underground. Characterized by high pedestrian and vehicular traffic piazza operates on two levels: over the ground as a roundabout for cars and underground as an extensive metro system and main pedestrian connection. The project addresses the two-faced nature of the piazza, developing auditorium on the underground level. From underground building extends to the ground level with circular shape creating a roundabout. The project introduces a rectangular courtyard, void inside circular roundabout. Morphology of the project, bring natural light underground and vice versa energies of underground are highlighted visually on the piazza.

Honey Reseach Center 2016 Supervisors: Dean Nino Imnadze; Vasil Qobulia Author: Aleksandre Gachechiladze

Located in north-west Georgia (Racha region), the project of honey research center is meant to rediscover georgian agricultural tradition. The morphology of the building aims to raise awareness and question the future of vernacular architecture in Georgia. On a concrete platform, vernacular typologies are placed, creating the layout of a traditional Georgian yard. The building is elevated by fragile columns, suggesting that these typologies have lost their connection with the ground. Seen from the distance, the building looks like a part of a floating village and gives an impression of a distant memory or mirage. The project has been selected as the best project of the year and was exhibited at Georgian Technical University.

A conceptual vision of an underground geological museum, serves as shelter during bad weather, and a café suspended in the canyon, acts as a bridge. Abstract geometric entrance invitesvisitors to interact and study the shape. The shape is inspired by the abstract monolith from Stanley Kubrick’s movie “Space Odyssey” in which, after interacting with the monolith, apes begin acting intellectually. Additionally, the main entrance acts as the tip of an iceberg; as in Sigmund Freud’s theory of the human mind, the entrance represents a transitional step towards accessing the preconscious and unconscious layers of the mind.

This is a Professional Project, created by the architectural company ARTSTUDIO PROJECT. Hired as an architect and urban planner I was the project lead. The plot is located near the capital city of Georgia (Tbilisi) in a small town Saguramo. Project aims to create a residential house harmoniously combined with the relief and nature. In order to maximally introduce landscape and existing trees in the interior, the shape of the building bends around the existing trees in the yeard. Vectors of movement allow a person to appreciate the nature from different angles of the house.
