1. Place of Redemption Site: China,HongKong, Kowloon Walled City (demolished) Individual Work Autumn 2023

The Kowloon Walled City was once a place that made people feel scary when they heard about it. This is a gathering place for gangs and a refuge for stowaways. The streets are full of illegal transactions. The intermittent water and electricity supply also makes the residents here miserable. However, in this seemingly hopeless city, there are still some firm believers and some elderly and elegant artists. . . . . . The Kowloon Walled City was once a military fortress, and over time it spontaneously became a neighborhood. However. The level of chaos in a street is also directly proportional to the way it develops spontaneously. Although this area has become history and has been demolished long ago, I think that maybe a project built on the Kowloon Walled City can improve people's lives. The project starts from three aspects: law, religion, and art, showing visitors a less dark Kowloon Walled City. Tell the story of this historic neighborhood. The architecture also magnifies the bright parts of Kowloon Walled City, which may inf luence those who are willing to degenerate to pursue beauty. A little light in the darkness is enough to guide residents to choose the right path.

2.1 Volcano Shelter Site: Spain, Canary Islands, La Palma Individual Work Winter 2022 Viruses, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions... These disasters have always threatened humanity, and even our very homes, the places we depend on for survival, can be destroyed by them. Architecture is designed for human existence, but when we face these threats, can buildings protect us from them? The project is located on the island of La Palma, Spain, which has active volcanoes, a n d s e ve ra l i s l a n d s i n t h e C a n a r y archipelago also have active volcanoes. In special circumstances, this could lead to tsunamis. In such a harsh environment, the residents of Spain won't abandon their homes; they've chosen to stay with their families and their homeland. This shelter provides protection for the residents here, and even for residents of other Canary Islands, if necessary. After many years of development, this massive structure is even self-sustaining. After the disaster ends, humanity will once again show its valuable spirit – resilience. People will start anew, leaving this place to begin a new life, and this shelter symbolizes both not giving up and rebirth. Meanwhile, 1.1 and 1.2 are two connected projects, and 1.2 aims to showcase humanity's longing for romance and a more beautiful life after a disaster.

Gallery

The lab is primarily for those scientists. It is used to research topics related to cultivation, energy, etc. in the event of a possible catastrophe.

A gallery where travellers or residents can enjoy the spirit of the place. Together with the special skylight, the presence of the gallery itself is a work of art in the building.

Church

The central church is the most crucial part and the church is located in the centre of the integrated building. In addition, space is provided for congregations with strong faith.

Church Garden Lab Church ProvThe main entrance is designed for the residents of the island. Viewing the whole building from the perspective of the entrance shows a fortress-like structure. The building provides a plan for the energy reserves of the shelter, a plan for the planting as well as a number of meditation spaces and a chapel to assist in the psychological healing of the inhabitants. The role of the garden is in the study of crops. At the same time the building is equipped with laboratories for the study of crops. Secondly, post-disaster reconstruction is also a factor we need to consider. Cultivating some of the crops in the garden can be used later. At the same time, people need to live in a natural environment and these plants help to keep the whole shelter from being too cold. Among other things, through my research into the history of the island of La Palma, I discovered that the majority of its inhabitants are predominantly Christian. So the style of the whole church will tend to be Christian and some of the services will be held in it. In extreme cases, these psychological and spiritual support can reduce people's sense of panic.

2.2 Bath Paradise Site: Spain, Canary Islands, La Palma Individual Work Summer 2023

"Paradise" is the key to the project. The goal of the project is to create a beach on the island of La Palma after the disaster. After the volcanic eruption in 2019, people needed to lift their spirits from sadness. Research began with the emotions of different target groups to create different atmospheres for them. These different atmospheres form different spaces within the architecture, emphasizing the experience of people entering this area and the island. The site is located in the North Atlantic, where there are many unique whales nearby. Whales symbolize freedom and paradise. These "water"-related activities are displayed on these massive animals. The project also primarily uses an interplay of outdoor and indoor spaces. Lightweight materials like ETFE are used to reduce the heaviness of materials, providing a relaxed atmosphere as much as possible. To d ay, wh a t we n e e d i s n o l o n ge r traditional bathing facilities, as they are everywhere. Uniform forms no longer generate anticipation. Therefore, this project aims to redefine the "bathing area" and combine it with the site and human emotions to create a temporary paradise world.

