Yemek provides a casual and community based dining experience. The design is inspired by Capadocia’s topographic surroundings. The lower level represents Cappadocia’s mountainous terrain and the mezzanine level has an open concept giving it an airinessfeel inspired of the idea of being in a hot airballon. The mezzanine level celebrates Cappadocia’s turkish food by having cooking classes, which integrates the residents into the community. The aroma of the food being cooked on the upper level travels throughout the space. The space is divided with the idea of shades and light based on the natural light that comes in. The light area representing the airiness of being in a hot air balloon and the area under the mezzanine is darker, which representing the interior of the caves.

thyme for change mixed-use

THYME FOR CHANGE, located in the heart of the art and design district, also known as Beaconsfield Village, a neighborhood that is undergoing a transition of gentrification. This organization embraces the new, while also keeping to Beaconsfield’s heritage and culture. Thyme: represents the community kitchen, which has a “Meal on Wheels” program, delivering meals to people suffering from mental illness or loss of autonomy, using food as a vehicle for bridging the gap of social and economic isolation between generations and culture. It engages people of different generations to work and cook together to better the community. Change: represents the theater, its goal of fostering the spread of unbiased news and knowledge. It aims to provide a platform for local artists, visionaries and students, so their community can gain a better understanding of the biggest issues facing our world, and a desire to help create a better future. Therefore, this theater space provides people with the tools and stage to foster these types of conversations and films. Central to this goal is a focus on reshaping the mind’s view of the world, and cause it to pass on the idea to others in their community.