3. Shengshan Heart Site: China,Zhejiang Province, Zhoushan, Shengsi Islands,Houtou Wan Individual Work Summer 2022

Shengsi Islands are a tourist attraction, a n d p e o p l e a re o f te n a tt ra c te d by the beautiful scenery and sky here. However, there is a small village on the northernmost Shengshan Island called Houtouwan. The houses here are covered with moss, and the once bustling village is now uninhabited. This place has been abandoned by people. When I saw the huge contradiction between the desolation here and the beauty of the island, I wanted to change the status quo. Hou Touwan has lost power and water, and former residents of the village had to leave because of complicated road conditions. On this island, "energy" has become the most important issue. Therefore, I plan to use the open space here to build a huge research institute, provide tours for tourists at the same time, rebuild the surrounding houses, and plan an energy station for the island, a heart of Shengshan that can revitalize Houtou Wan.

Gouqi GouqiIsland Island & & Shengshan Shengshan Island Island

Weather

Houtou Wan Farm By transforming the original residential buildings around the site and developing planting and farmland

transmission pipeline Energy Road Flat ground

Wind power station The wind power station is also based on the original residence. Shengshan Island has strong northeasterly winds. The wind energy will eventually be concentrated in the central laboratory.

Algae plant power generation facility Algae power generation is a new energy research and development method, and it is also the main new energy method developed at the site. For Houtou Bay, energy is the most important issue that needs to be solved.

Site road Hou Tou Wan has a high terrain difference, so more roads need to be built to connect different energy stations.

Ranch planning There are many open spots in Houtou Bay for the development of animal husbandry, which has already been achieved in the southwestern part of the island

Facilities

Shengshan Heart

Process

Tramcar Due to the undulating mountainous terrain, the transport of energy became a huge problem, so part of the proposed track was laid at the site to assist in transporting raw materials.

Construct temporary building Stage 1 needs to set the stage for the construction of the project. Temporary buildings and warehouses are necessary.

Energy Pipe Only the main facilities such as laboratories, control rooms, etc. will be present in the plant. Pipelines are widely laid as an important means of transporting energy.

Transport material Algae power generation

Assembly of the units needed for the wind power system begins after they are transported to the island.

Algae plant power generation as a second new energy source will be widely used in this region. Each renovated hut is equipped with algae power generation facilities.

Crane The site utilised mainly containerised buildings in the earliest stages, this was due to the fact that Houtou Wan is a long way from the booming areas of the island and the temporary buildings helped the construction to get underway.

Energy storage tanks The storage facility at the terminal could be the medium between the transport vessel and the energy control centre. These storage facilities are mainly used to store gas or liquid energy sources.

Build energy system While wind power systems and algae power systems are being created, energy reserve systems should be considered, including transport systems.

Shengshan Heart The Shengshan heart is intended to achieve a state of zero energy consumption. However, in the initial stage it requires energy input and transport, and later on the area becomes a huge factory by connecting together the already renovated houses in the surrounding area. This factory is shown in the previous Master Plan. The energy centre is expected to have a positive impact on the energy system of the whole island for many years to come.

Develop new energy Multi-faceted remodelling of the house and continually expanding the scale outwards.

Due to the change of finalmodel material. Hard materials such as wood panels cannot be fixed with pins for attachment points

The direct friction of the board was harder to slide and the neglect of the material properties resulted in the model not being fully expanded.

After adjusting the model several times before, it was found that the two sliders on the long side were too little displaced by the expansion.

Increasing the length of the slide causes the bend angle to become a right angle that cannot be slid.

Solution

The material problem is solved by replacing the needle with the device shown above.

The problem of sliding is solved by replacing the wooden board with a smooth acrylic board with less friction.

Cut the slideway boundary and the length of the slideway to extend the sliding length of the slide bar.

After recalculating the displacement distances and angles, the final model is obtained by customising the sliding bar to the corresponding length and combining it with the previous problem.
